I heard this song for the first time when I was 16, ever since it’s been with me. Even if a mature man speaks his mind through those words, back then I felt the lyrics were also mine, as I was missing something important and I wished to be somewhere else. Later I happened to listen Phil Cunningham’s compositions and even went to one of his wonderful concerts alongside Aly Bain. But it is only recently that I have learnt that both Phil and his brother Johnny were part of Silly Wizard and then I have heard about Johnny’s death in 2003. Moreover, I have come to enjoy and love Andy M. Stewart’s voice and his overall style of singing and stage presence. Sad as I was for Johnny’s loss not long ago I learned about Andy’s illness and passing away in 2015. And I was astonished when I read that he was the composer of this song, which I believed a much older piece of tradicional music. It’s weird how Silly Wizard and these three genious of music have always been around, somehow, connecting with something deep in me, putting the words and even playing a sort of living soundtrack for plenty of emotions and memories till this day. I can only thank them. Magic

I own everything that Silly Wizard ever recorded either on vinyl or CD. I never heard anything better than Andy M. Stewart and the Cunninghams. When Johnny lived in New Bedford, MA, I lived in the next door--Fall River (a sewer if there ever was one) attended Summerfest, where I saw Johnny not long before he died. He was wonderful. I introduced myself to him and we shook hands. Phil was there too. What a night!
