Same here, some amazing moments and also some head scratching ones as well. I think they did great with this moment for sure. The visual medium is so different. Just Min saying that she saw a baby that was "impossible". In episode 5 Rand is looking at the Karaethon Cycle in the library/books shop, which are the prophecies of the Dragon, but they don't explain it in the show and Moiraine treats all of them as very unreliable. How are people praising this as a "great reveal"? It's absolutely terrible and objectively makes no sense. Moiraine specifically says that you cannot trust anything Machin Shin says, yet her and Rand instantly believe he's the Dragon Reborn just because Machin Shin said so. And that's not to mention how the few hints and indications that Rand is the Dragon Reborn are only shown to us AFTER the reveal. You literally can't even say "oh yeah, the hints add up!" like you SHOULD be able to, because none of the hints were even shown to us until the plot twist had already happened. It's literally lesson 101 in how NOT to write a plot twist. And then him being the Dragon Reborn amounts to nothing anyway, and he is completely overshadowed in the final episode by having his epic demonstration of power given to other characters. Why is the Dragon Reborn even necessary if five untrained women can take out up to 20'000 trollocs on their own in a matter of seconds? (Which also makes no sense considering how, earlier in the show, seven fully trained Aes Sedai struggled so much against maybe a couple of hundred soldiers.) This is a mess, and you have to be deluding yourself to think otherwise. Robert Jordan's books deserved so much better.
@lildrewZ2 жыл бұрын
As someone who loves Brandon Sanderson, but has yet to dive into the Wheel of Time, I had the same thoughts related to Machin Shin. As a viewer, all I could think at the time was "oh, well Rand is clearly being lied to because this is Machin Shin after all!". So that moment actually did not jell with me either no matter how dramatic/epic they made the "reveal" out to be. I watched Brandon's Season One discussion on his podcast and it was here I learned that Rand was the one who was supposed to showcase his power on the Trollocs, so I'm with you here.

@@EternalMariam Rand doesn't kill all those trollocs either in the book though. Many just run after he starts to attack and the Fal Dara army takes care of the rest. He was also crazy overpowered at the Eye, unlike the circle in the show. Regarding the comments wars... well, the adaptations are never TOTALLY faithful to the books. Even authors like Crichton who were almost writing scripts at times saw changes to their work. So there are the people who realize this is going to happen and live with it because they love the material and characters, the people who realize this is going to happen but don't like the changes, and the people who can't stand the fact that the books got changed and constantly feel the need to complain that such-and-such was different in the book. Now that you know who the Dragon is, Robert Jordan always wrote two things, which the saga relies on: 1) There were 3 ta'veren in Two Rivers (Rand, Mat, Perrin). Egwene was NOT a ta'veren in the books. But she may as well be, for the things she'll accomplish; 2) The Dragon can only be MALE. Now, I don't know wether they made it possible for the Dragon to be female and shattered in five different bodies for politically correct or to make the mistery bigger (in the books you get it's Rand as soon as they leave Emond's Field). Perhaps the both of them.
