The lyrics to The End are a perfect way to end a vlog, "this is the end, so long my friends" lol. That is a brilliant coincidence that The End carries over perfectly into D2D to encourage you to play the album again, they are geniuses even when it's unintentional. Yes, the title Hunter refers to the Grim Reaper hunting down the queen. The way I explained the storytelling in this album to my mom, since she was concerned about me listening to an album called Queen of the Murder Scene, was by using one of her favorite movies, Evita, as an example. In that movie it starts with Madonna's character, Eva Peron's funeral, and then goes back to show the significant events that led up to her death, so it starts with the end just like D2D and works it's way back to the beginning, or end depending on how you look at it. After telling her that I reassured her that they are wonderful people who would never promote murder lol. I'm going to see their headlining show in Indianapolis in August and I've got the VIP M&G package again and was able to convince my dad to come get warned in person, so it'll be his first time seeing them live!

The personality differences really come out in these VLOGs and it’s fascinating. “Ale is an independent thinker…” - many times in other videos you can see Dany trying to get Ale to follow her on something and Ale’s like, “Nah, I’m good”. I guess she inspired the lyric in KAK, “somebody’s got a mind of their own”. Definitely a free-thinker. Dany is the organizer, the core; Pau is the loose, sometimes wild, creative force; Ale is the moody outlier who lurks & waits to pounce on any mistakes. It’s very amusing & entertaining!
@don-music
@don-music Жыл бұрын
So yea it seems like we are on the same page about Ale being an independent thinker! She could so easily have been a total follower with two big sisters who are born leaders, and rather dominating at that... but instead she seems to have learned (maybe, or just been born with) an ability to cut to the chase fast... possibly because she only can cut into conversation for a few seconds so has to make it count.
@Scott_Diverscott
@Scott_Diverscott Жыл бұрын
@@don-music It's not that she can't cut in.. I've noticed that when Ale does speak up, Dany and Pau go out of their way to let her speak.. At least, until they want to chime back in... It's them treating her thoughts and opinions with respect and placing a weight of significance on them. I think that Ale holds back for other reasons. She is an observer. She knows she doesn't have to engage, so she doesn't. She bides her time and concentrates on staying laser focused. When she does speak, it has even more significance. It's funny watching Ale in interview settings. Dany and Pau will go back and forth, answering questions and Ale appears (key word) to not be paying attention. Suddenly, she will make a clarification or interject something vital to the conversation, seemingly from out of the blue. They're all quite intelligent. I think Ale is the silent leopard waiting to pounce.
@don-music
@don-music Жыл бұрын
very good points! Yea, I would say that "quite intelligent" is an understatement. Very good point about Ale... Pau talks because she has to talk, I think.. it's like an overflow valve on a car's radiator... when it start boiling, something has to come out, and Pau's brain is cooking up something almost continuously.

@@don-music In interviews, when Ale wants to talk, she puts her hand on Pau, Dany or both and they stop talking and let her speak.. at least a word or two…. before they start in, again. But they certainly respect her and stop, when she signals to them that she wants to speak.

The honesty that Dany, Pau and Ale have with each other is one of the secrets to the incredible music they make. They don't say that they like something just to save hurt feelings. Likewise, if they think that something needs work, their communication style ensures the others that it is a true opinion and not just words to put someone down. Because of this honesty, they are able to accurately analyze their songs as they develop and make the best choices to refine them.

Yes that's EXACTLY it! And yet they aren't like yer stereotypical rock group of drunken loudmouth attitude dudes who start a fist fight or rage quit the band when they are pissed and forget how to use their words (a stereotype that is surprisingly common in real life bands).

hahahaha yea but at least she has interpreters! That is EXACTLY what I feel too. Dany is brilliant, but where Pau's brilliance causes her to talk really fast, Dany just doesn't talk fast, but her brain is planning an organized paragraph output that is eloquent and articulate... and sometimes I think her brain just doesn't wait for her speech processor to complete, and "Gah!"

Pau says that if she wasn't doing this she would probably be writer, like a novelist. As an author, I know a lot of other authors, and I have worked with other creatives many times. Imagine being in a room with five or six other people and all of us talking like Pau - one tangent after another. It is a feature of being a verbally-creative person. We drive other people crazy if they are trying to follow us, but interestingly enough, we usually seem to follow what one another is saying. I think it lends itself to the stereotype of authors being reserved or shy. Around other authors who we know, we aren't reserved at all. But we are all overly conscious of what others think about us. So, unless we know that someone is capable of thinking like a verbally-creative person, we would rather not take the lead in any conversation. Naturally when we speak, it can become one tangent after another but everything is related to everything else while still being in a single stream of consciousness. I guarantee that anyone outside of the conversation who is not an author wouldn't have a clue what any of us were talking about. When there are others around, like our spouses or friends, sometimes they ask what the hell we were all laughing about. But for all of us authors, it is completely stimulating conversation as it is rare that anyone really gets what we are saying whenever we are on a creative roll.

@@don-music I think Pau is a lot more outgoing than the norm. There are some authors who are like that. Just a personality variance. But she has been interviewed so often and the same general questions are asked so often that she is well-rehearsed for answering those questions. Also, some naturally reserved folks put on a persona to be in public, like their are acting. She could be good at doing that.
@don-music
@don-music Жыл бұрын
Yea... I'm certain, but I've never found the clip again to verify this, that I saw a candid moment in a vlog one time when Pau said she used to be so shy that she couldn't look people in the eye. So if that isn't my imagination messing up the past, it's possible that she learned to overcompensate, and like REALLY OVERcompensate, with eye contact. LoL. But in a great, and endearing way... and it could also affect her speech mannerisms.

I love these vlogs. Yes, it it wonderful seeing behind the scenes of their process. But it is also so engaging since they are such genuine people and show that to us so often. Their personalities really do come through as well. Makes us feel like we know them without having ever met. Yeah, that is a one-way relationship, but I the couple times I have met them, I feel that it could be very easy to spend far more time with them. Thanks for the tip of the cap, Don. Happy to help out in any way I can. You are the one doing the hard work of the analysis. When I saw them last month in NYC before they went to Europe, Hunter was picked out of the jar to play. Dany said "Did you guys know that this is my mom's favorite song out of that album?" Factoid you may not know. When Ale called out Dany for snorting, Dany holds up her index finger and flexes it in reply. I have seen Dany do this fairly often. It is a gesture to say 'yes' or 'I agree' that I have only seen in Mexico. I don't see Pau or Ale use that however.

Great way to explain Pau, I've never thought of it that way. Basically a Volcan w/o all the emotion control and ADD. It's funny how Pau likes accounting so much but doesn't even label her voice memos. Must be the drummer mind, that she thinks in numbers more than words. Who knows. One thing to consider is that Pau speaks fluent English as a second language and also some amount of French at least. She had a goal once upon a time of learning additional languages by her current age of 21 but work sort of interfered in that. Anyway, besides a lot of thoughts in a short amount of time with multiple tangents she also occasionally gets a little confused about which language she is having the conversation in. Note that in Spanish "y" pronounce as a long "e" is the same as the conjunctive "and" in English. I don't know that that is what she meant but one has to be a little careful since all three of them, but especially Pau and Dany, slip into Spanglish at times. Ale seems to consider her words a little longer before speaking and by then Pau has already said a couple more sentences....LOL
@don-music
@don-music Жыл бұрын
hahaha yes totally. For the counting part though, they were clearly speaking music counting standard though, as they are trained in it and it is universally used by drummers. But yea the spanglish cracks me up - and like her, with the "snare" forgetting part, I think it could well be the multi language thing.... That's hilarious about Ale thinking and Pau saying a couple more sentences by then LoL

@@don-music Maybe. But see the interview they did when in Canada Ep. 79 | The Road The Stage - The Warning Specifically at 23:30 Pau and Dany are talking about "givens" in the US that are not really universal. I have zero musical abilities but in my own profession I spent time in multiple countries and multiple languages. It was critical to make sure that even if using the same words that people were referring to the same thing. My profession was heavy on math and units of measure. As simple as making sure if temperatures were Fahrenheit, Celsius, Rankine or Kelvin... Usually I could easily tell but sometimes I worked in cryogenic ranges and other times in plasma ranges so it was possible to have confusion. Especially with globally sourced components and procedures there were sometimes incidents just because of different standards. An example being that much of the world uses 50 Hz power while the US uses 60 Hz. Assuming wasn't a good idea.

I may be wrong, but I do not think that Pau is looking for the drum part names, because of forgetfulness, but because when they rehearse, do sound checks, etc. they speak in Spanish, as the whole team is Mexican, so when they speak English, they often have issues with the musical nomenclature. If I remember correctly, they also mentioned that the notes and some other things are not named the same way in Spanish, so that may also confuse them when speaking English. Also I would be interested in your reaction to their vlog about their experience recording this album at Sphere studios, as to me it was very illuminating about the music industry.

you are probably correct about the language thing. I can't keep track of one language, and she is trying to describe things in english when they speak more often in Spanish between them, from what I've seen in behind the scenes footage
