In this video I show the new Vevor stainless steel 6KG smelting furnace kit. I do a review and then show the furnace being used to melt brass. I also show how the furnace can be used safely with a different set of tongs to lift the graphite crucible. I am new to this excellent hobby and look foward to learning all about it. SEE THE LINKS FOR THIS FURNACE BELOW:-

G'day Steve. I've watched others using larger furnaces for cast iron, aluminium moulds etc. I am very impressed on this demo, using a 9kg gas bottle or whatever. Very compact and portable as you have shown. Excellent video, keep up the good work.

That is an excellent bit of kit, and at a reasonable price. This is going to open up all sorts of possibilities in your workshop. I can see some great videos coming up. Good luck with it all Steve. Cheers Nobby

Hi Yes, that was what I was thinking of. There are several others doing this on KZfaq. It looks very interesting. I will probably have a go at making a mold to produce small lengths of bar sometime.

Looks good value for the money Steve, don't know why it's called a smelting furnace as it's a melting furnace as smelting is producing metal from the ore, I built my 1st furnace 50 odd yrs ago with my late Dad, [& burnt a few out along the way] [no internet then ! I]did 100s of brass signs for a local wrought iron firm, brass not the easiest of metals to cast, bronze being easier, you will need a separate crucible if your going to cast alloy as well, although & built a propane furnace I still use coke & forced air as it's really quiet & we usually have a couple of tons in for the Rayburn cooker!! I can cast Iron with it. good luck with your casting. Graham.

Hi, Yes, it's all new to me. I think they have got the maximum temperatures wrong as well, according to other comments. I may not have the time to get into this kind of thing much as I have so many other projects. Also, it's hard to get hold of the scrap metal now and the local recycling centres are charging way too much. I may just use it as a forge instead. I much prefer lathe work anyway.

@@SteveJordan Hi Steve, after 50 odd yrs of casting, people get to know you & bring you alloy & brass round if your a squirrel like me, i've built up quite a collection, as a footnote a lovely lady 2 doors down had all new doors fitted & gave me a stack of all her old brass door handles & other fittings so as a surprise I made a nice pattern for a house plaque & told her "I've brought some of your handles back I don't want them" her face was priceless when I presented her with the plaque, I'm a great believer in karma, you do a good turn for someone & it always comes back to you, keep up the videos & good luck with the furnace. Graham.

The only reviews for this exact model on Amazon are all terrible. Every review for every model of these is overwhelmingly bad. How many times have you used yours so far?

I've only just got into it. It seemed to work great, but then I haven't seen what it's like over time. If it turns out to be poorly made or something, I would then say when I find out. I have done this in the past, where I bought something, and then it turns out to be rubbish. I will take a look at the reviews and see what people are saying. Regards Steve

HAHAHAh 2700F is 1482 C° which is enough to melt steel -on propane(people use diesel for that ,just propane cant reach that high unless you add pure oxygen from bottle) ? Good luck . . . Typical number inflation . . . Reality is be happy if you get close to 1200C°.

If you try melting steel in that graphite crucible you'll end up with cast iron and an eroded crucible when the iron in the steel eats up the carbon in the graphite. Still wanting a crucible I can use to remelt steel in w/ a hobby furnace, whether one like this or a mag induction one, I don't care...
