Yup! And I always assumed the smile was because when John strained to reach the note and/or passion on the words "everybody else is too loud" it kind came out kind of whiny or crying. And, of course, it's ironic since The Ox's bass is probably louder than the three other musicians combined!

The Who in full flight! That’s the f n best! I wish I would’ve thought of it...and you’re so right: there never will be another band like The Who in full flight again! I can’t stop saying it right now! For sure I’ll never forget it; and it’s a safe bet I’ll nick it from time to time. But just to say it to my family and friends. They won’t believe I came up with it anyway; I’m not that clever. Plus why wouldn’t I have been saying it for decades already? Ahhh, busted before I started. I’ve changed my mind; I’ll never attempt to own that beautiful remark! But seriously, it’s Gold, Jerry! Gold!

My favorite Entwistle tune (along with, oddly enough, "You"). Watching Kenney Jones in this video reminds me of how outstanding a drummer he was. Was he Keith Moon? Nobody ever pretended that. But he was absolutely great, live or in the studio.
@DrDizzleFrizzle9 жыл бұрын
They were just different drummers. The Who with Keith was great because there were just 4 monsters of music on stage, The Who with Kenny were great because like John and Pete said: Kenny gave them more room and thus we get better performances from John and Pete.

A bunch of us went to see The Who in Buffalo on the same tour (opening show of the tour, I think, with The Clash as the warm-up band!!)... We had hash brownies but started to chicken out as we neared the border. Everyone ate one and we had three left, so one of the girls with us, not wanting to waste any, ate them. By the second number she was on the tarpaulin and missed the whole show. She was very cute, and we had to encircle her to keep her safe, and even then, the vultures were circling.

I first began liking Pete Townshend, & the Who a long time ago. There was a program explaining that Pete Townshend was def, etc. I was too young to relate only that he was unable to hear. I, for some reason thought that there was another Brittish or English born rock star with more or less the same problem. I think I was thinking of a member of the Kinks, etc. Also, it seemed to be possible to keep track of him, Maybe because of the # of the members of the band. I think during the interview, he was out-going, etc. which seemed wierd because the band was already world famous. Also, I assumed he couldn't hear anything at all. This was was or seemed , if not impossible, verry hard to comprehend, because of my young age, + what I knew or didn't know about the term deaf. During the brief interview, he was outgoing,etc. so it was asa if somthing was cancelling somthing (out). At the time I also thought he must be the only one. I didn't even know any of the Who's material. So the band didn't serface in my world for another times' woth (of Time).

3:06 It cannot be stated enough. When Pete windmills, he's literally ripping his fingernails off. Everyone else who windmills on stage doesn't come close to touching the strings. It's a stage gimmick. For Pete, striking the strings with such blunt force was a part of his unique playing style that broadened the band's sound. The windmilling he does during "Young Man Blues" on the "Isle of Wight" DVD is unreal.
