Hypotheticals are not detailed enough for a good enough answer. And all answers and actions are influenced by exposure/experience. So it's actually stupid when people expect you to give an answer devoid of your personal experience. In which universe is that possible. And what is the point of Hypotheticals that couldn't apply to you? What point does that make?

@@drnkansah hypothetical questions come with certain restraints like with scanty's question, it was made known to him that if his mother takes a stand that in of itself is reason less what actions would he take. He got the scenario perfectly well and later comes to say his mother will not take an unreasonable stance. I mean hypothetical questions are used to get people frame of mind in others shoes

One thing I've noted from MILs who behave like this is that, 1. They are jealous that the DIL is happy and she the MIL didn't get or doesn't have a man to make her happy. Usually, such MILs are single mothers who solely raised their sons or they're in unhappy marriages. 2. The MIL energy and DIL energy do not match. One is dark energy the other is light energy. 3. The MIL is sexually starving. 4. The DIL is not a human doormat to the MIL. I, for one, do not entertain relatives coming to live with us in our matrimonial home. Neither my relatives nor my spouse's relatives. Everyone should live where they are. I don't want to start something that will result in generational hatred.

In all honesty, on countless times on KSS, when such contentious discussions pop up and Scanty takes a stance different from the "perceived general stance", I do not understand why he is not given the CHANCE to explain his stance. Scanty is perfectly right; Sheldon is just being manipulative. Scanty’s foundation for his argument was that “his mother would never make a stupid decision” so if he later said that he’d accept his uncles and aunties for blessing if his mother makes a stupid decision, it’s clear that it’s just an impossible scenario he’s even citing. So he’s not wrong by saying he’ll need his mother’s blessing cos his mother in real life would never make a stupid decision. And he’s also not wrong in saying that he’d accept other family members if his parents mess up cos that’s also an impractical scenario, “his mother will never make a stupid decision”

That is exactly the problem. Scanty didn't answer the question. Scanty says his mom won't make a stupid decision. Cool. But Sheldon is saying IF, there's a reason IF is used, it's a CONDITION. Sheldon simply means..."Your mom makes wise decisions, cool. But IF she makes a stupid decision, how would you proceed? This a hypothetical scenario. So it's clear it's not a real life instance. The main focus here is "how would you proceed?" So just answer the question based on the hypothetical scenario and stop reminding us it would never happen because we already know that.

I agree with Scanty to a degree. If a man goes ahead and marries a girl against the blessings of the parents, he'll never know peace for the rest of his life. I believe the man should have an idea what his parents would object to before going into the marriage in the first place. From the video, I can tell the mother didn't like the in-law even before the marriage and the son went ahead hoping things will improve. Never try to convince or plead with your Mom to accept a lady you want for a wife.

This is why men usually depart this world before women. As a boy growing up, you are under the control of your Mom. When you get married, your wife takes over the control. In most cases, the handing over of control from Mom to wife doesn't go smoothly and that results in the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law feud. Handing over power is not easy (ask the politicians) and in all these, it is the man who suffers.

If a man wants some semblance of peace in his life, he should not marry a woman the mother objects to, period!!!! Forget about backbone and all. Have you wondered why we have something like "ex-wife or ex-husband" but nothing like "ex-mother, ex-son" etc.?

i agree with scanty to an extent that, no matter how irrelevant your family reasons may be, if you ignore a lot of people being against your decisions and move ahead to do them, the eyes and bad expectations alone will never let you and your family be yourself. because, trust me, your family is waiting for the day to tell you "I told you so". the lady can be the best person on earth but you can never go into a marriage where the family you will need at a point is strongly against. so the best is to let things go.
