More teams should "freeze" a number worn by someone who has done great things for a club, but still leave it open for a player worthy of wearing it. Also leagues should let teams retire jerseys as they wish, I literally see no reason why

I know that you said djurgården and Aik And I’m Swedish but a Hammarby If fan And when we announce the starting XI we go in number order and on the screen we show pictures of the players and when number 12 comes it says the fans but in Swedish and a picture of all of us fans We aren’t winning a lot of trophy as we only have won 2 trophies in our 124 year history It’s still an amazing atmosphere and we have the 2nd biggest stadium in the league the biggest One is Aik the national arena for the Swedish national team It’s nice to support smaller teams as well even if you don’t always win

I understand the point of this but how is retiring the most wanted jersey in one of the greatest clubs in the world a sign of respect? How are they respecting him when In this way they have no respect for the number 10 and all the young guys and potential great players who want to wear it some day. It's something very unnecessary and if you are using logic instead of biased opinion based on the legacy of the player this shouldn't happen at all. Props to Barca for not doing it and it just pathetic to see all the hypocritical *Barca* fans showing that they aren't Barca but Messi fans. Everyone knows who Messi is and he is already a big part of Barca's history and most likely their greatest ever player. His records will be in the clubs history forever. Neither Messi or the club itself need to retire the 10 number.

I hate retiring numbers ..it is so inconsiderate to the young players aspiring to be the next Maradona at Napoli or the next Maldini at AC Milan by wearing their number...if you want to honour a player build him a statue. You can't and shouldn't retire numbers in football/soccer because the numbers are positional (based on which position the player plays)

I dont understand the fuss over retiring jersey number. I am a team oriented football fan and not player oriented football fan.
