This is a wonderful epi! Our thrift stores here, even in the small desert town that I live in, have huge selections of ceramic/glazed pottery etc. type of dishes here for palettes. The rectangular bathroom vanity trays are great, small white delicate little coffee/tea saucers. I'm looking for a deviled egg plate with their little wells for the eggs and in the center a spot for some condiment of some sort one could use for mixing.... just perfect for an assortment of tube paints squeezed out. As usual another lovely painting! Thank you, Diane

Yes, I've got a couple of the deviled egg trays, and I love them! They're perfect for mixing. You can get a large puddle of your mix, and it stays in the well so it doesn't get contaminated. ❤ The plates or a tray are great for more free style mixing. 😊❤

Bought a set of smaller plates that were used by an airline. Been using them for years. Once again you transformed a lovely palette of colors into a lovely loose painting. You are not afraid to keep adding lines both white ten black to follow your impulses or eye instincts…whatever you want to call it…you go for it because you enjoy the freedom to see what happens. Love that!!!❤

@@DianeAntoneStudio I have been painting with my little airline plates for 30 years. I don’t think I have ever totally cleaned off old paint but use it mixing it in with fresh squeezes from my tubes.

My drawing really improved after I started watching Danny Gregory. I love the painting, and I use white plates as well, square ones from the Dollar Store, although they don't have much for a dollar anymore.

I use Daniel Smith sticks and I love them. They are perfect for traveling, you can put the in half pans also. I go to the Dollar Tree and my plate pallets for a $1.25.

I love it when you show us something that I'd been thinking of doing myself. That is, the plate idea with kuretake paint pans. I've been using vintage glass luncheon plates, the kind with the little place to hold a glass coffee/punch cup. I place 6-7 paint pans down one side of the rectangular plate and mix in the other half. It's very pretty, but not as roomy as the larger dinner plate, and since it's clear glass, the colors aren't as easy to appreciate as they would be on a white surface. Love the finished painting today! Quite pretty! Thank you!

Yes, I've been buying ceramic and porcelain dish ware of various sorts from discount stores (like TJ Maxx in the US) to use as mixing and painting palettes for years. Vintage shops and tag sales are also good sources.

That’s interesting. Here in France pâté is often sold in very nice earthenware dishes which are worth more than the food inside them!

Thank you for another relaxing painting time 🙂When you added the red to the mauve (purple-ish) flowers it reminded me of the Red Hat Ladies here in America. Groups of women gathered for lunch or brunch wearing their red and purple outfits with the huge red hats. Hence the name... Of course that was a thing several years ago. Some of those watching your channel may have to look that up! Interesting what comes to my mind when I see certain colors combined. Lol Many blessings to you!

At first, I got these Russian watercolors from my art class, then, I wanted to just get comfortable mixing on the palette, so I did what you are doing, things got muddy, so such joy just with primary colors! Have yet to use the whole set of my white dinner plate for specific palettes. I store it between the books on my shelf, quite easy to grab. I keep my brushes next to my bed wuth my water in a jar. Fun, fun!

Hi Diane! Coincidentally, I recently got some ceramic plates for watercolor mixing, but you showed the best method of putting the paint on the edges of the plate and using the center to do the mixing. The pets keep you busy ... so do ours...Emily the Christmas kitty just got into my art supplies...good thing I emptied the water out of my jars when I cleaned up! 😐 Hope your sick kitty gets well soon!

I use a $1 store plate instead of sacrificing 1 of my dinner plates. It's more cost effective for me but sometimes it can be a pain bc the colors can run together and I hate when my colors touch or mix unless I want them to. Idk it's a me problem lol. Thanks for all of your videos they are greatly appreciated and I enjoy your stories and comments. It makes my day. Have a wonderful day!

The flat plate system is just one of many options, most of which I use depending on the need of a particular painting, my mood, the paints I’m using etc etc. It’s a matter of personal taste.

I upcycle fondue plates from the thrift shop as palettes. They have 4/5 divisions (for meat, bread, veggies, etc) which work perfect for pure colours. There is also a bigger area that is ideal for mixing. These plates are in every theift store and even second hand ebay (sets of 5 or 6 for 15€!) These are usually ceramic ir porcelain. At those prices you often get just ONE art palette. Let's go back to that 70s classic, fondue, and repurpose the plates for art! 😊

I love improvising too so I used the bottom plastic tray from a store bought coffee cake because it has all of the little ‘wells’ I needed! I could show you but didn’t know if you allow photos in this feed?
