Probably because we are animals and tribal in nature . Add to that today’s power structure and the need for resources and the fight over ideals and religion and it doesn’t seem it will stop anytime soon. I don’t have the numbers in front of me but the war in Ukraine and the one in Gaza has probably produced more casualties then Iraq and Afghanistan put together. Feels like we’re headed for something big and terrible.

I realise that this is a film that is exploring the emotions and experiences of the Vietnam War, could be any war in reality, however, if your going to have combat scenes in it then try and be realistic, @ 15:31 why would you be just loading up your men onto trucks, especially the wounded and then abandon the trucks to drag the wounded across the river to the same place as the mortar fire was coming from, wouldn’t it be best to get the M60s to lay down suppressing fire, the men with the small RPG type weapons to fire directly upon the mortars, finish loading the wounded and the rest of the soldiers, the riflemen then lay down suppressing fire whilst M60 operators withdraw to the vehicles and then get the foxtrot out of there, I’m no infantryman let alone an infantry commander but I would have thought that getting the wounded out was the priority. I know the infantry are trained to run towards the fight but not when they are supposed to be on a rescue mission and dragging the very men you are supposed to rescue straight back into the enemy territory. @ 33:29 I can’t believe that the Marines that discovered that the dead mortar crews were women would have reacted the way they did, it was common knowledge that the V.C had women in combat roles and the Marines would probably have encountered them in combat before, so why all the “gnashing, wailing and puking 🤮” they were trying to kill the Marines and were the enemy, I know that back then the “sensibilities” of women in combat was very much against it, but that didn’t bother the V.C or the women who did see combat, sorry but it would not have happened like that, but that is just my opinion. I am really intrigued by this film, but the storyline is a bit wobbly, if “Doc” and fellow POWs were abandoned by the NVA then surely all they had to do was go to the nearest friendly consulate or embassy and get the ball rolling to get them repatriated, I don’t understand why Doc didn’t, I understand that the psychological damage was probably already done but surely that would have driven him and the others to get home. @ 44:25 The Captain tells his radio operator to call for an “immediate evacuation” and that the LZ was “over there” indicating off to his right, did he forget that they had just “stormed the beaches” from landing craft, they could have easily come back in so that they could re-embark, as for the LZ the pilots/crews were not going to land “over there” not that close to the enemy that they could exchange pleasantries with the enemy, even offer them tea and biscuits, the Evac chopper crews were very brave but not stupid.
