The nuns of Benedictine have officially made a statement on his speech saying that they and the founders of the college itself do not align with his views. They spoke really succintly and strongly against his points. Also, imagine how offensive this is not just to the female students but the nun founders and staff!!! Women who have sworn a vow of celibacy and sought a calling not involving childbearing or marriage!!! I kind of hoped his take was due to brain damage from being a footballer and not his actual beliefs, but now that I know he doesn't get tackled... OOF. I am glad that the female students at least have their mentors and University backing them in this, it's really gross and sad.

@@david-dj8or - Benedictine Nuns are a different type of nun. I have no use for religion as it’s done a lot of harm, but respect the Benedictine nuns. I’m fairly certain, the primary college Order and the other Orders making statements are doing so freely. They’re known as the “Rebel Nuns” or “Liberal Nuns”. They’re against blind obedience and have defied Vatican orders on more than one occasion. Pro-feminism, pro-education, pro- social reform, got rid of exclusively male pronouns in their prayer books, praying to “Creator, Redeemer and Sanctifier” instead of “Father, Son, Holy Spirit”. They run various things in their communities like: job-training programs, soup kitchen, children’s feeding and sports programs, neighborhood art center, low-income housing for seniors and the disabled, environmental education centers and summer camps. Google Sister Joan Chittister and see some of the things she’s said and done.

@DebM883 ай бұрын
Anything that gives women power over how and when they reproduce or opens up new choices for their professional lives is a threat to them . They justify their disdain for IVF with other reasons but I would bet my right arm, what hides behind it is the need to control women's reproductive rights and option to have a career without having to worry about fertility issues in your 30's. They don't just want to tell women that all they were born for and all that matters for their lives is to become mothers , but they also want them to feel like a career is not an option because they will "burn through" their fertile years and risk not being able to conceive should they want to. IVF gives women the option to do both, which means, more freedom and time to expand professionally, build strong careers and be more economically independent.

what is the issue with IVF and surrogacy? Most people who go through with that have some medical issue that prevents them from having a baby normally they're going after helpful procedures that would harm straight people the most just to own a few celebrities and gay couples on social media
@andrewkoster65063 ай бұрын
the issue is that these people have brainworms, and the brainworms are telling them that all reproductive health care is "abortion" and that "abortion" is bad
@arwenstrong28183 ай бұрын
It's not to prevent gay people from adopting. They believe that every IVF embryo created is a literal child who deserves gestation. I don't agree, but it's their religious belief, not hated of gays.

A private Catholic school doesn’t mean everyone’s beliefs are the same. As a born and raised Catholic, I’ve seen first hand how much variety there is in the belief set. Aside from that, it commencement. It’s still not time to go on a rant about abortion and gay pride.

The Vatican does not stand with his sentiments. The Pope will not tell you that women, even mothers, should not work outside of the home. Pope Francis also recently released a statement blessing same-sex civil unions. Catholicism has a long way to go before they're progressive, but don't lump 'em all in with the crazy Evangelicals. This dude doesn't speak for the Catholic church and, as a Catholic-turned-atheist, in my experience many people in the church don't align with him.

This is wildly inappropriate of him, and as a woman who graduated shortly after covid and recently was diagnosed with PCOS, I was personally hurt by him throwing shade towards IVF and surrogacy as those may be the only option for my husband and I for starting a family (we are planning to adopt for sure but also want to try having a genetic descendant) and I believe in the Bible. This seems like an overzealous young man who hasn't yet been tempered by life and loss and maturity. I wouldn't ask him for life advice or Bible advice or otherwise. 🙄 Also, a dear friend who was like a brother recently passed and my first tattoo will be one I custom design for myself, my husband, my best friend (deceased's fiance), and her brother in memorial of him as the 4 of us were there during his tragic and unexpected passing (that could have and should have been prevented as he was at the hospital mere hours before). So the schpeal about tattoos making you a damaged woman is absolute garbage. And my hardcore Christian 65 y/o mom (bio aunt, took the role of mom in my life since my teens) agrees!! She loves our tattoo idea and doesn't think they're a bad sign or judgement worthy at all!! This guy sounds incredibly legalistic. Lastly, I'm all for celebrating motherhood. Having a good mother vs a bad one or lackthereof is permanently life changing. As someone whose biomom was like a jealous sister or evil stepmom I know this firsthand. If my aunt hadn't stepped in as a mom to me I don't think I'd be alive today. But motherhood and education/work are not mutually exclusive! 🙄 Again, he's so out of touch, legalistic, and immature.

The occasion makes this speech a series of insults that can easily hit below the belt. Besides stating that all female students have completely wasted their time, money, life plans by daring to enter the male domain of a university. There are students who had to get abortions because they were in the middle of studying, there was no father, etc. Maybe someone’s grandparents or parents are suffering - maybe their health has deteriorated through the pandemic- where euthanasia has become a solution that’s being discussed. Incredibly tasteless and self centred. Would probably get on well with the vegan teacher.
