The Hungarian's refusing to fire on the Poles isn't the cause of the bromance, it's just another example of it. It goes back centuries. Hungary and Poland have shared a king in the past, and continually had the back of each other, often when nobody else would help.

So true. Actually, Hungarian units offered to fight (yes, fight!) on polish side in the Uprising, only if soviets later recognised this and gave them "allies" status. Which soviets, ofcours, refused. (sorry for any misspelling). Polak, Wegier, dwa bratanki,i do szabli, i do szklanki!

Eastern Europe, and Poland in particular, did get a raw deal. The problem stems from it not being a two sided war. Russia had their own agenda, and I think the allies were a bit caught between keeping the Russians on-side and actually trying to do the right thing. I think Stalin was hugely underestimated.

They had things happen in Poland, even if they were not a real country for that time. That is kinda like saying that Getmany has a shirt history, because they didn’t exist until the mid 1800’s, but thats not the case because the HRE and German Confederation, and Prussia,Bavaria, ect.

@@Litwinus as a 4th generation polish american. I find it pretty triumphant. They (with lithuania) were the largest country in europe for hundreds of years, the largest on eastern europe for even longer. Longest running republic in european history if I remember correctly. Freedom loving and peace loving people. It took all of their neighbors to destabilize them enough to rip them apart. And even after being stateless split between the borders of multiple empires for several hundred years, they grew and prospered and maintained their culture and language and heritage and identity. Incredibly robust group of people and I'm pleasured to be nearly half polish.

on the night of August 3-4, allied planes - one halifax and three liberators - appeared for the first time over Warsaw with the Polish crews of the 1586th Special Squadron. It would not be surprising if it were not for the fact that this drop was the result of insubordination of Polish crews. Despite the intervention of the representatives of the Polish government with the British authorities, the action over the city was not approved by the deputy commander of the Mediterranean Allied Air Force (MAAF), marshal of aviation John  Slessor, who claimed that such flights are marked by a high risk (the route was 1,400 km long and led over the Adriatic, Yugoslavia and Hungary, where there was a strong anti-aircraft defense and base of night fighters), and in addition Warsaw is in the operational zone of the Red Army and it is Soviet aviation that should support the insurgents www.polska1918-89.pl/pdf/zrzuty-dla-powstania,1797.pdf

3:35 Yes, indeed, it would be foolish from Soviet perspective, if they weren't liberators... Ah, but the essential question for Russians is, "were they liberators, as they claim, or just a third party to the conflict?" They claim to be liberators... who just a week ago have pompously celebrated the anniversary of liberating a dead ruin and were outraged Poland doesn't celebrate with them. About the same time Paris revolted, and Allies, although it ruined their plans and they weren't fond of the French aspirations in general, dropped everything and rushed to help.
@Mira-K
@Mira-K 4 жыл бұрын
@Tom Fury Soviet radio was calling the Poles to rise up, that's first. Second, so reestabilishing a free state fighting common enemy is somehow directed against the "liberator"? I thought that's the very definition of the word... Third, even if I'm willing to accept that there were valid logistical reasons for halt of Red Army's advance: banning allied aircrafts from landing on soviet airports and destroying Polish resistance units from Eastern Poland heading to support Warsaw is nothing short of proof that Soviets put greater priority on subjugating Poland than on driving the Germans out of it. Such "liberators". If the USA liberated France the same way Soviets did Poland, de Gaulle would die in Alcatraz for "collaboration with Nazis" and Paris would be a pile of rubble instead of world's cultural capital.

Stalin himself admitted that it was the surety of lend lease that allowed the Soviets to stop the Germans in the suburbs of Moscow. You can whine all day about the number of Soviet soldiers that died fighting the Germans, it's not the Allies' fault that the Soviets were lousy soldiers with lousy equipment lead by mostly lousy officers and commanded by a supreme leader that didn't care how may he killed. “...an SS brigade comprised of released violent criminals...” Dirlewanger Brigade video please? It’ll be bordering the realm of DEMONETIZATION but you’d be the first channel that’s actually good or known to cover them. Literally the single German military unit that got most of the bad rap for the rest of the SS. Other SS quite literally hated these guys because of how brutal and depraved they were. Anyway, awesome video. The quality has definitely been going up.

"The rest of the ss hated these guys because of how brutal and depraved they were" They were a group comprised of war criminals and murderers who rounded up civilians and organized mass shootings regularly. I doubt there is anything that anyone could do to be hated by the ss unless you were born polish or Jewish.

I'm new here, and i like it there, subscribed :D. Honestly, your videos are educational and funny and the Warsaw Uprising is something, that everyone should know about. Poles are great nation and this is sad part of their history, but it shows, that the will of those polish people was really strong and they wanted to help the country and the allies. Big respect to the people that were fighting for their city and against the nazis. Sending Greetings from Czech Republic.
