I think Luffy becoming Joyboy is similar to Neo becoming the one in the Matrix. When the Oracle tells Neo he’s not the one, it’s true because he hasn’t synced up with that yet and assumed the mantle. Same with Luffy he wasn’t Joyboy yet. But now their spirits are synced and he has assumed the mantle.
