Killing Carl was one of the reasons Andrew Lincoln left the show! He said it himself

This will without a doubt remain AMCs, Gimples and The Walking Dead’s worst decision EVER! Like seriously what were they thinking?!😡

I stopped watching right after Carl died so I'd say it was the worst decision they could have made. Started watching again when I knew Rick was gonna leave just to see his last episodes

You hit the nail on the head. The show kind of jumped the shark with Carl’s death. It certainly looked from the outside that Andrew Lincoln left due to Chandler’s treatment, even though everybody involved would deny that. I also think Carl’s TV demise could have affected the trajectory of the comic. What’s the point when your main character is dead? All that being said, it left me with a distaste for the former show runner, and tremendous respect for Angela Kang. Her Whisperer arc was some great TV. She saved season ten for sure.

The smart thing to do would've been to kill off Rick instead and have Carl become the new leader of Alexandria, as the comics did. I'm one of the 2 people alive who still doesn't believe that Judith is related to Rick, so to me I think Carl should've been the true last Grimes in the show

Morgan would have been so much better….would have preserved the legacy of the character

I always felt imprisoning Negan was an act of Rick's groups dominance over the Saviors and civilization's victory over barbarism, At least in the comic. It deprived the Saviors a martyr, undeified Negan and forced all involved to acknowledge society exists again. For the TV show to turn it into mercy and eventual coexistence is disappointing and unnecessary. Especially since having Carl die wouldn't make Rick any more merciful. They milked it too long. Should have ended it 3 seasons sooner and not killed Carl

Going back on the word that ‘no one was safe’ was their mistake. Knowing that Daryl and other selected characters were given immunity from being killed off just ruined it.

Boy, I remember the comment section when this went down. It was worse than a drunken brawl outside of a bar at 2 in the morning. There wasn't none of that be kind to everyone stuff. One lady ( Bri at the disco) even shut her channle down over it and quit TWD all together.

I'm 50/50 I guess because I didn't read the comics (am slowly doing this now). I think that killing him off was a mistake at the time but his storyline should be different. I get that a lot of comic readers wanted the show to not deviate from that storyline but then the show would've been too predictable. It's a good point though - at the time they were saying that they planned to keep the show going for 20 + seasons so it's hard to say what Gimple was thinking. Any choice he makes is usually bad!

Definitely put a wrench on things. 😂 And one or the lamest, worst mistakes they could have ever done. I wished they made more badass decisions, and went more balls to the wall for our heroes instead of whatever the hell they settle on. Quality doesn’t lasts forever I suppose.

Honestly i dont care that carl died its how he died being bit like a moron years into the apocalypse. Even the chorography was cheesy and dumb when he was saving sadiq i would of agreed with the decision if carl went out like a champ not all sad and being bit by a zombie (lame). Thats my take on it

I really wasn't impressed with Chandler Riggs acting.

How was the show about Carl when he didn't have a real back stroke or did anything for us to say that it's was the Rick show till Daryl took over but not Carl he was barely seen on show to begin maybe a few good moments just like Glenn but that's about it

Honestly I was WAY more shocked about like sing Rick. Carl's death was more lame, especially by comparison, but both always felt empty to me. But losing Rick was more of a gut lunch for me. Losing Carl hurt, but I was more confused than anything. He never did much, that season was stye first time he really started to come out of his shell. Rick was always the main character who actually did everything. Carl was mostly just there. He was cool (again, especially in his final season), but he was nothing compared to Rick, imo 😅. I guess that doesn't mean he couldn't have been a much bigger character after that season, with Rick being gone and all, but still. Also, who cares if he looks too old when you're about to do a time skip 😆? Just give him a really haircut and let him grow some facial hair he'd look about right. Not mention that would have been a more realistic visual age difference than for most of the other characters. Except maybe Negan with his white beard and salt and pepper hair 😅.

It was at the time and the viewers who stopped watching after Glenn definetly did stop watching after Carl. Lots of young and teen characters stopped warching

AMC itself as a company whole also the main show as well spin-off FTWD is riddled with so many controversies and really bad decisions that alienated the community / fan base which led to its major downfall. The firing of Frank Darabont, Dave Erickson started this curse in the first place. Actors, actresses leaving left and right. The death of Abraham, Glenn, Carl, Simon, Madison's badly retconned fake-out death, lastly... Nick is what sealed both show's fate in the end massive decline in terms of viewership, ratings to keep this afloat. Franchise is getting so tiring that it's becoming bloat, oversaturated, should've never drag things out for way too long. AMC being hit, sued by multiple lawsuits. (Too many things to list out, so I'm not gonna bother with that.) Chandler Riggs is the sole main reason why Andrew Lincoln left, not because he wanted to spend time with his family that is a load of BS there's old articles about that. "When Scott Gimple decided to kill off Carl he called Andy to let him know, it was not well received by Andy. As he once stated: "Carl and Lori were the engine that kept Rick going, and they killed the engine off" which created a hole in Ricks storyline." "Gimple fired Chandler Riggs because he didn't want to pay him an adult salary. To make matters worse they made him lie about wanting to go to school. Chandler had just bought a house. Two weeks before his birthday Gimple talked to him about advancing his plot line only to fire him. To save his career he had to lie about why he left the show. The series finale left so many things unresolved."

Never cared for Carl. Seems I'm in the minority on that. I wasn't at all upset that he got written out of the story. The only reason I agree it was a mistake, it cause it made Andrew quit.

Ehhh for me it was glenn after Glenn died I just kinda slowly started not watching it but then last year I got bored an decided to re watch from s1 to the last episode since they were still coming out an ngl I enjoyed it the ending wasn’t my favorite but I’m happy to get spin-offs Honestly ur the reason I got back into it ur videos r really good an I can tell u have a passion for the show an what U do so thank you

In my opinion. NO. It wasn't a mistake. It served a great purpose in the story and even if it was a mistake, they handled it very well throughout Season 9. The one death that really was pointless and wasted potential and was most definitely a HUGE mistake was Beth Greene's death. I dare say it was 10x worse decision than killing Coral.
