The fact that people immediately go to veneers rather than starting with braces, whitening treatments, crowns, etc. is actually scary. A good dentist would do their best to preserve your natural teeth as much as possible - if your “dentist” immediately jumps into veneers, that is a HUGE red flag!!!!
@Juunanagou17

As someone who has, except for 2 teeth, nothing but crowns (due to catastrophic teeth damage), let me tell you: Crowns are NOT an alternative to veneers. They are pretty much the final option to save a tooth (after a root canal procedure; I am aware crowns can also be put on still living teeth, if too much damage has happened to them; I have both variants). The only thing after that, are implants, iirc (or a missing tooth, obviously xD). Veneers (for the very most part) are a vanity project, not a fix for rotten teeth (quite the opposite

As a dentist - that is not always viable for people who don’t have the money for it. 4 composite veneers to mask the 4 anterior teeth is not cheap, but it is an alternative to an ideal treatment path (braces and whitening) AND EVEN THEN some orthodontists will still correct people’s teeth with composite bonding after that anyways! 😊

@@kinte1870to you. For those of us who are poor it isnt. especially when you have health insurance, car insurance, rent, utilities, food, gas, etc. it adds up and you have to make choices, and dental is usually the first 'luxury' to go. That said, look for low income dental offices. They do work without insurance and each visit is calculated by your annual income, the same price regardless of what is done. They wont do oral surgery (impacted teeth) or veneers but they will extract teeth, fill cavities and do cleanings for very reasonable prices!

Most of the examples used aren’t even proper veneers either. They’re full cover caps/ crowns. Veneers done by ACTUAL licensed dental professionals are done by shaving down only small amounts off the sides so there’s a bit of space. Teeth shaven to almost spikes are for crowns. Crowns are usually only used when you have one or 2 chipped or damaged teeth. Not 7-10!!

Even correct done veneers has to be replaced after 15 or 20 years. Imagine when you do this as a young person. You will pay insane amount of money 3 or 4 times to keep your teeth. Instead you could go just for bleaching and correct some gaps with composition by a real dentist. You ceep your own teeth, have a good cosmetic result and pay much less. A dentist will clean your teeth first and fix any issues before the bleaching.

I'll never forget my neighbor pulled 28 perfectly healthy teeth to get implants, it was brutal. I was shocked, and tried to talk her out of it, but she'd already pulled 60k out of her retirement. She went with a reputable dentist but he outsourced the porcelain molds and she needed 3 sets until they got the right fit. I took care of her for 8 days, freezing tea bags for her to hold the hémorraging at bay. All because she wanted a cookie cutter smile. Her original teeth were lovely. I didn't see any issue. Wild.

It's odd, I didn't realize until you inquired how lopsided our friendship had become. I'm the one who gets asked for favors and making effort, which is fine, some friendships are a little lopsided. But I know she was taken aback at how difficult, and how much effort, her perfect porcelain smile ended up requiring. I know she has to brush and floss her implant pegs religiously to avoid bone infection, and hers were done legitimately, by a reputable dentist specializing in implant dentistry.

Like dentists say, getting veneers is a last, last, LAST resort procedure. Take care of what you have first and if there’s damage that is irreversible, then talk to your dentist about it and see if they can do something about it. But veneers should be a well thought out, planned for ahead, and heavily researched medical procedure.

I work for Prosthodontists(dental specialists). I see veneer cases quite often, and the bill is hefty. I always joke around with one of the doctors about how I want some veneers too. He looked my square in my eye and told me not to do it. Once you have them done, they require much more maintenance than your natural teeth. At least twice a week, a patient comes in to have one of theirs re-cemented because it popped off while they were out. Veneers are strictly for aesthetics. They are not a necessity. I could get them done for free but I won’t now.

As the dentist in the video stated; a healthy smile is what’s important. If you have the funds for cosmetic dentistry and the upkeep required then by all means. However 10-20k veneers in a mouth full of cavities, gingivitis and untreated root canals is dangerous and incredibly stupid. Why not take that same money and have the necessary work done instead. You’re actually saving money in the future. When I was growing up we had fluoride, laid our clothes out for school the night before, had our bath, parents made sure we brushed and flossed every morning and night. We took flintstone vitamins and saw a dentist every 6 months. I’m 38, not one cavity, pearly whites, still see a dentist and get complimented every visit on my fantastic oral hygiene. It’s not that difficult y’all just lazy and nasty! Put y’all mouth on any and everything. Yuck.😖

Veneers are not "bad," but they ARE very SERIOUS and should NOT be casually recommended. I have veneers on my front 4 upper teeth. When I was a kid, I was shoved into concrete and these teeth were shattered. An infected pocket formed high in the roots, I got root canals there. Over time, the teeth became literally gray as they slowly died. I did not smile or openly laugh for years due to shame. It might not seem important, not being able to show the teeth. But this crippled my life. I had these teeth shaved down for veneers that match the rest of my otherwise healthy/white teeth. When I saw them, I cried with joy. Since then, I've laughed louder and more often, more than I ever had my whole life. Yes, I know these are risky and temporary. But it requires less tooth removal than a crown, and none of these are permanent answers. So yes, veneers are ABSOLUTELY a GOOD option for those who must face this. But I cannot imagine getting veneers just to "maximize" one's appearance when their teeth are fine or otherwise able to be improved with whitening, hygiene, or braces. That's like giving your teeth away. That's BONE!

The office that did Winter’s veneers doesn’t even have an actual dentist on staff. They’re all “veneer techs”, which is another thing y’all need be careful of because they’re ruining people’s lives for a quick bag. They do a two-day course and assume they know everything there is to know about teeth.

I went to a dentist in the US for my top row only .. wealthy area, "reputable" dentist and paid $20k and my teeth are irreparably damaged. I was told there were *no* risks and that the things I read online only happen in other countries. Well $100k and a year of pain later my teeth are still in the process of being corrected. Dentists need to explicitly state the risks of procedures, I would have *never* done it had I known even 1% of my journey would happen to me!!

What's mad is with how viral this "niche" is, everyone's seeing content of dentists and just people with common sense in general, warning against this procedure. Yet some people just decide to go ahead and do it. It's really hard to feel bad for them because 1) if you looked up veneer techs, the algorithm would've done its thing to show you warning content, 2) veneers are almost purely cosmetic and rarely a necessity; at least braces have a use in correcting bites and improving quality of life and 3) it's crazy that people think dentistry without a license isn't a red flag. I feel like this is just plain common knowledge yet so many are unaware or just don't care

my best friend loves her veneers, but she was waiting through 4 years of orthodontics before she got them and went to an actual doctor for them. she has a condition called microdontia in her entire mouth (tiny teeth) and porcelain veneers was about the only fix for her teeth. most of y'all DO NOT need veneers, much less black market ones, and there are less costly and safer ways to get a better smile, such as whitening and adult orthodontics. veneers are expensive for a reason, watch videos of real dentists doing them and you'll see they are actual art and extremely labor intensive.

My friend went through two sets of braces and still is insisting on veneers. Sadly, she also has had bbl surgery twice so I know she’s suffering from some form of body dysmorphia at this point. My sister broke one of my teeth when we were kids. I had to get a fake tooth like a crown. It was slightly gray. Years later, it was done over and looked way better. The next issue was that it became infected and the whole tooth had to be removed. The dentist wanted me to get a bridge, but I opted for an implant because my mom had a bridge and it has caused her many issues recently. I don't play with my teeth 😅

There are even places people can go to for free or low cost dental work. Most importantly people don’t take care their teeth. You can’t not floss and brush your teeth and expect them to be healthy. How are you vain enough to get veneers but not vain enough to practice proper oral hygiene…

I’m happy my parents forced me to get braces and bleached my teeth after. I totally understand people wanting to have a pearly white smile. I just wish people went to healthy way that would be more beneficial, which is going to the dentist regularly and possibly paying for braces. If you have alignment issues obviously not everybody has insurance to cover the dentist, but I’m pretty sure that you can go to these dental schools to get your teeth, looked at but you can’t just cover up your teeth and hope for the best!

5 years ago, I broke one of my front teeth during a fall. The dentist suggested veneers on my two front teeth. This was a real dentist. 5 years later, I'm on the second set of porcelain veneers and have had nothing but trouble with them. I never recommended veneers. In the next 5 years, I'll probably lose the little bit of tooth is left on those two and end up with a partial plate.

Anyone who does this has never had real tooth pain. It will change your life in a heartbeat. I have had broken bones that hurt less. I have generically bad teeth, I brush 3 times a day, floss three times a day. I have had to spend about 8g on my teeth so far just to keep my teeth. There is literally nothing better under the sun then the teeth you naturally have. Even fillings and crowns have a lifespan. This will be the greatest regret of their lives trust me. In reality your oral hygiene has to increase about 3 degrees once you have those veneers. Even still the chances on bacteria entering at the margins on one of those teeth or more then likely a bunch is very high. Many times at that point the only option is to pull that tooth and get an implant or more then likely live without those teeth. Not only that some of those teeth are so shaved down that now when that cavity starts it's going to hit that root even faster and let me tell you when it does that is going to be life changing. The pain that one little tooth with an abscess can give you will blow your mind. We're talking 10-10 pain.
