If Call of Duty and Sniper elite and Hitman etc taught people how to be killers and trained them, then shouldn't people thank video games? Because it means we have many trained demon killers ready to fight the devil with all the people trained by playing Doom. We are basically keeping the earth safe from the spawns of the devil.

@@MrWackozacko yeah. I told a kid that once. He thought he was all that because he plays COD Mobile. I told him he'd be the 1st to go. Come match time, he was on the opposite team, and got blasted by a teammate. I know it was him because of the way he screamed. What I told myself when I first started was it's nothing like video games. It's basically common sense. If I were to join the military and pick an MOS that sees combat, it would be nothing like games, airsoft or paintball. I could never live life like a video game in any circumstance. There are no respawns in real life

Makes me feel real lucky I grew up in a house that wasn’t controlled by fear mongering news. My dad was buying me shit like Mafia 2, GTA 4, Call of Duty and the Scarface game when I was only like 9 or 10 and would usually sit there watching the stories as I played like it was a movie. He usually just thought games were hilarious and fun to watch. He even use to play online splitscreen in CoD with me and would sometimes play solo, he never quite understood how to play, but thought it was a fun time

I had a foster father who would lock my video games up and tell me that they rot your brain. He told me to read the Bible. I would come home from school where I was bullied all week and on Saturday he would let me play for one hour on the weekend if I did chores. I literally had to earn every second of game time. On Sunday he would force me to go to church and the kids in the youth group would bully me. I always looked forward to Saturday cause I could be alone and not be bullied for one day of the week. I hated him for what he put me through. To this day he tries to contact me and preach every time I talk to him. Constantly telling me 'you seem to be doing well" you should read the Bible". I'm like why are u calling me all the time you kicked me out and still think ur in charge of my life.

That’s the kind of thing that would push a person to violence. If only there was some kind of outlet that would let you channel some of that frustration without any real world consequences. Like perhaps a fake virtual world that could give you experiences life simply has not provided you. Sadly such a thing is far beyond the reach of man until the far future of 1958 AC

I know this is old but I loved watching this. I'm a 50 year old gamer. I have been gaming since the 80s. I also have a degree in psychology and I work with many people who suffer with mental illness. In my very early 20s, I was diagnosed with schizophrenia. I was out of reality for a while and worked hard to get back. It's not perfect but I'm doing what I couldn't do back then. I love video games. Halo, Doom, Wolfenstein, Quake, Mass Effect, GTA, etc. Not once...not a single time...did I ever feel an inkling of an urge to hurt anyone, especially kill anyone. We use video games in some of our therapy. Co-op gaming helps a lot of people improve, despite the content. To create a killer, it's not ever just one thing that causes it. It's a perfect storm of genetics, socio-economic status, relationships, access to weapons, and so much more have to all go horribly wrong. Video games may be a piece of that, but only if the others exist. As you said, correlation does not equal causation.

There's a quote I love from scream "Now Sid, don't you blame the movies. Movies don't create psychos. Movies make psychos more creative!" It shows that movies and games can be to blame for the way the crime was committed but the act of violence itself only is brought forward by people with mental illness.

After I had my daughter I realized how important it is to try to preserve a child’s innocence as long as you can but you gotta remember that they’re gonna grow up with or without you. I’ll probably start buying her m rated games (if that’s what she wants) when she’s like 14 because at that point I know I was already sneaking m rated games when I was a kid. As long as you stay in your child’s life and give them all the love and attention you can they won’t be influenced by other media like that.

I was allowed to play m-rated games at a very younge age but they made sure to mix it up with more kid friendly type games. 15 years later I came out just fine. The only thing violent video games have done to me is change my sense of humor, but even then it's not entirely accurate as my sense of humor was shaped from other violent media from TV and the internet (mostly LiveLeak lol)

My family was always very wary about certain games and my mom followed age restrictions which fair enough I don’t blame her. However she loves mortal kombat so I was always playing those games. To this day I have seen very little negative effect from playing video games and I actually just really love them and gush about how they are made.

I’m a Christian, and I’m studying to become a pastor. Video games are my favorite pastime, with my two favorite games being Halo Reach and Skyrim. I play nearly every kind of game, including Grand Theft Auto (gRaNd AuTo ThEfT). Most of my friends are Christians, and we often play these games together. I’m also a huge fan of The Act Man! You’re one of my favorite KZfaqrs and I think you are spot on with everything in this video. Any Christian that says playing video games is sinful is clearly reading a different Bible than the one I’m familiar with, and those fanatics shown in the video always make me sad as to how they use their platform.

20:01 the only thing that comes close would probably be VR games, but the appeal of those kinds of games is that it can simulate reality, hence why it’s called Virtual Reality. And even then I’d still say no they have perfectly captured that experience because they’re always gonna try to exaggerate or make things more “exciting” to make it more fun for the player.

my mum is 60 and every once in a while my brothers and i will go over to her house with a gamecube and we will play mario kart or mario party with her. she becomes way more relaxed, she's a workaholic and sometimes forgets to have fun every once in a while so we help her with that. i can never understand people that say video games cause violence when my brothers and i grew up playing video games and have not committed crimes. my mum never believed that opinion either, because she knew firsthand that it doesn't cause violence, she intervened and if we didn't do chores she'd take our consoles away and it worked. parenting goes a long way. if you're not parenting your child, you're gone all the time, and they're being raised by these video games, of course some violent behaviour is going to happen. that's not because of their dependency of video games, it's because of the mental and emotional traumas going through them that's confusing the everliving hell out of them, and kids lash out when they're confused (example: tantrums). having emotionally and physically unavailable parents definitely causes trauma.

I didn't played m rated games until I was 18, but that was because I didn't want to see the stuff, not because I was worried about being violent. i was once talked into playing mortal kombat when i was 16. Now I'm playing resident evil games and devil may cry 3 and I'm having a lot of fun with them. But, I will never play mortal kombat again because the newer ones are just still too much, although the older ones seem fine.

90% of the time they target gaming because it's popular. You'll notice that it's pretty rarely just "gaming" as a whole and almost always a specific game that was just released. Something really popular. They do this because they know it will get their story shared. It'll get them those precious clicks and views. That's what they really care about.
