To be fair Empress Xiaoxian did better in managing the harem than Ruyi. Ruyi were too lacking in ambition and let everyone loosely, I mean she could have actively scheme against Ling before she killed everyone. She didn't care about losing his Majesty's favour. And she didn't really care about her position as Empress.

She went so far as to sentence her to death while they were on their southern tour. Jin Yuyan suffered numerous punishments for her obnoxious behavior too. Ruyi knew when enough was enough imo. During the reign of Empress Fuca, for the most part everyone was terrified of Gao Xiyue’s temper, and didn’t really cause a problem, Bai Ruiji being the exceptions, and look how it turned out for her. Poor Yi Pin too. Langhua let the troublemakers get away, and had it easier since they were all behind her.

@@my0majesty0el Meh, Langhua was actually laughable. She was so petty and small-minded, and hardly effective, she just had bitchy bloodhounds Gao and Jia do the work for her and her family backing. In fact, she seemed constantly at a loss, her own stupidity causing her children's deaths, and someone as silly as Mei managed to push her towards her death.

There is a lot of different aspects that are being told in the drama. The first shock is after when the First Empress had died. The Emperor misunderstands her and her son by suspecting that they have the intention of taking over the throne. ( which she didn't, it was the evil consort's trap. She was the one who told the Emperor that she had the intention. ). That's was the first shock and in reality in ancient times, when you lose the Emperor's attention you are basically being treated as a commoner. The food being treated will still be okay but elsewise it will be totally the same as a commoner. So like the early injury plus the outer treatment which can worsen her condition. These different aspects were all being addressed in the Drama.

I think it was years of stress and anxiety for both her and 3rd prince .. after wat happened They were always living on eggshells having to say and do the right things to stay on the emperors good side. It’s esp sad for 3rd to me anyway cause he doesn’t get why the emperor never sees anything good in what he says or does

Both Chun Lüyun & her son had lifelong lung disease with coughing up blood. This was in the 1700's & other characters had tuberculosis, so they may have too. They could have had some other chronic infectious lung disease, possibly fungal. Other possibilities include connective tissue & autoimmune diseases with inflammation of the small blood vessels in the lungs. Stress doesn't cause every disease.
