When I was kid, I saw the scene when Elijah Wood saved one of the evil kids from drowning in water at the water tower. This scene was stuck in my mind for over 24 years and I tried hard to find the movie until I finally did it. I rewatched this movie after many many years and I was indescribably happy and it warmed my soul.. I will watch it one more soon..

Agreed - that scene is powerful. It was the youngest Lipnicci kid who probably got the most abused by his dad and brothers. There is a time you can fight - or show compassion.

My sons both auditioned for parts in this movie "The War". We live in rural South Ga. My oldest son was 11 or 12 at the time. He made it all the way to the end but didn't get the part. But it was still fun. The funny thing is...I was sitting out in the auditorium, one of the many days of auditioning, and they came out to get me and took me to the back where they were at. They happened to be on one of the scenes where my son was going to have to say curse words, but he was afraid of getting into trouble and wouldn't unless I told him it was ok to do it for the movie. I gave my permission. I thought it couldn't be That bad. Lol. And he let loose! I was Stunned! Lol. I just turned around and walked out of the room, got down the hallway and laughed about the whole incident. But the movie was a good movie and I haven't heard any criticism about it. Lord, that was a long time ago.

My all-time favorite movie ever. It and every character, every scene, every lesson is totally a part of me. Reminds me of my own childhood, my family. Every character, every line and word is important and meaningful, multi-layered. Watch it and take it to heart. This is what movies should be like, imo. This is reality and truth.

One of my favorite movies. My dad fought and shot it out in streets all his life… In Texas, Gary, Indiana and other cities. My dad wanted different for all of us. My dad always tells me that and it’s true. “All it takes is a split second to do something you will regret the rest of your life.” My dad taught me to be respectful and my mother taught me to be kind. How I live my life on my terms. I’ve learned how life should be. Forgive those who don’t understand. Lend a helping hand to those that need guidance for peace.

Dir. by Jon Avnet who also directed Fried Green Tomatoes. As a teenager i was proud i could tell the style was the same in both movies. (Flashbacks are used almost identically as a big example.) I thought i just adored 2 random movies but i believe Avnet's penchant for this particular style in storytelling were necessary and, for many of us, it is the reason these movies have been seared into pur souls 💗
