In this episode I am joined by Siân Esther Powell, aka Celtic_Siân, who is a museum professional and mythology enthusiast from Cornwall. We discuss the enchantment of Celtic myths and legends, and how they help us connect to our local landscape. We also discuss the ways in which Pagans and Witches might perceive myths and legends differently to academics and scholars, and how we can sometimes bump heads because of that. Beyond this, Siân and I also delve into the concept of "gatekeeping" our cultural traditions, and we wax lyrically about our upbringing in a Celtic nation throughout.

Absolutely loved listening. I have cornish heritage and ancestry going back to the 1500's. My great grandfather came from cornwall to south wales in 1900s as an 11 year old boy. I feel deep connection to Wales and cornwall. I was lucky to spend 2 summers in cornwall. It enchanted me. I feel really happy to have welsh and cornish ancestors 💎

I really appreciate you guys talking about people who may reside on stolen land and who don't really have a sense of identity - as someone who is an American and who doesn't feel right trying to connect to the land here (because it's not ancestral to me, and there are still native tribes around the area), it's hard to have a sense of place. My ancestry is Irish, they came here during the potato famine, so we're not exactly Irish, but we're also not American in the sense of being native to this place? So where do we belong? It's (at least for me) a difficult and confusing thing to try to understand. Especially since with our working culture here, many Americans never even get the opportunity to visit the places they may have ancestry from, so we're kinda in a liminal place in that way. But I also agree with what you guys are saying about being able to conserve the culture and traditions and keep stuff like facism and white supremacy out of those circles. Also, I'm so drawn to the Welsh myths and legends and folklore and I don't know why, but here I am anyway, and I hope that I can someday visit the places that I've read and learned about. In the meantime, I will do my best to learn about the culture, lore, landscape and language of Wales so that I can be as respectful and knowledgeable as possible! I loved this, and I think all of your questions and discussions are always so insightful and interesting. Thank you for doing these!

I’m Welsh, I’ve had My DNA test & I feel sick that I’m 12% English!!! But I’m 73% Welsh Irish & Scottish & Baltic states so I don’t feel too bad!!!Great work Mhara 👌🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿👌
