Hi Steve. I have stripped down a dc motor off of a wobble machine. I can get the anti vibration washers back between the housing and bearing. Ant ideas?

Easy to make? I'm sure everyone has a metal drilling lathe in their garage and the other equipment you are using. What a joke, LOL!

The DLM is too weak to run a treadmill motor properly. It works, but it hums and is only good for light duty sanders or similar projects, not anything that requires much force. You can pop it open and turn the potentiometer up to get closer to the listed values, but it's not going to be the same as the original treadmill guts unfortunately. I never bothered, because I wanted to try the original power supply to see what the difference was, and it was huge! I really couldn't see that DLM box working much better because of it's physical size alone. So I'll use it for something else down the road I'm sure... But it does work for sure, just depends on what you want to use it for. I used mine on an old beast of a lathe with double cone pulleys and a leather flat belt, and the DLM was humming and would only make that motor run on there at about 20% compared to hooking it up using the original power supply and controls for the treadmill. The original made no overworking and struggling humming sounds at all, and it spun that thing way faster than it was supposed to spin I'm pretty sure! Both struggled with the initial starting and spinning, but that lathe is over 100 years old and HUGE, which had a big 220v motor on it, but I can't read and into off of it unfortunatly, and I can't even find any info online about it... Anyway, I just wanted to let people know that I tried the DLM box from the video, and it worked, but only at a fraction of what the original treadmill could do with that 2hp motor of mine!

If you dont have a lathe you can use silver solder to braze the original hose barbs to new correct size fittings or what I did is make a T fitting with 2 regular size hose barbs and a small hose barb for the hand torch but I'm a glassblower so I use a bench torch at the same time

Great project and have two questions- Why did you slit the mandrel before you cut the taper and why did you use brass for the expander?

If it's not the chuck flexing it's the.... Chuck to spindle engagement Head stock bearings The extra mass of the bigger chuck should help, rather than hinder, if anything.

Well explained but I think I’d remove the Allen head and replace it with a bolt with a double thickness head, it would be easier to get a spanner on and keep the locking key engaged while tightening,

Inherited a Myford A2 (ML4?) recently and could not work out what the backgear assembly was all about. Appreciate the explanation as it firmly knocks out one of the bigger questions I have about this lathe. Thank you.

One very important thing to remember is that ptfe tape is NOT a sealant. It's a lubricant. It just makes it easier to seat the different components that perform the sealing. Using too much tape can prevent getting a good seal.

👍. I've found that the newer vehicles that use the ultra thin motor oil works well as a cutting oil. Its free when changing your oil. Its nasty tho.
