Izzy is our unicorn and I'm so happy he got to shine! His arc is incredible this season.

Yeah I’m glad Izzy found his calling, he turns his misery into music, his pain into power, and I like that the show demonstrates how being queer helps the pirates express themselves freely, like drag.

Izzy's character development became my absolutely favorite and probably maybe more. He gets along with the crew he once hated and they accept and love him too 😭 He sounds FREE

Right? Like he is such an asshole but he’s our asshole. He’s so mean about everything but he’s so mean about it and such a sweet way. He just wanted to be a drag queen unicorn, that’s all he ever wanted to be. With that ever too much to ask? I don’t think so. This man singing has healed my ever being.

It's not just drag makeup. It's specifically an homage to Edith Piaf, who sang an original version. She wore her eyebrows like that.

Con kept insisting that this had to look beautiful, it was very important to him. And the eyebrows are very obvious, so they couldn't be evil eyebrows, or funny eyebrows. We settled on something quite soft, in the end, that he suggested, and he really liked them like this". I haven't seen anyone else who noticed it was an homage to Piaf and I'm so happy you caught it!

yes.. yes!!!! Izzy didn't need to die at all, he was the character with more growth without changing who he is. Ed and even Stede became somewhat toxic to eachother and the others but who they kill? My beloved Izzy.

@@iremofthepillarsit would be way better if Stede and Ed chose to stay behind to solve their problems and let Izzy take over as captain

I was sure his arc to regain the respect of the crew was leading to him taking charge and having a most loyal and welcoming team to do so with. Would have LOVED to have watched into season 3 and had the chance to witness Izzy getting the queer love his poor heart needs just as Ed and Stede did. And maybe pay a visit back to the inn to visit, he brings the crew to help them rebuild the inn, something like that. Ugh.

i would have loved if the season ended here. Ed and Stede basically finally showing their love to each other, the crew getting along with each other in a celebration, Izzy in his queer healing and earning the respect and love from the crew, freeing himself. Why did the season have to end like THAT instead?

Yeah every Broadway fan was waiting for a moment like this as soon as we saw Con O’Neill on screen in S1. It would have been a crime to NOT have him sing at some point.

And that the crew (whom he tormented and didn't even make amends with) loved Ed, instead of acknowledging they love Izzy because Izzy was the one who put in the effort to build a relationship with them. They brought back all of his self hatred and suicidal tendencies too. There's no funeral and they not only bury him on land but in Ed and Stede's front yard after ripping off his prosthetic to mark the grave. Somehow Jenkins maintains this was a "kind" ending.

And if you look closely in the background at :44, you will see that Wee John is cradling Izzy to his chest, while Izzy sings "when you hold me to your heart". There's a whole little sub-story, I think. Wee John does Izzy's makeup and gets his hand kissed, along with some cuddling while Izzy sings. I only wish that story had been able to last longer.

I think they're both saying they need to take things slow when they can't explain their own insecurities to the other. Stede still hasn't told Ed about the guilt he felt about abandoning his family or about the fight with Chauncey. He told Stede something that worries him a lot: ruining Blackbeard's life and reputation. When Chauncey told him that he had ruined the best pirate of this time, Stede couldn't return to Ed's side. The same goes for Ed. He doesn't know exactly what kind of life he wants and he worries that Stede will become a sadistic killer. Ed wants to be with Stede, but he hasn't told him that he loves him yet. Time is the excuse they both use to not talk more clearly about their feelings and insecurities, but here they let their feelings emerge, in part because they almost died a few minutes before.

Can't you admit that the character you love was a Nightmare? The man who loved him and the writers could.
