One of my friends introduce me 40k, and later when i discovered the imperial guard i had to ask him why anyone would choose them over any other faction, his response has stuck with me for quite some time. He said, "The imperial guard is not strong and near invincible like the space marines, they are not fast and graceful like the Eldar, they are not an unending, ever adapting horde like the Tyranids. No, they are strong in a different way. The imperial guard is strong in that they would fight to the last man, as they stood alone that last soldier would fight, as they stood, bayonet broken, ammunition depleted, surrounded, the planet cracking under their feet, that soldier would still fight with the ferocity of the entire imperium."

I've seen many people compare space marines to the imperial guard, and laugh, because when you compare the two, the guardsmen are vastly outclassed in almost every way. But honestly, I can't help but love the imperial guard, and it's for one very simple reason. The space marine knows no fear, but the guardsman knows nothing but fear, and still has the courage to fight on against endless tides of horrors, even when death is all but certain. They sacrifice everything, not for honor or glory, but for the sake of humanity, even though no one will ever know what they have done. Space marines may be the symbol of the Imperium, the shining beacon of hope for the common man, but they could accomplish nothing without the aid of the humble guardsman, who simply holds the line, and dies standing. CADIA STANDS!

You don't know how humbled I am by the guard, when I played DOW Dark Crusade as the Space Marine, they beat me bloody. Since then I've been buying imperial guard novels and love them. Because like the Authors wrote, "It is the Imperium of MAN after all".

I've loved the guards since my first intro to 40k in middle school. I've always loved the idea of the Emperor's true ideas in motion. Of men who will hold the line to the last breath the last lasgun the last bayonet and still stare down the enemy with courage and honor. And the belief that mankind united is the mightiest thing we can achieve. And ugh the guard are just the embodiment of everything I loved I just can't put together my words proper. The Cadian shock troopers deserve recognition because they're regular humans going up against the greatest threats to humanity without any modifications like a space marine. Just the gear they're given, a prayer to the god-emperor, and their titanium strong will.

That guardsmen who bayonetted a chaos space Marine must have balls that were built in a Titan making Manufactorum.

I salute the Guard for being damn courageous. They fight against all odds and they fight whatever the Galaxy can throw at them. They hold the line for as long as they can and as long as they breathe. I admire the Guards more than the Astartes for their sheer dedication and courage for the Imperium. To the last man unto the last stand the Guards will die as heroes of the Imperium.

Men who are weak, feeble, and nothing compared to the horrors of the Warp, Xeno, and mutants, that attack mankind. Yet, you still fight, with little training, worthless weapons and armor, and a leader who’d sooner shoot you than the enemy would,” he glared at the Commisar, showing hiss disgust, before continuing,” I’ll tell you why you fight because YOU most! I am a Wolfen, my armor harden, my ax sharpen, my blood holds the power and strength of thousands of my brothers and my Lord Russ, so I fear no Xeno, no Heretic, and no cursed spawn...And yet, you charge into the fray, with nothing better than a Bayonette with a Flashlight, and you do so with courage in your hearts,” He then knelt by me, placing his large, metal, hand on my shoulder, and says,” That, Guardsman, is why I admire you!” He then looked to my company, saying,” I am going out there, and I’m going to make those bastards pay for every inch of proud Cadia they soil, WHO WITH ME!?” and together we cheered. My Squad, my Commisar, our whole damn detachment, we cheered on. We grabbed our Lasguns, we fixed Bayonettes, and we charged right into the killing zone. We did this, not with fear of our Commisar’s Lasgun behind us, but with the Courage and honor of the Imperial Guard, and we do so with a smile.
