I remember before this came out someone was saying, "I'm gonna get the Kinect! It has NO controller!" And I was thinking "NOOOOOOO! YOU HAVE TO HAVE A CONTROLLER! IT'S IMPOSSIBLE WITHOUT!" Ah, the good old days.

I love how people think when they come onto a video that explains how a complex video games system works there won't be any 'big nerdy words' in it. Seriously people, it's common sense. This was a very informative and entertaining video. :3

got to admit - the Kinect doesn't excite me as a video game tool - but I'm still really impressed with all the technology behind it - the majority of which I didn't realise until watching this video - so many thanks to you mr graywolf person :)

During the early-mid 90's, there were games that on the surface looked similar (but more primitive) in the arcade, where you would stand in front of a camera, and it would read your position in the room, and let you interact with the games. Did these use a similar basic system? (They did of course not calculate your skeletal structure, simply your position relative to the camera(s?)).

CONT: and can use that for things that are unintended by the user like sending marketing blurgs, ads on your computer/ip address, or some robber hard pressed on revenge/murder or stealing stuff. Thats why even if I own an X360, I will never buy or even play a Kinect. Hell, this stuff was why we have people making accesories for the Kinect for this one distinct purpose. I just hope Sony doesnt improve their form of spyware on the Vita to do the same as the Kinect.

and also how Windows 8 is made for tablets and touchscreens, even though laptops and desktops WITHOUT any sort of touch interface are being sold with it... and let's not even mention the fact that a little while back, Windows 7 (and also 8 i believe, don't quote me on this) had an update that replaced your video card driver with a generic Microsoft one, and (depending on how incompatible with your video card it was) would to FORCE you to do a system restore, or re-install...

Although I admit that the Kinect is a fairly interesting device, I disagree with it being a 'revolution' or a 'breakthrough'. Considering that Sony came out with the Playstation Eye a couple years ago, which worked on the same principles as the Kinect. It sold terribly, but was, in fact, what the Kinect is. I hope at some point the fans realize this and start calling the kinect something that pays tribute to the Eye.

Again. As is with the Move, there's a delay in reading input. This kills any chance of playing any real games and hardcore gamers won't really care about anything like this. I mean, when certain gamers nitpick about sub 100 ms response times, the Kinect's obviously perceptible delay makes it useless.
