Andrea will discuss how the current social, political, and economic crisis in her country is affecting both friends and family on a personal level. People are fleeing by the millions, to leave behind a country plagued of hunger, corruption, economic insecurity, and crime. Many refer to this as a diaspora- when a country’s citizens are forced to leave their home country.
Her aim is to inspire you to not be afraid to leave everything behind in order to move forward. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Why is there so much violence in Venezuela?

I’ve watched dozens of these videos of the tragedy in Venezuela. I have yet to see one which describes the WHY of Chavez failures. His advocation of the theft of personal property, be it corporate or individual, is what killed the economy and absolutely eviscerated investment. Venezuela’s vast oil reserves during the oil spike of 2001-2008 is the only reason it took 10 yrs for socialism to fail there vs 5 yrs. Personal property rights are the cornerstone of free society. Why should I work hard if all you’re going to do in the end is take my stuff? Socialism is indentured servitude. Equality of outcome is an illusion perpetuated by socialist zealots who have some sort of confused version of utopia playing in their head. Socialism is dead on arrival.

Listen I get your point, if were talking the theft of personal property rights that's going to be along the lines of communism, not socialism.

Same thing. The dictionary defines communism as all public- owned means of production, and socialism as community-owned. Very little difference. Semantics.

You're confusing socialism with social democracy, like Europe or Canada.

No, socialists do not believe in getting rid of personal property rights. It is one of the main differences between socialism and communism.

If socialism/communism even ALONE, can explain away the current crisis in Venezuela, then the world have to find a reason why & how China survived during Mao's regime (with its 1 billion population). And do note China only embraced its hybrid state- regulated capitalism starting from Deng Xio Peng's reign in the 70s. So it follows that socialism ALONE cant account for the different outcomes in Mao's reign in China vs Maduro's reign in Venezuela

Why are independent reporters going there not finding any of those problems reported? Except for maybe shortage on a few items due to USA's sanctions.

You lived in a socialist paradise right? you dont need products from capitalist country like US right? Sanctions just saying we are not trading with you anymore. Your govt have run out of money to take from people that creates wealth for your country and like a baby whining your govt blame other countries for the situation.
