C.J: "I'm feeling a little over-interpreted.... Am I wrong to want to set the record straight.... I'm a heterosexual -- and I don't know why I just said that except that as of this morning I'm... apparently. the most powerful lesbian on the planet when the fact of the matter is I'm... absolutely crazy about this particular man I just met and had two fabulous dinners with in the space of one week. A man who hasn't had the courtesy to call me today probably because he's simply of the undependable gender or, come to think of it, maybe he has even less of an idea of how to deal with my alleged and fictitious lesbianism than I do. So he'll just... drift away like the legion of other cowards for whom I spent my young life staring at the phone like an exquisite collie hoping for table scraps until I became successful and suddenly I started to scare them -- scare them with the very independence they required me to have, so that now I'm looking at some bad numbers, really rough stuff if you know what I'm talking about."

If you have a CJ Cregg in your life, don't let her feel unappreciated.

I just keep watching WW clips on KZfaq. The actors were so great and the dialog (in this case monologue :) ) was always amazing. I love Leo's expression as CJ has her meltdown.

Leo be like: "That's my girl." I just love Jed and Leo's reactions to their adoptive West Wing children and their worldly problems as civilians, oh like Charlie's tax returns or the butterball hotline and this, CJ's relationship problems.

For a second I thought, "That's probably how I'm gonna end up." But then I was like, "Nah, I'll never be that successful." Overthinking is something me and CJ have in common.

Bradley Whitford (Josh) wrote this ...and he was an neophyte to writing. Awesome!

Not only could Aaron Sorkin write a fast script but the actors could deliver it without fail.

What does Leo say at the end of CJ's monologue? I got something about "So, you want to send something down to me?" But I can't make out what he's asking for.

If you're so succesful and independent, what's wrong with taking the initiative and calling him? Instead of just bashing his entire gender

Standard behavior, universally used by most men,...make her wait - at least three days - before you call her.

you can tell that a writer who is not Sorkin is trying to write like Sorkin

I say again, I love the dialog. But Sorkin expects characters to talk like 1930's movies...FFFFFAST. I find it unrealistic and slightly annoying. (BTW - I realize that Sorkin had left the show by now...but his influence was obviously keenly felt in the writing/directing). And please save the 'that's how brilliant people speak' nonsense. I have known lots of VERY smart people (my brother has a degree in Physics from Cal Berkeley for one) and most do NOT talk REALLY fast. They probably could - but they don't.

I don’t think anyone calls Sorkin dialogue realistic, but that’s why we love it. It’s an elevated, stylized form of dialogue that is written in such a way that even the most mundane things feel smart and important. It’s not meant to reflect real life, it’s meant to be it’s own thing. Sorkin said he thinks of dialogue as music. His earliest inspiration for writing came from his parents taking him to watch the play “who’s afraid of Virginia woolfe.” He had no idea what was being talked about, but he felt the words had a flow and rhythm to them that he fell in love with. He’s been working to produce dialogue as such ever since. I personally consider Aaron Sorkin my favorite dialogue writer, and it’s specifically because of his stylized way of writing.

@@tadtranclere3729 Fine - you like it. I find it unrealistic. So you don't want reality - you want fantasy. You want to escape. I think it sounds a bit silly. What is the point in having a serious, political show where everyone - and I mean EVERYONE - talks like they are on cocaine? Take the old Brit series Yes Minister/Yes, Prime Minister? A brilliant show about politics. It was hilarious and very interesting - but the dialog was realistic. Not 'musical'. But - each to his/her own. And I little advice - you speak for only yourself, as do I. Throwing 'we' into a discussion/debate to try and give your point more weight just makes your point look weaker, IMO. No offense intended. Good day.

Sorkin is a playwright at heart, and even more than that, he strives for a musicality of his dialog. He composed his scripts. In this scene, we have long-time Sorkin player Brad Whitford attempting to mimic that musicality, in the first script he'd ever written. To be honest, he's striving and not quite succeeding here - he's adding complexity for its own sake, it feels.

How did you make it to S7 if you hate pace of this dialogue. Honestly your sour attitude on the matter really shits on plps enjoyment. You dont enjoy it dont watch it, or least dont go on and on about how terrible you found the writing.
