The Wedge War Club from www.Throwsticks.com was designed in collaboration with primitive hunter and martial artist, Matt Graham.
Based in an ancient Australian design known as the "Lil Lil," The Wedge is a practical modern survival multi-tool made from super tough modern materials. Useful for fighting, hunting, digging, climbing, clearing brush, foraging, and general destruction and mayhem. The Wedge is one tool that does it all.

Not to brag but since you have graciously granted me the opportunity..., I hit that watermelon on the 4th throw! The first 3 throws were very close misses. I had purchased 2 watermelons and the first one rolled off the target before I could throw at it, so I had no choice but to skewer that second one straight away...; which I promptly did! Very fun video to film! Benjamin Scott Throwsticks.com

@@Throwsticks hey out of curiosity, and because I like to write short stories. How well would a multi purpose design work in wood or cast aluminum
@Throwsticks
@Throwsticks 3 жыл бұрын
@@magicbeetle2292 Wood works great although it's fragile compared to this. Obviously it was used historically. You want the heaviest, hardest, toughest hardwood you can find. Stuff like ironwood, black wattle, boxwood, etc.... Some have successfully made aluminum throwsticks but the edges get dinged up and will cut the hands. Also, they may warp on an impact and not fly afterwards. Thicker material which is more rigid are thus much better. Benjamin Scott Throwsticks.com

Thanks for the compliment, I appreciate it. It's a challenge to fill all roles in my business but that's what small business is about. Obviously it was born out of my love for these ancient survival tools. It is on my to do list to make a much better demo video for our rabbit stick model, as its performance is much better than we demonstrate in the video we made for it in late 2016. Perhaps we could throw at a pumpkin or something with it. Throwsticks need to be thrown horizontally in order to produce proper lift and flight cycle so throwers adapt to that. Some models go in excess of 120 meter flight range! I hope you will enjoy our channel and check out the other videos if you haven't yet. Thanks for your kind comments. Benjamin Scott Throwsticks.com

A version made out of metal with an ax grind on the upper portion and/or the inner curve could be extremely handy. Fall wood, have blunt clubbing device, and a throwing weapon all in one. It’s always nice to have fewer things to keep the load light when trekking deep in the woods.

We've actually done experiments in steel. There's a whole lot to say about that since it's possible to do steel if thrown at super human velocities like out of a rail gun. There is a subsonic long ranged weapon utility there. The Wedge weighs about 12 ounces and it's tough to keep steel light enough to fly as well as issues with chipping and dinging into jagged results in ugly environments. Even the Aboriginals carried stone and later steel hatchets. Used them to make these among other purposes. Benjamin Scott www.Throwsticks.com

It does have a similar look to this but it is based in Australian inspiration from New South Wales in particular where the shape was higly refined and they actually fly. Google "Aboriginal Lil Lil" in an image search and you will see what I am describing. There are clubs in India and Fiji (the sali I believe it's called) as well as elsewhere, I am sure, which follow this similar pattern. The design has a unique balance which removes the shock of impacts from the hand on the leading edge and flows very naturally from the hand when thrown. Very nice balance! @@pedromiguel3227 I appreciate it. This design is particularly easy to throw accurately due to the balance. I hit the watermelon on the third or fourth attempt and the rabbits straight away. The cinder block took a few attempts but still went quickly. I hope you've also seen Beyond The Goals? It demonstrates ranges of 120+ meters. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mrRyhqmgyNO8nIk.html Ben

@@Throwsticks I promise I’m not trying to rope you into a “lonely KZfaq watcher needs a friend” conversation, but… I collect antique weapons and feel a connection to that old energy. I don’t have anything “primitive” but it’s fascinating to imagine what they could do in the hands of an expert. I once carved a modified Kaigata Suburito (Oar Shaped) bokken from a nice piece of camellia wood. I was inspired by the famous battle where Miyamoto Musashi killed the famous swordsman Sasaki Kojiro with a wooden sword (hastily carved from a wooden oar). Anyway… I think it’s awesome that you’re rediscovering these survival tools, and honing these skills to share with curious people like me. I wish there were more people practicing exploratory archaic weapons anthropology. My wife and kids think I’m peculiar, but that’s alright. My next project will be an Iroquois ball-headed war club.

@@pedromiguel3227 You're good, mate. Thanks for sharing your story. You're a part of the tribe and I feel the same way. These things are in our ancient, primal blood and some of us know it inside. Some of the artifacts I've handed have wood so hard it feels and weighs like stone. It's the reason our shoulders are wide. At least it was for a very long time in history. I hope you enjoy the ball headed war club project! Benjamin Scott Throwsticks.com

What type of wood would this be made from? Has to be hard and durable which makes it hard to shape, I guess.

We manufacture these from high impact, opaque black polycarbonate. The material is extremely tough and beautiful once finished. Each piece is hand carved to shape, not cast. Everything is made in the USA in our famiily fun shop. Thanks for your question. Benjamin Scott - www.Throwsticks.com

Great War club. I like the native american ball with spike war club. The one you have looks like the one that native made out of a rifle butt stock

Yes it is similar to that in form, isn't it? This basic form is found in India, Fiji, America, Australia and probably elsewhere as well. It's only in Australia that it was designed to also fly as this one does. Google "Aboriginal Lil Lil" and you'll see the Australian forms. The ball head wc is a beast! Also a fan! I'm not positive, but I think that the "rabbit leg" war club design actually predates European contact. The fact that it resembles a stock is coincidental. I didn't double check, but that's what I have been told, so I could be wrong. The boat paddle club is also impressive. Thanks for bringing that up. I used to be really interested in war clubs. I may have to geek out on some research before I go to sleep.

@@letsdothis9063 Yeah let me know what you find. Did you see the Fiji Sali? It has a protrusion like a hammer on the gun stock portion. I can tell you from experience that these are just damn good weapons in terms of balance and feel. The balance runs through the wrist. I really have always wondered whether the shape was coincidental or not.

@Throwsticks

Yes absolutely. Thanks for the question. Like any airfoil, the upper surface must be curved to produce lift and the lower surface flat or nearly flat to not bleed off direct lift. On throwsticks a flat lower surface also provides the stability that keeps the stick stabilized and alignment after released. The carvings on the upper surface act as turbulators to reduce drag and keep airflow attached. Benjamin Scott www.Throwsticks.com

Can you treat your karli model like this ? Would the material break hitting hard wood trees?
@Throwsticks
@Throwsticks Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. Both models are made from the same, premium, super tough material, which is many times stronger than any hard wood. It is a semi-rigid material and it can break, but it is very rare to have this happen short of extended abuse. We don't recommend abusing sticks like we are doing in the video, however, the stick in the video is still in one piece and I still use it! We've had reports of a few Karli's breaking out of the many hundreds we've sold, and it's always in extreme use or due to someone spray painting the stick and chemically damaging it as a result. For use in forested environments we typically prefer the Wedge, the Whale's Tail and the Stinger because those models have weight distributions which allow them to handle the extra impacts which would occur. They also have slightly shorter ranges than the Karli, which is nice in the more closed in spaces. Benjamin Scott Throwsticks.com
