My beloved Quarz 35mm beater watch, the Casio edifice 110d (also available in40mm the 100d) (similar case to the Seiko sarb033, but more sporty hands, beautiful sunburst dial, screw down crown and caseback, water resistance of 100m, nice small clasp, completely foldable endlinks and available in black/dark grey, white/offwhite and blue. It will be on my wrist for quite some time to come and the price is unbeatable. And it sits on your wrist like no other watch, more comfortable than for example the Seiko 5s (Bought it after an review of „the slender wrist“, great video)

My favourite quartz is my Seiko SUP880. Daily, I wear mechanicals, but I have a slight issue in that I am a pianist and when I work, it upsets my mechanical watches. It often makes them run fast. So, I wear the beautiful Seiko for the gig, but when I get home, it’s straight back to the mechanicals for me!

Hi Teddy. Thx for this review. Yes, I own a Quartz watch. It’s a Timex 1973 one that I bought on eBay. I love that watch more for its age then it’s accuracy and believe me it’s bloody accurate! I use it mainly on Sundays when I attend Sunday Mass. However, face it, most of us Watch Nerds love our Mechanical watches! And I use my Mechanical watches 90 of the time. There’s nothing like winding your watch up at night or doing the Seiko ‘shuffle’ before bed! 😉

evolved from mechanical to quartz because I like a watch that tells the time! Current watch is $85 Seiko with 7n43 movement, better than two seconds per day. Basically I set it twice a year going from standard to daylight savings time and back and that's it! Five years, second battery, still accurate. For soon to be less than ten cents per day cost, I'm as close to a HAQ watch as I will ever need to be (and the watch looks good, too!).

If you can afford a little more, I'd suggest getting the Orient Mako USA II... they made huge improvements to the "USA" version. Biggest for me is a Sapphire crystal! They are bullet proof when it comes to scratches, other than that I think the only other 2 upgrades to the USA model is solid end links on the bracelet and extras bright lume!

Another home-run Bro. Teddy...great content; well-delivered. I have several Seiko quartz pieces, Casio and a Philip Stein left to me by a buddy when he passed. That said, mechanicals are my personal favorite because of the craftsmanship they represent, but my Citizen eco-watch is the most accurate in my herd. Next purchase is the Seiko orange monster & adorn it w/ a black & orange nato strap. Peace. Be well.

I actually do own several Quartz watches from the 70s, 80s and 90s, i don't wear that often, but i do keep them for their sentimental value. My favorite quartz watches from my collection has to be the Zenith Movado Museum watch (looks like a two tone Royal Oak, but thinner), the Rado Gold Quartz, and the Seiko World Timer Chronograph.

Hey Teddy ... 2 years ago, I stopped at a neighborhood drug store 3 days after Christmas. I needed a bottle of shampoo, but, on the way to pay for it, I saw a display of after Christmas items. In that display was a Timex quartz marked down to $9.99. I picked it up and payed and went to my car. For 2 years now it has been my everyday watch ... thru snowblowing, raking leaves, cutting trees with a chainsaw and the list goes on. Kinda tough beating a under $10.00 dollar watch that is still running and has not had the time adjusted for 2 years and is still "spot-on".

I have been buying and selling pocket and wrist watches since the mid 1970's (now retired). I'm fascinated with the GREAT innovations by Sieko, Casio, and Citizen. The "Roller Coast Survival Drama" of the mechanical watch is fascinating. I still selectively buy mechanical watches but prefer quartz now. *An Opinion* Electric watches from 1965 to 1975 are an underappreciated and undervalued collectible. Electric was the bridge between mechanical and quartz - a fascinating history.

Great video Teddy! Citizen, Seiko, and Casio still continue to disrupt the automatic watch industry. So much so that automatics have to be reinvented as pieces of history and art. I agree that they are beautiful but I disagree with those that say that they are more expertly crafted than quartz watches. Most automatics are mass-produced (including Rolex) and automatics are nowhere near as accurate and low maintenance as quartz. Quartz, for me is awesome due to the scientific aspect and the progress it represents. Quartz regulation of watches reminds me of kyber crystals in Star Wars lightsabers. I’m definitely a bit of a nerdy one though! Then again, all watch enthusiasts kind of are 😂😂😂 Don’t get me wrong, I like automatics but I personally wouldn’t buy one unless it had a see thru case back or open heart design so I could see the mechanics at work. I absolutely love my Seiko Presage honeycomb dial!

Do you think it’s acceptable now for a collector to have both quartz and automatics since both are now going strong? I see a lot of watches by well known Swiss and German manufacturers that have a quartz and an automatic version of the same watch. Obviously a quartz doesn’t have the same mechanical “soul” as an automatic, but If you love the look, feel, and brand, does it really matter as much? I don’t want to sound naive, but I’m still learning about all this stuff. Great video! I already signed up for your online store.

I bought a Lorus Tri-lum solar maybe 26 years ago. It has a capacitor with an eighty year projected lifespan. Runs perfectly, 100m water resistant, luminous dial, 16s fast per month, date, low charge indicator. I’ve owned and flipped SKX, Alpinist, GW5000, Fortis, Zenith etc but I’ve kept the humble Lorus. Domed crystal a bit scratched and some brass showing through the chrome in a few places but it’s ok, l like it.

add solar power and receiving atomic time calibration to a quartz watch, and you got yourself a winning deal, a watch that always has power provided it gets exposed to light source, and accuracy every time it gets an update from the atomic time signal. The Casio Lineage line of watches can provide these wonderful features.

No doubt you're right about quartz, but no one examines the effect of the end of the Breton Woods Agreement, which effectively triples the value of the Swiss Franc vs the US dollar, the end of the Breton Woods Agreement and the subsequent oil shock on their own account would have ravaged the Swiss watch industry, quartz certainly gave it a kicking too without Breton Woods the opportunity for quartz is much much smaller.

I think right now, mechanical watches are more popular than ever due to the fact that people don’t just rely on their wristwatch for accuracy of time anymore, our smartphone provides that. Wristwatches become sort of like fashion item, where looks and history matter more rather than just plain accuracy.

I own several quartz watches. My favorites are a Longines VHP Perpetual, from the 90's and an Omega Constellation day-date, with a 262Khz movement. Stunning pieces both of them.

Yes, there are certain quartz movements that are impressive in their own right. I own an Ecodrive caliber 2100, a Bulova hi freq Accutron II Chrono and a 1983 Seiko 7S chronograph and I’m the original owner for all of these. Outstanding watches!

In a case of if you can't beat em, join em, Helbros used Swiss made cases and Japanese quartz movements. Those still show up on eBay. I don't wear any quartz now, but I did have a couple Tags that were running fine 10-25 years later except for a slow moving date wheel on the oldest one. Also, unless you're willing to pressure test dive watches yourself now when changing the batteries, most places will send these out and charge extra. My local jewelry store went from $8 to $80 to do this over the last 5 years. It now just makes more sense to buy a mechanical dive watch and get it serviced if/when needed (which can easily stretch 10-20 years now), especially when one considers the huge dump in resell value that any quartz watch will take.

Fascinating. I have mostly mechanical Rolexes but included in the collection are three Oysterquartz (models 17000, 17013 and 19018). They only made a few, and I plan to pick up others - next probably a 17014.

Although I own a mechanical watch, my favorite is the Casio "Duro", just because it is to the day (!) one of only three watches that I haven´t broken on the job.

The Casio Oceanus OCW-S100-1AJF is my favorite quartz watch. Atomic sync, solar power, world time function, sapphire crystal, full titanium case and bracelet, and sort of like a sportier Grand Seiko-ish appearance. It may not have "horological pedigree", but it hits an awful lot of high notes as a functional, versatile piece. If I were a rational person, it would easily be my only watch.

I have a Nite Alpha watch which is from my home town in Christchurch, U.K. It has a Swiss Ronda 715Li movement and Tritium GTLS illumination and it's a great watch. Other than my G-Shock, all the rest of my watches are mechanical.

The only quartz watch I own is the Sinn UX and that is because i geek out over the oil filled engineering if the watch. Outside of that, I enjoy winding my watches before putting them on an I appreciate that mechanical watches have for heirloom qualities so I can pass then down to my children.

The same thing happened in my industry. People flocked to electronic computers when they came out, but for my money, nothing beats the craftsmanship of a mechanical computer.

Very interesting video. However, as you were describing the ascension of Swatch in the 80s (I owned 3!), you kept showing pics of classic watches. Would’ve been nice to see pics of classic 80s Swatches at that point. Just a thought.
