Loved loved Earl Hamner and so thankful that he created this wonderful and family show full of love and loyalty for your family. The Walton's will always be to me the absolute best family show ever produced. I watch it everyday faithfully and I have never missed an episode. Earl Hammers Voice needs to be Recognized as one of the most Iconic Voices in the Business. His Voice was just Amazing. And a Treasure. Loved The Walton's and still do, today.

I was a little girl in the seventies. And watching the Waltons every week was always a must. Both my parents were born in the thirties. My Dad was the youngest of three children. And he was eleven years younger than the middle child my Aunt Kay. And he was born in thirty-six and mom was the youngest of three and the only girl. And she was born in thirty-nine. My Uncle and aunt on Dads side were depression kids. I remember having a sit down conversation with my Aunt to find out what it was like being so small during that horrible time in American history. For a school project. And she just said it was hard. But we didn't know different, life was hard before the depression so it didn't feel so bad during. But we had it easier then some. Ma had a garden full of vegetables. And Dad had a cow he kept in the garage for milk and my great uncle raised chickens for eggs and meat. And a second Great Uncle had pigs, another had beef cows. So every few days the aunts would come get a couple quarts of milk and vegitables. And every week (Grand)ma would get a big slab of meat for supper. So they never starved. New shoes were a issue to get or getting glasses so they could see was a difficult one also. But my (Grand)pa had seven siblings. (Grand)ma had a sister and brother. So all my grandparents siblings helped support each other. My parents had nine not including me. So we watched the Waltons for my parents and grandparents nostalgia reasons. And just because it was such a heartwarming story my siblings and I loved it. We use to have fun doing the Walton goodnights. And now when we all get together we still do it. Because both families did similar rituals. I still watch it when I come on it.

A very sad day. Knowing television broadcasters and the media, will not give this great man his tribute and accolades that he much deserved. A brilliant and incredible writer of "Spencer's Mountain" and "The Homecoming". Creator and narrator of "The Walton's" , the greatness of Earl Hamner Jr. will be greatly be missed. In the 1970's, taping with family values, Christians morals, respecting traditions, and community unity in a time when Americans, found violence or "The Anti-Hero", a major success and draw at the box office. With the incredible success and the longevity of "The Walton's", Earl Hamner, not only proved that family traditional shows, is not dead, but has alive and active audience. Many family -Christian base shows came after the success of "The Walton's". Like "Little House on the Prairie", "Eight is Enough", "Highway to Heaven", to name a few. The success of these actors and their long standing career, was greatly of the selection and credit of Earl Hamner Jr. He was a unique pioneer in television and literature, thank you for your contribution. And, thank you for sharing your family and the mountains of Virginia. And helping me, to draw closer to my family and adopting into their southern roots. RIP

I loved the series, as can be seen from my contribution on this forum, above, but I have to say I wanted to puke at your syrup-filled mush. The sentiments you expressed were mercifully absent from the programmes themselves and the commentators on the tape and of course Mr Hammer himself.

yeah. there is such a lack of good TV drama these days ,it stands out, where before, there was an abundance of it. Flip Wilson was hilarious. but these plain old white folks took over the time slot. it's on in the afternoon on INSP. 9/25/18.

Exemplary is the word that comes to mind as I listened to the entirety of this archive. Interestingly my watching these episodes over and over and THEN listening to how it was created gave me further enjoyment. I believe that Earl Hamner was the confectionery sugar and the icing that gave this show it's strong base that came from his families lifetime along with this host of professionals from producer's, director's and actor's expertise that made this the magical series that it became and still is! Love all of these people including the music by Jerry that is simply splendid; all of it!!! If only this pattern couldn't spill over into our lives with politics and much more where the final act is one such substance and integrity assembling so many different pieces and versions into one wonderful presentation.

Good work on these documentaries. This reminded me how much The Waltons was a show worthy of my family's viewing loyally in its prime. I realize now how I as a young teen wandered away from it, probably by the time Will Geer had died - once John Boy left, it was not the show it had been. By the late '70s, I had tired of a lot of prime time TV, and I actually missed what I had "grown up" watching. Times had changed and so did I!

RIP Mr. Earl Hamner Jr ! Love your writing and creating of "The Waltons". It still lives in reruns and I love watching them. You will be greatly missed. They don't do many shows like "The Waltons", "Little House On The Prairie" and so forth anymore. The exception is on the Hallmark channel with "When Calls The Heart" and a few others there. The rest is CRAP reality tv with "Duck Dynasty" ( Christian based ) being the exception there.

People loved this show because it was about family, love, respect, plain long Christian values. The folks who run Hollywood are not Christians. That’s why I don’t watch TV anymore. As Mr. Hamner said about his movie, too much lurid leering. It’s disgusting. I admire Mr. H for hanging on to his values out there in “Babylon”. 🙂
