When I 1st heard Eminence Front by The Who was an Episode of Miami Vice called Killshot their on Don Johnson aka Sonny Crockett's boat making a 2 key drug deal. Crockett's cop buddy's r undercover waiting on Crockett's word, then when he says the word then the cops start shooting n the fireworks start to happen. Then Crockett starts his fast boat then rides away from his cop buddies as they chase him n the drug dealer in their boat as they hide n try to make a set up meeting with a drug cartel. Then he drop's off the dealer in the water n takes off on his boat. I also heard this song on a AWA American Wrestling Association promo intro. This would be a great intro song for wrestling or boxing. U need to a reaction to Won't get fooled again n Roger Daltrey's After The Fire. Ty, checkout that Miami Vice episode of Killshot n listen to the music. Thanks again to put good music.

Love the long intro, which of course, was one of the things they were really good at! Makes me nostalgic for "Miami Vice", which was also really GOOD Cheese! Lyrics still just as appropriate today, as they were when this song came out! It's about money, power, and politics, and escapism. "Come on, join 'The Party', dressed to kill Dress yourself to kill!" I just LOVE it when you delve into the lyrics!!!! ;)

Yeah, I'm a few months out from published date to comment. But, I'm working my way from oldest to newest (except for those being uploaded since I found the channel). This song is far from a favorite of mine. But, I wanted to say, I think this reaction is my favorite so far. Your interpretation of the song meaning, the music, and how it fit in to the times is spot on in this one. Now, I'm sure you know Pinball Wizard. But have you experienced the rock opera Tommy in one go yet? The album is far superior, but the movie is worth a viewing, if only for Elton John and Tina Turner.

The Who billed themselves as "Maximum R & B" in their early years. Check out the linked concert poster, below. The Brits in general have a deep affection for black American music, as evidenced by the plethora of blues-based guitarists eminating from Britain. But white boys, as you reflected from your daydream about Earth, Wind & Fire, don't really bring the same funky feel to their interpretation of bluesy, funky songs, and The Who was no exception to that general rule (Listen to something by The Average White Band for an exception to that rule). The Who added a passel of white British working class anger to their music, a feeling Pete Townsend expanded upon in their magnus opus, Quadraphenia. When The Who were at the height of their powers, there was a feeling in the rock community that live performances should sound much different than the studio albums. The Cream produced "Wheels of Fire", the Yes released the triple-album live "Yessongs". The Who released "Live at Leeds". They all contained points where the bands strayed far off the path beaten by their studio versions and produced moments of beauty and excitement on vinyl the likes of which we may never see again. To fully appreciate their white-boy version of blues seething with anger, I'd suggest reacting to "Young Man Blues" from the Live at Leeds recording. Here's a link: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b81jY9GoqNbdkXU.html www.panicposters.com/who-maximum-randb-poster.html

It's been YEARS since I last hear this song. In the 80’s there was this promotion called "The Columbia Record and Tape Club" where you could get 12 albums or cassettes for a penny. Being in junior high and very naive and impulsive, I joined. I loved the song Eminence Front so this album was one that I purchased. Unfortunately, I didn't get into it and EF was pretty much the only song I’d listen to. For you nostalgic types, I’m going to try to remember the other albums I purchased in that order. David Bowie - Let’s Dance, Styx - Paradise Theater, Men at Work - Cargo, Aldo Nova - Self Titled, The Fixx - Reach the Beach, REO Speedwagon - Hi Infidelity, J Geils Band - Love Stinks, The Kinks - Give the People What they Want, Rolling Stones - Tattoo You, LED Zeppelin - Houses of the Holy, Def Leppard High N' Dry, and of course The Who - It's Hard I may be wrong but I’m trying to remember the cassette sleeves that I had with the annoying white trim.

I like your video quality, I can hear the song in stereo with good bass and clarity. On some other reaction videos, the sound reproduction is poor or unbalanced. Your voice is well set in terms of volume, and you don't do a lot of talking in the songs. Kudos! I'm an older guy but love the progressive rock. The Who "Tommy" is underrated on KZfaq. How about "Thela Hun Gingeet" by King Crimson? The whole "Discipline" album is Bruford at his best. I saw King Crimson perform their Discipline concert twice, sat 20 feet from Bruford and Fripp both times.

@@JustJP Justin not sure if you are aware, The Who was a huge influence on Rush. Specifically John Entwistle and Keith Moon, were huge for GL and NP. The more Rush you hear, the more you'll notice GL bass on many songs has a funky flair to it. Which make me think, I really should listen to The Who more. As I said I'm aware of their hit songs but never really looked into their catalog. The Who were active during the Funk/Disco era, which makes me think there could be some really cool songs I missed out on.

This is very unusual song for The Who, in a way more in the style of some of the solo material by Pete Towshend (the main songwriter, guitarist and ocassional lead singer - he sings this song). It's a really great song, though. Check out the live version from the live album Join Together - it has horns on it and it's generally much better than the studio take imo. Also, I urge you to listen to the song Love Reign O'er Me (if you don't know it already), it's a masterpiece.

This song made the airwaves. Good stuff. Maybe just me, but Pete's vocal reminded me of Anthony Keidos. Maybe in certain inflections. Maybe it's just the funk. Wouldn't be surprise if the Chili Peppers were inspired. *Daniel Lanois - "The Beauty of Wynona"* You know what? You'd prefer *Daniel Lanois - "The Messenger"* "Wynona is a guitar/production assault. WTFunk. I saw The Who on their first (of many) farewell tours in the early eighties. By then, The Who had become another prog/rock dinosaur. They still sold out large arenas but everybody wanted to hear their past classics. Pete Townsend is a musical genius. “Tommy” marked, for me at least, the beginnings of Progressive Rock. I recently re-listened to the ‘Overture’ and ‘It’s a Boy’ from “Tommy”. It has stood the test of time (unlike the awful movie). Ann Margret, baked beans, enough said. Ps, I call my car “The Rainmaker “ :D

David Ryder. I think so, but I’m no expert on classifications. The song Tommy’s Holiday Camp has a crazy fun prog vibe. The beginning overture is classic seventies stuff. It’s a concept album that tells a complete story. I guess my point is the music was much different than the standard 3 to 4 minute pop song. Just like the Beatles’ Sgt Peppers two years earlier in 1967, The Who’s Tommy was starting to push the boundaries of Rock that would lead to King Crimson, Yes, Genesis, ELP. Other bands from that time (Moody Blues, Caravan) May have preceded them. Quadraphenia and parts of Who’s Next were their last progressive albums. After that their sound changed and became more straight Rock.

While most would point you to Games Without Frontiers, Biko, Family Snapshot or even Intruder, I would suggest I Don't Remember, with the intro song called Start. This version has the right mix: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/l7OoaMyIpsuXk40.html The image is wrong on it though. The album cover is the melting face album. Anyway, this song is raw and amazing. You'll love it. I guarantee it.

Great song but not their best, IMO. Pete Townshend is a genius though, would love for you to watch Quadraphenia and give us your impressions.

No, the worst song by The Who has got to be ‘Fiddle About’. Very disturbing that one.

excelerater : Good point. As an old old Who fan, I must say that I was a bit disappointed in JP’s selection. Early to mid eighties Who went the way of a lot of the prog dinosaurs, including my beloved Genesis. I find it best to smile politely and be grateful that at least someone is paying these guys some attention 40 to 50 years later. And it really isn’t that bad of a song :). See the you tube video: Is Eminence Front The Who’s last great song? kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a5qcrdhona-yqJ8.html
