Fun fact: The burning walkers came from the house Beth and Daryl burned down, which is what Carol and Mika saw in the distance. I love how close but how far apart all the characters are. Great episode.

This is why Carol is my favorite character. She went from a scared delicate flower to this badass who is the only one truly willing to do what needs to be done to ensure everyones survival.

I'm sorry in advance if this makes me sound insensitive, but Lizzie had to go in order to keep Judith safe. Lizzie was too dangerous to be left alive.

So I'm fairly sure that Lizzie was schizophrenic, because she said that she could hear them and she genuinely believed it. I think she might have had a pyschotic break either when the outbreak happened, or when her dad died. I think the reason she didnt feel remorseful after killing Mika is because she truly believed that Mika was going to come back and be fine. Its sad, but Carol did what had to be done. There were no therapists to help Lizzie and she was too far gone anyway.

YES, i remember brighton sharbino (lizzie) surprising me the first time i saw this with her acting, everyone in this episode did so good!!

This episode definitely isnt underrated. It's one of the most watched and one of highest rated of the entire show

Lizzie wasn’t just a threat to anyone she would come across. She was a threat to Judith. If they let her live she probably would’ve killed someone else in the future, but even if she didn’t, she definitely still would’ve killed Judith. But had they let her live and left her alone somewhere (without her following them or something), she probably would’ve had a miserable rest of her days, and an agonizing death. She wouldn’t suffer from a bullet to the head, but she’d suffer from basically anything else. Starvation, dehydration, lack of rest, being eaten alive, whatever horrific things people could do to her, those would all cause much more suffering. It’s a horrible decision to have to make and a horrible thing to have to do, but I understand why it was done. Safer for everyone.

I have seen this quite a few times, and I still cry. Melissa McB. is such a great actor, and should have won an Emmy for this episode.

Fun fact: Melissa McBride didnt even have to audition for The Walking Dead. We can see why! Plus she had worked for the man that adapted the comic to tv and was the Showrunner Frank Darabont. She worked in his movie The Mist which also featured Andrea and Dale from TWD!

Yes in our world sometimes children with sociopathic and psychotic tendencies can be saved. But in a world where medical drugs, therapies and doctors don’t exist anymore…the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. Keeping her alive was a danger to anyone she would’ve been around. There was no telling when another psychotic episode would happen…it’s sad but that’s the harsh truth of a post apocalyptic world

So sad what happened to Mika. I was hoping the writers didn't kill her character off cuz I thought she could've been like Beth. Even they think they are weak or not ready to take action, when tested they are strong independent females. Both are learning from pros. Beth was learning from Daryl and Mika could've learned many things from Carol. Then maybe eventually these two would become these stealthy badasses that no one expected. It's also sad seeing how messed up in the head Lizzie got. What a hard decision Carol had to make. So heartbreaking. Great acting in this episode by everyone. - Yvette

The only other thing I could think of that Lizzie could’ve had happen to her is Carol locking her in a room with Mica after she turned, just to show her what happened. But that would’ve been insanely cruel, even if it “made her realize”. This was the only way. She was a danger to Judith.

Shane died around the same time sophia was revealed as a zombie which spiritually killed carol. I think when shane died part of his spirit went inside carol. He was always willing to make the “hard” choices that the group wont, same as carol.

What people don't realize is if a zombie apocalypse actually happened this would be reality in a nutshell it's not a world you want to ever live in

This is the saddest episode of the entire show for me. Up until this point adults were getting killed left right and centre but seeing kids go too was unexpected and really depressing. Lizzie is only a child but simply wouldn't have survived much longer and was too far gone. It takes someone like Carol is do the only thing that could be done. It was effectively a mercy killing as they could have just abandoned her to the walkers.

If I was Carol I would do the same. But it was severely fuck up my mental state for ever. Killing a person that's coming at you. It's easy to rationalize that so you don't feel any guilt. But to kill a child... Especially an unarmed one.. who is close to you. That would haunt me. I understand why she did and I agree it was the best and only course of action for the safety of Judith. But man it hurts the soul.
