The War Zone is a powerful and brilliantly acted film about 'betrayal'. Betrayal is the hallmark of this film from start to finish on every single member of the family. The new baby girl 'Alice' is also a victim of this beytrayal. The 'performance' that his witnessed mainly through the eyes of 'Tom' is what is so intelligently depicted and through his eyes we see 'the depth of the betrayal' that he can no longer partake in. The father when confronted in the final scene of this film is so heavily in denial and projects this unwanted 'sickness' onto his teenage son in his perverse attempt to prevent him from looking at his self and wants to resume 'normality' at any cost. The power of the acting and the two 'teen children' carry this film and Tom Roth clearly and brilliantly has covered expertly in my view. One of the most powerful films ever depicting family life and Incest / and betrayal and the devastation it causes. Excellent +++++

Just saw this film. That was some darkly powerful stuff. Wanted to give a hug to Jessie and get her away from that.

The brother in the War Zone was very weird and annoying especially standing outside his parent’s room watching her pump milk from her breast and his creepy relationship with his sister.

@sweetpkobes I haven't read the book, but apparently in the book the two of them have sex. I was concerned about the end too but I wasn't sure if it was supposed to indicate that Tom just wanted to hide from the world. Someone mentioned that Tim Roth wanted the end to be more ambiguous and hopeful in the film than in the novel. Perhaps he explains in the commentary, if there is one.

I'm sure it is up to the viewer's interpretation, but how popular is the assumption that Tom and Jessie at the end of the film, perform incest. Does Tom in essence replace his Dad?

I really don’t think this would be the case due to how angry they both were towards the dad

Ray Winstone " i want them to think 'i wish i had a father like that ' " (?! you mean u want us to think that right up until we see what he is doing to his daughter...) Tilda Swinton "this could happen in any family". Huh ?? If u are trying to say We are talking about humans, not monsters, and this happens in many families...then i say agreed. But to say this could happen in any family??

Some people recommended this to me as a mindfuck film but I don't see it that way at all. It disgusted and saddened me, it didn't nope my mind or make me go whoa..... This is just a fucked up film. Maybe I'm just not accustomed to the way this family is around each other but even before eyou find out the dark secret this family is weirdly comfortable being naked around each other. At first I thought maybe the father didn't do it and the son was just imagining it because the dad seemed so adamant that nothing happened. It actually is kind of ambiguous at the end, the dad never admits to anything.

"What do we do now?" Tom closes the door ..the end..Do we assume he continued this abuse? I hate the ending..
@desa415
@desa415 3 жыл бұрын
No, I think it just means that they only have each other now. Dad is dead and the mother is probably going to hate the son and blame the daughter.

Tom? would he go to jail? Would his Mum forgive him? jessie was an innocent her childhood stolen by the one who should have protected her. I know she was a victim and her life in ruins, yet her brother, to free her, killed their father a very violent way.One could hope for forgiveness and redemption for these children, but I wouldn't expect it.

The pain of sexual abuse and incest is never really an easy solution. Because even if justice is delivered the pain and trauma and that experience doesn’t go away

I don't understand why Ray Whinstone would say good things about his character. Unless there was some sarcasm in there.

What he meant was that at the beginning he was hoping the audience saw him as a good man because they wanted to portray a seemingly ‘normal family’ to begin with
