I can't say enough how refreshing it is that this series gave Stede and Mary actual closure and didn't just write her off as some bitchy or irredeemable woman he didn't get along with. They both recognize why they couldn't work and why they found love in other places, and they come together to find a solution that benefits them both.

yes! I love how the series showed that Stede's behavior was bad for the relationship too, and didn't just throw all guilt on Mary. They both had their reasons to act the way they did, and its amazing that they were allowed to have the time to actually talk and understand eachother, giving them both happy resolutions! This show has amazingly well written characters.

I feel like when Mary realized that Steed was gay, so many things he'd done became understandable. He wasn't just not trying. He never had the possibility of being really happy with her.

I feel like she always had a feeling, and she was happy that Stede was finally honest with her (and himself). I love that they ended up being able to set aside their very recent past indiscretions and become good friends in the end.

I am SO glad and impressed with the x wife!!! I was afraid she’d say “who?” When he said Ed, but she didn’t , she understood and hugged him!!!! 💖🥹

Honestly I think that’s what I love so much about it, same with shows like Bob’s burgers, Helluva Boss, and Rick and Morty. Absolutely off the wall just weird and dark humour that shouldn’t work but does mixed with these beautiful deeply meaningful moments and messages.

This scene and their closure makes me cry it feels like in so many stories it relies on miscommunication and the characters never actually having a conversation so it’s so refreshing to see people talk like adults and solve their problems both of their stories come to such a beautiful end (atleast I hope steade’s does we will see) but they’re both hopeful for the future and that makes me so happy

I think this show did an awesome job with that. Miscommunication can definitely be entertaining in shows, but at the end of the day it's so satisfying when the characters finally get it right.

i love their solidarity from then forward. i think stede truly liked mary, just not romantically, and so he wants to see her happy with doug. mary now understands that while she was attempting to make the best of the shitty cards they were dealt, that simply couldn't work for stede, because he could never have a romantic interest in a woman. and since they understand each other better, she's willing to help him get back to his love, even if him leaving was the reason she was angry at him in the first place

Also, I think it’s good to remember that while people are products of their time, even back in the day people could still be loving and accepting. If it weren’t for the queer people and allies of the past we wouldn’t be where we are today. Humans are intelligent beings capable of acceptance no matter their time.

I mean it's not meant to be realistic it's vibes only, David Jenkins goes by the rule that it's only historically accurate if it's funny. But like the *most* accurate thing of the show is that pirates were very queer & it was far more accepted there than other areas of the time even if it was far from perfect
