Good heavens. so many folks complaining about the young lad's singing abilities. Sure, not perfect, but if I was singing with Karen, I wouldn't want anyone to compare me with her. She's beautiful. But what a joy and honor it would be to sing with her. I can see that in Sorren's face. I'd be darn happy to be there no matter what anyone said about me. Beautiful song. Beautiful people.

Thank you for keeping Andy's music alive. Andy is my first cousin on my mum's side. We grew up together in the same wee street in old Rattray /Blairgowrie. I and my family miss him terribly. Thanks again for helping keep his memory alive. X 💜.

Karen is just brilliant - even better when she sings in Gaelic. Sorren's voice definately compliments the song, they sound great together ! The music is just what Scots music is all about - great musicians, excellent vocalists, and I'm not just saying that because I'm a proud member of the MacLean clan !!!!!

Beautiful harmonies.... his eyes are piercing and I love the breath he exhales after singing his verse. I can see him singing about his love. She is a masterpiece of vocal ability. I found her watching a live version of Darrell Scott’s you’ll never leave Harlan alive. I love finding beautiful new voices!! ❤️

A most poignant, heartbreaking song -- "If time was a thing man could buy/ All the money that I have in store/ I would give for one day by your side/ In the valley of Strathmore". Such yearning. Such truth. Both singers capture the sorrow and depth of the song. Sorren MacLean creates the reality of the bereft man who longs for what has been lost. I first heard this song sung by Silly Wizard, a terrific version. I didn't know Andy Stewart wrote it. The song itself is timeless. Thank you, Karen Matheson and Sorren MacLean, for this gentle, lovely version, so evocative! And thank you, tomtscotland, for sharing this with us on KZfaq.

Thank You Thank You Thank You, I saw this show, it was the best Hogmanay show I've ever seen, on BBC Alba, and I have tried to contact BBC to get a copy of this tape, thank you thank you, thank you, it was a great great show, and BBC Alba is a great little broad caster, and this is the best part of the show

I don't know where Sorren's knockers are coming from. My ear for music is pretty good and I think that this perfomance is a good rendition of this song. Sorren has a Mull accent but we all have our own differend vocal tones. Having spent a couple of happy Summer hols in Tobermory in the late 60's I like the accent!

Karen seems uneasy during the opening lines but at 0:47 realises that this really is going to work. And, boy does it work! The pairing of those two to sing this song was inspired.

To add my two cent's worth to this discussion, I agree his voice doesn't sound very clear and he sounds nervous most of the time, but isn't that natural when you don't seem to have much stage experience? At his age (something around 20 when this was taken, I guess), you don't usually have much of that. Comparing him to Karen doesn't make much sense, I think. I think what matters is that he IS up there singing with Karen, who does good in supporting the young generation of folk musicians.

I don't know about technical perfection but I know Sorren has a good voice. You pointless detractors seem determined that he never gain confidence and I think you should back off and trust in Karen's judgement in choosing him.

Not the best singing I've ever heard but I don't really know the young lad's usual work. Maybe it was the wrong song for him or maybe he was just having an off day - but what is certain is that he was going to be compared to Karen, and there are few enough singers around who could cope with that. At least he tried, and the more he does that the better he'll become. Kudos.

The guy really isn't very good but luckily Karen is very very good and together they do sound nice. Ps age has little to do with the guy's singing other than perhaps he does sound like with another year or so of singing lessons he could improve. Lots of people on stages today for whom there is no such hope. ;)

@@ronaldstoessell3338 Well, that comment was made 12 years ago... But, you know what? I stand by it. The kid's vocals were really inappropriate for the genre, he was all over the place, he was flat, and he had absolutely no breath support. If he were singing electro-pop in some boy band, it wouldn't be very noticeable, but next to Karen Matheson, he's comically out of his depth. Now, I will say, I did look up some of his more recent work, and it appears he's improved over the years, so good for him.
