Waxeye , Silvereye , Tauhou , (Zosterops lateralis)
These little guys have been absent from my garden for months but the onset of winter has seen them return . They are sharing the sugar water feed with the tuis and bellbirds and occasional sparrow .
Filmed with Canon SX60HS .
Edited and produced with Cyberlink Powerdirector 15 .

The common name for this bird is wax-eye or silver- eye , the Maori name is tauhou which means "stranger" or "new arrival" . And the Latin name is Zosterops lateralis . I'm very pleased that you are enjoying my channel . Thank you very much for watching 🙂 !

Been checking out some of your other videos Tony, I must say well done mate. Great to hear these bird songs. I mainly got your common birds, Starlings, sparrows, blackbird etc, BORING!!! Trying to convince Bellbird to hang around so I've been blasting portable blue tooth speaker with one of your videos, neighbor's must be wondering were the hell all these bird songs are coming from ha haha 🤣. Australia and New Zealand in the south west Pacific . They arrived here in New Zealand from Australia in the 1850,s and have become one of our most abundant and widespread bird species .

Great footage as always! How did you make the feeder? Is that a lemon squeezer on the bottom? I also heard seagulls... where is that beautiful spot?

Hi Andy H . The feeder is actually a poultry drinker I bought off trade me . I think it cost less than ten dollars . I bought it because the poor waxeyes beaks were too short to drink from the little holes in my nectar feeder ! The seagulls you can hear in the background were feasting on krill that had stranded that day .... I am in Purakaunui in the sunny south :) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gptmdZx215fGd40.html

Do the males get very red feathers on the breast in the breading session.

They may get slightly redder in the breeding season but I haven't really noticed it . The male does have slightly brighter color than the female .
