If there is an evacuation and nothing happens, the authorities get skewered. If there is an eruption and no one can get out, the authorities get skewered. Damned if you do. Damned if you don't.

I wonder how many people have already gone? I know that I would go, but then I think I have the anticipation that says so, and the means and relatives elsewhere to do it. There was an evacuation in the 1970 s (?) and nothing happened. We can only hope that the worst doesn't happen .

Same thing the people living near Mt. Saint Helen's said. You can still find the citizen's interviews of being upset and mad. They said the exact same thing, until they were proven wrong when it flattened the area. The thing with Campi Flegrei is that it has been changing and increasing in activity. The swarm in May with the 4.4 earthquake was the most energetic event since the current bradyseismic crisis began in 2005, not to mention it was the biggest seismic swarm in over 40 years. 150 earthquakes in just 5 hours show that something is changing, most likely magma or gases building up underneath the surface. Strength and frequency of the quakes increase as the caldera weakens and pressure builds. I would prefer leaving the area and laughing about my panicking and being silly than be stuck there when things go south. You can't evacuate that many people safely and Pozzuoli is the area that probably wouldn't be able to evacuate. I wouldn't feel safe there personally.

@@D3m3nz4 Mount St. Helen's was at a Red alert level prior to the eruption and had significant uplift of several meters observed just before it erupted. The geologist were very confident that Mount St. Helen's was going to have an eruption. Campi Flegrei on the other-hand is still at a yellow alert level with a small amount of uplift. It's showing a heighten level of activity but geologist believe that there is no current imminent threat of an eruption. Otherwise the alert level would have been raised to Orange or Red. Some people like to run around saying the sky is falling just like Chicken Little just to get people excited.

In my own experience with high use and stress machinery it happens with high temperature fluids that buzzing and slamming occurs in systems in which the fluid runs in channels and hoses and gets pretty loud. We would never release pressure until the units cooled enough to handle otherwise personal injury would occur. I suspect the magma below Campi Flegrei and Naples may well be doing that kind of thing but on a massive scale. Seems like a good place to not be around.

Campi Flegrei is not a Super Volcano. To be classified as a Super Volcano it had to have had a Super Eruption in the past. The definition of a Super Eruption is that the volcano had to have an eruption that released over 1,000 km^3 of tepha. There is no current evidence that Campi Flegrei ever had that big of eruption. But a Campi Flegrei eruption could still be catastrophic for all the people who leave near the volcano.

Yellowstone is always rumbling + letting off pressure. I mean its apparently good that it does that, to let off the pressure. Its probably normal that Campi rumbles and does that too. Its just unfortunate that the area is so built up. At least our past President, when he was told about the huge mass of land that became known as Yellowstone, realized that land was not "livable". And that is why it was made into a national park. Because someone in authority was smart enough to realize it was a very bad idea to build houses and towns and cities on a place that was always shaking, with hot geisers of water, bubbling mud pots and no doubt " poisonous air" from those volcanic fumes. But look at that image behind you, of those white smoke / steam gushing out of those cracks in the ground. If those people live there they must know about it. Years ago I was very scared of Yellowstone (especially due to a certain channel here on YT). But as time went on I realized it wasnt going to do anything. That is besides what it is always doing which is rumbling. I dont think Campi is going to do anything either. But rumble. And probably damage houses + sewers and stuff. But they should not have built there at all... And who wants to breathe in those toxic fumes? What does that do to your health? To your lungs and to the brain? Its probably all over the area even if you dont smell it.. Fine particles. I wonder what kind of reading an air purifier would give you in that area? Scary to think about that!! 😮 😨😵 And what are the long term affects of people living there breathing that in for generations??? But people should not live there. Unfortunately they do. And its a very expensive problem in multiple ways.
@laattardo
@laattardo Ай бұрын
Yellowstone has ALWAYS had activity. Italy, not so much. EQ swarms are NOT normal for this volcano. Add in the rapid rise of land which Italy hasn't seen in decades if not centuries and the fact that the magma is much closer to the surface than initially thought ~ its like watching a slow train wreck you can do nothing about.
@laattardo
@laattardo Ай бұрын
Also, they had no clue about the size of Yellowstone when Roosevelt made it the first national park. Roosevelt was so mesmerized by the natrual beauty and that's why it was made a national park. It became a national park in 1872 and the caldera wasn't defined till the 1960-1970s

Island of Capri authorities just cut off tourists coming to the island because of water supply problems. Before Vesuvius blew back in 79 ce, the Romans reported water supplies drying up. Later geologists realized this was because of magma rising and evaporating underground water sources, and uplift of land due to magma rising, breaking water pipes. Another sign?

It is really a risk and nobody not even the most advanced Scientist can make a real prognosis. What is so dangerous is the potential evacuation. Yes, there might be also a chance that this thing erupts without much warning. The likelihood is not high but nobody can say for sure. This volcano scares me. I have friends on vacation in Canada and if this thing starts erupting they will be stuck there.

If it blows, this will have serious concequences for the rest of Europe: agricultural , social and economical. Can't have that, with all those wars around.

Can you define what a super volcano is. . Compared to a none super volcano. I thought the super volcano had VEI 8 history but this volcano doesn't have that history

I predict tomorrow or Sunday, they should go, 'you shall not worship your own creation' forget your possessions, leave, THEN hope for the best. it might not be a big eruption, but those close will not make it. if Sunday things are clear, ok, I m wrong.

Technically Campi Flegrei is not a Supervolcano which requires 1000 cubic km of ash eruption history and to my knowledge there has not been an eruption history of that magnitiude. am I uniformed?
