Back in 1980, Whole Foods Market started with just one small store in Austin, Texas. Today, we’re the world’s leader in natural and organic foods with over 400 stores. What did it take for us to get to where we are today? Steadfast commitments to strict quality standards and responsible sourcing, as well as a passion for seriously great food.

@@Ubovethclouds You can develop a career at Whole Foods (or at any other grocery store). I suspect that you are the kind of person who defines "career" in an elitist way (like, anything that doesn't make you a ton of money or gives you "prestige" cannot possibly be a career). Thank heavens that not everyone has that classist attitude. Congrats, Scott!

I have an interview for whole foods on Friday and thought it’s a good idea to do some research, this video made me cry, I’m so blessed to have the opportunity to work with a team who aligns with my core beliefs, I’ve always wanted to help others but felt so small and didn’t know how I could start to make that big difference on my own, but now i don’t have to be alone, I can be a part of something bigger with good intentions instead of a greedy company with nothing in mind but money, I care about people, I care about the environment, I care about health, I care about animals, I want to make the that change for the better and I’ve never seen a job prospect that makes me feel how whole foods has made me feel today, I think I’ve finally found where I belong

The first time I came into Wholefoods was when I was ten years old at Austin, Texas Lamar location. I fell in love with the store as kid. I had the best pizza there! I knew someday I would work there. I’m glad to work at the Lamar location today. I’m proud to be an employee here of something that’s benefits the people :)

I began working for Whole Foods Market in the early 1990's in the "nutrition" section because supplements, herbs and holistic health were my passion. After about a year, I had to make the decision to stay or to go into sales for one of the biggest supplement manufacturers in the country. It was such a hard decision, but the money was in sales, and I was up for the challenge. As they say, hindsight is 20/20, and I spent the next 20 years working hard and traveling extensively, but missed helping the customers who trusted me to steer them to information and better health. Looking back, I now wish I had continued with WFM and moved up through the ranks. A few years ago, I tried to get employment in any department at any WFM in the area just to be back with the company I had so enjoyed working at, a company that I absolutely loved and felt that I contributed to with enthusiasm. I felt that my knowledge, great customer service and desire to be a part of the team efforts to create a happy working environment would be welcomed, but I never was able to get an interview no matter how many jobs I applied for online. It makes me sad because I had always had it in the back of my mind to return to WFM and bring my experience within the industry with me to the benefit of all. My love of helping people was what I missed when I was in sales. I believe it's okay to have regrets, and the one regret I have is that no one saw the value I would bring over the inexperienced employees who saw it as just a paycheck. I have been able to continue learning about my passions through seminars and books, and I have WFM to thank for helping me get my start in the Natural Products Industry. I will never regret or forget my wonderful experience and the great people who made up and continue to make WFM a great place to work.

I love Whole Foods because they care about the people who didn’t have access to good quality food . As a black man I grew upon NY middle/poor class regular, meats ,veggies but also eating canned foods , microwaveable items because it was fast cheap and affordable . Not being educated and no access equals to poor decisions being made . I love the Whole Foods mission to have a positive impact on all of the world. I truly do hope to become a Whole Foods partner some day.

Really fascinating to see the dynamics of fringe social movements and what changes as things scale. Success itself brings new opportunities and limitations, and you have to look to very creative thinkers and new information to truly be a learning organization. We've pumped a ton of energy into something very idealistic, and it grew very fast. Takes on a life of its own!

Thank you Whole foods! For so long I've searched for products that claim to be healthy but are really just the same thing I can buy in any other store. By paying so much more I can convince myself I'm eating heathy, even though every person I talk to in the agriculture industry tells me "Organic" is a complete farce. Ohhhhhhhhh those silly farmers. Don't they know their generations of experience with the production of food are no match for my Liberal powers of denial. When ever I shop in your store, just walking don't the side walk gives me the opportunity to look down my nose at everyone. Lets face it, that in itself is worth it Why just the other day I spit a mouth full of asparagus water on a homeless person. Keep up the great work.

Some facts: Whole Foods has trained employees to lie to customers about GMO foods, saying they don't sell GMO's when they absolutely do (caught on undercover cams). Whole Foods has contributed $0.00 to the fight to label GMO foods. Whole Foods has been caught many times overcharging customers. Whole Foods sells some "organic" foods grown in China, lol. I could go on but you get the idea. They started out with a nice idea but have morphed into just another corporate money making grocery store that sells some organic stuff and plenty of GMO crap. Are they honest? No. Do they care? No. The $0.00 donation to fight to label all GMO's says it all.

Actually part of your orientation training is that not everything is organic or non-GMO and things that are will be labeled as such. We also aren't supposed to promise that items or orders will be in store by a specific day. Some employees are dumb or forget or promise things they aren't supposed to. If the package or labels don't say non GMO or organic certified then there is no guarantee. If a product is organic it is automatically non-GMO because under federal guidelines no organic product can be certified if it contains genetically modified products. So if it says USDA Organic then it is also Non-GMO even if it doesn't say it on the packaging. All 365 brand products aim to be non-GMO and the store is aiming to eventually go fully non-GMO but that's really hard to do and still have stuff on the shelves so it's going to take time. If an employee lies it doesn't mean that they were trained to do so it just means that others (like me) will end up having to deal with the fallout and pissed off people. If the product is on whole foods shelves and grown in China, that literally means someone had to initially fly over to that farm and make sure it meets the store's standards for conditions and to get an organic rating they have to meet the guidelines and inspections of an outside group for certification. There are strict guidelines to get organically certified and the country of origin doesn't mean anything. Not donating to a big fight for labeling doesn't mean anything since as a company they can directly push their suppliers to do so instead. You want non-GMO food? Then buy products that are certified Non-GMO and avoid the ones that aren't it's that simple. As it is things are heavily labled with ingredients and no one has any clue what the names of ingerdients mean. They think if the word sounds science-ey or they can't read the word then it = bad. Customer: Oh this has sunflower lecjknaskfn.... I don't want this one. Me: Ma'am, that's just a plant-based ingredient used for emulsifying and thickening...

@icedovermoon

Yes, as in let them live a happy life even if they are going to end up someone's dinner. Would you rather have them shoved in tiny cages until they die or roaming and munching happily? If you don't want to eat meat at all that's perfectly fine and your choice but treating the animals humanely even if they are going to become prime rib is a huge deal and should still matter. If you step back don't eat meat, or boycott eating animals, it doesn't stop the animals from being treated poorly and slaughtered, but stepping forward and saying consumers want animals treated humanely DOES. For changes to happen people have to step forward and say this is what we want the process and system to look like and then push the corporations that supply the product to impose those changes. Even people who live vegetarian or vegan lifestyles should get behind companies like whole foods enacting changes in animal welfare. Even if I didn't eat chocolate i would still want the farmers who supply the beans to have fair conditions and revenue.
