She knows that the pendants are rare enough that only monsters have them in large numbers, so she’s testing Link’s courage in the face of evil, to see if he’s the one to recover the triforce.

That's an incredible theory !
@DarkBloodAssa3 жыл бұрын
And she is most likely a sheikah, quite known for testing the hero.
@insertianameia22243 жыл бұрын
I was just about to say all this. I think it was her way to test him. She has likely been told of a young boy clad in a green tunic. That may even be part of the reason wby she is a school teacher. Windfall Island is the most pop hylian island in the game. If a boy were to be born as an incarnation of the hero of time, it would most likely be there (it wasnt, but statically speaking, the chances were higher there. Especially since it had been so long they really had no real clue as where to look.) She may have been there to see the children and watch for the new hero. Biding her time. Then when a boy traveling the seas alone came to the island, clad in a green tunic of the hero, she requested the pendants as a test of courage.
@anonymousfellow88793 жыл бұрын
@Insertia Nameia (adding to this) And her tests are also progressive: she claims she “lost” her students, but this also happens to be the same day Link comes to town and needs to buy a sail; and addition to the Green Tunic, he also has a sword and shield strapped on. If those aren’t just for show, then wrangling four kids shouldn’t be an issue. Aside: but it’s also possible that she’s training these kids as Sheikah by playing to their strengths-the boys are incredibly fast and hide pretty darn well and will literally patrol the island. Channel that into making them Guardians when they’re older. The two girls also function as Gossip Stones, and have to get their information from somewhere. Considering Miss Marie’s involvement with Zunari’s business, it’s probably from her. It’s also likely that Zunari’s clan owning both the sail and magic armor were also fibs. She just leant them to him so that he could kickstart his own buisiness...which he didn’t. He made Link do all the legwork without pay. And we do have a canonical example of the Sheikah adopting hylians as clan members in OoT to rebuild their clan-Impa by opening Kakariko to Hylians (failed; they turned it into a hylian settlement instead while also bemoaning Impa’s clan getting decimated in the recent civil war) and Zelda becoming Sheik (moderately successful. And after OoT the Sheikah clan presumably finally recovers) Then of course having Link collect joy pendants (only found with monsters or in a few random chests in monster-claimed territories) and claiming it’s a “Jewelry Obsession” ...when she only wears the one her students gave her, and has zero interest in the golden feathers, knight crests, and wildly popular skull necklaces and just keeps all of Link’s Gifts in literal piles from lack of space...she’s not actually “jewelry obsessed”, though she does enjoy putting an effort into her appearance and uses the house wives’ snide comments about her as a Cover for these Tests in case anyone grew suspicious for whatever reason. But, all of Miss Marie’s sidequests are both mandatory for game progression and progressive in difficulty. She even provides a way for Link to have enough money to deal with Tingle if he’s “wise” enough with those slide puzzles. Her clan’s Oasis is also suspiciously close to the Tower of the Gods-another Testing Grounds (that Zeltik has theorized is Sheikah-Made, that also requires three keys to enter), so her family would indeed be able to spy on contestants attempting to enter and leave said location in pursuit of the Master Sword. And, well. Sheikah are most associated with Wisdom, anyway

Here is another theory. What if the Redeads were actually thieves? They learned about the treasure underneath the cabana, somehow they managed to break in, but due to the design layout they couldn't find the exit or the treasure, and in the end they died in that very room.
@19TheFallen3 жыл бұрын
And, to add to it, as a result, they were cursed, not only for their greed, but due to their lack of worth, so to speak.......Being thieves, they weren't worthy of something as valuable and important as a chart leading to a fragment of the Triforce of Courage/a fragment of the Triforce of Courage. One thing these games show is that in matters like this......Tests set up to find those meant to wield the gifts hidden by the goddesses, they *don't* mess around, and there are *always* steep penalties inflicted on those who prove to be unworthy of their aid!

Here's a theory that I hadn't thought about all the way until now: What if the Cabana is actually a Sheikah Shrine and the Butler is its resident Monk? His actual physical form is somewhere inaccessible within the "sewers" since his purpose is not the be found, but to just help keep up the charade of the Shrine being a normal house possessed by a spirit. Mari and her ancestors, meanwhile, are Sheikah descendants who were chosen to look out for the new Hero and subtly guide him to finding a Triforce Chart, or a straight up Triforce Shard in the HD version within the Cabana. The Monk may even be one of her relatives.

I have a theory about the relation between Ms Marie and the Cabana, as well. She lived with two relatives in the past before the flood occurred, and the three of them encountered a spirit, which is the Doorman/Butler. Being a spirit, he warned them of the coming flood, and the three of them, who already owned the cabana, renovated it to create a sort of Apocalypse Shelter beneath. The empty rooms and the pot rooms once stored food and other supplies that they would need to wait out the storm. The drains for the water aren't a sewer system, but are there to drain out flood water. Eventually, being trapped underground led the three of them to fight and become a little insane as time passed on, and Marie became paranoid about starving, herself, and killed her two relatives in their sleep. Being on cursed ground, the relatives' corpses eventually became Redeads because they weren't laid to rest properly. Ms Marie was cursed, as well, and, as a ghost, is wearing the body of another woman who discovered the property. (the pink-haired woman we know as Ms Marie, who is a schoolteacher) She made a deal with the spirit to linger on the world due to fear of what she had done in life. This is why she seeks Joy Pendants and surrounds herself with them, as a way to escape her inner turmoil with artificial happiness. This is why she never wants to return to the Cabana--too many dark memories attached. The spirit remains, as the Butler, offering his services to the next people who would gain the deed, and deterring people away from finding the hidden entrance to the Apocalypse Bunker.

Loved the video! I always had two theories regarding the Cabana: 1. The teacher was a necromancer, who used the power within Joy Pendants to practice her art. She left the Redeads beneath her cabana to guard her treasure, similar to as you stated, and put her butler's soul within the walls to be the retainer of the cabana's owner forever. Perhaps Marie wasn't the necromancer, though, but the current owner, as the butler keeps referring to The Master and not Mistress. 2. There's a curse on the cabana that Marie knows about, which has gradually, bit-by-bit, drawn the life from previous owners, who became the redeads in the basement, and she's looking for a chance to offload it onto a sucker. Maybe the Joy Pendants have something to do with breaking her bonds to the cabana.

It ocurred to me that maybe the butler was at some point a servant of the Hyrulean Royal Family, who long ago was tasked with guarding the Triforce Chart (of fragment of the Triforce in the HD remake), and even after the cabana was built on top of his grave, or whatever, he continued watching the place to ensure that someday the hero would come to claim what was rightfully theirs. It is not very farfetched when you consider that: a) the Private Oasis is pretty close to the Tower of the Gods (which remember sits on top of the remains of the old Hyrule Castle) and b) the King of Red Lions is in fact a boat that at some point, became posessed by the spirit of the King of Hyrule himself in order to guide a youg hero to fulfill his destiny, so maybe the idea of a spirit posessing a door, or even an entire house to protect an invaluable secret, doesn't seem as out there as it probably should.

From what I can gather, the cabana could be a childhood home of the Hero of Time. In Wind Waker, we learn about how the Hero of Time broke the triforce into shards for the sake of his successor to find. I have a feeling that his intention was to have the proof of the Hero’s spirit by the challenge. As for Miss Marie, she had some connections with either the Royal Family from OoT or a Sheikah descendant. Given that her cloak has a stylized Shiekah symbol (the eye with three triangles above and a tear drop shape below), she clearly had some way of knowing about this mysterious tribe. What about the cabana? How could that have been a significant place for OoT Link? Well, think about the locations of Hyrule in OoT. A temple in a forest, a chamber in the volcano, a purifier below the lake, a house of the dead, and a temple lost in the desert. OoT Link knew the difficulties he faced and most likely felt those pangs of fear many times. However, the way he could guarantee that his successor would be brave like him was to test him by trials. In Wind Waker, the cabana is the Great Sea equivalent of the Shadow Temple, or better, the bottom of the well. We know that Ganon has had control over the land of Hyrule, enough to freeze minions of his own within the castle beneath the sea. In the opening cutscene for Wind Waker’s new file, we learn that the hero of legend defeated Ganon, but a fell wind returned and the hero did not appear. Each of the triforce shards were a bread crumb trail for his next iteration to piece together, realize their potential, and take up the sword of evil’s bane with courage, wisdom, and power to stop the fell wind from rising again.

With that in mind, Miss Marie heard the legend of this hero. She remembered the ending and the fact that a hero was meant to return. It’s likely that Miss Marie’s title as “Miss” could be both for her role as teacher and a wife of someone. That someone could have been the butler that once lived with her at the cabana. With her tears staining her late husband’s brow, she prayed to the gods just as the Hyrulian people did in the legend. She didn’t want him to pass and asked for his spirit to watch over the cabana. Knowing this, the trio of goddesses accepted her request and bound his spirit to the cabana, knowing the next hero would be the one to continue the fight against Ganon. Her request fulfilled, she left for Windfall Isle. Deciding to leave behind her memories of that place she now felt indignation for, Miss Marie made it her goal to keep with the tradition of proving her next deed owner. Enter Link, just discovering his role as the Hero of Winds and landing on an island focused on wind no less. His task? Find a sail. On the way? Show himself to the town so that they recognize those green clothes. Miss Marie sees the tell tale sign of the hero and feels that tugging of destiny on her heart. After Link helps her class regroup and treat her with respect, she gladly accepts the birthday present of a joy pendant.

What about the underground section of the cabana? Easy. Those were the leftovers of the old village named Kakariko. Either the graveyard or the well would fit that description best. What more of a poignant place to put a piece of the triforce than a monumental moment that the Hero of Time had faced?

What if the cabana has some connection to the bottom of the well of Kakariko village from ocarina of time. They have their similarities. Plus the bottom of the well is where you find the lens of truth, but Mrs Marie (who was the previous owner of the cabana) eventually gives you the the hero’s charm which looks like two lenses of truth put together

Link with a chainsaw and Friday the 13th mask on would definitely make even the most scary enemies fear of not a hero, but a new monster. XD

I wondered about this for years when I was younger, but I forgot all about it as I got older. Seeing someone making a theory about something I wondered about for ages and never found out the answer to is super exciting! Thank you for the video!

Wow, another challenger enters the arena! This is a great video, from the concept to the editing to the narration. Looking forward to enjoying your content, this definitely earned a sub from me. Bravo! I came from the mini theories vid you did with Zeltik, by the way, as I'm sure many others will in the coming days. Very glad to have found this channel. Good luck going forward, and best wishes!

This shit was so scary as a 7-8 year old boy. And i was fucking scared of the forsaken fortress. This shit, though, scared the fuck out of me--it was a totally different level. Especially since before i went down, i thought the island was "off": i didn't know why it seemed off, but it was and i didn't like it. I didn't like how i didn't know why i didn't like it. And then i went underground and i saw why. Great job Nintendo, you got 7-8 year old me pretty good lmao

This was a really good video and a really great thought-out theory on Mrs. Marie and the cabana.

Yes, Link losing the triforce could be tied to Majora's Mask, but couldn't it also be tied to Link's Awakening and Soul Calibur 2 on Gamecube?

Honestly same with me, the Cabana was my first time encountering ReDeads in TWW. I had not been expecting them to be in this game, so meeting them in this game via the Cabana was a shock since it meant there's be more in other parts of the game.

The "Mrs." part suggests she's married, but who's her husband? Maybe it's the door-butler? Maybe he's haunting her and she wants to divorce his cursed spirit and can only do that by getting rid of the deed. Also, it confuses me when someone named "Marie" is pronounced like Mary 😅 I do like the theory though!

It's crazy how some innocent looking video games can have dark secrets. I thought there was some speaker on the cardboard cutouts.

I feel the same as you. I played WW first in its HD iteration. It was the game that came with my special WiiU. I was around 17 then and the redeads scared me so much. I was so easily frightened back then. Even fnaf used to be scary for me. Now I'm hardened. I can watch scary videos to fall asleep and sleep soundly anyways.

In a series that has undead corpses,giant skeletons, giant spiders,multiple bosses/enemies that made out of Eyeballs... a sentient door is what gets people to be like, "That's strange." 😂

4:52 Strange how the picture puzzle is of this kid who lives on Outset Island. You could say he's one of Ms. Marie's students but I highly doubt that. It would take days to reach Windfall from Outset by boat (remember, nobody else can use the Wind Waker!)

Don't know if anyone else has mentioned this but on the bit about the sentient door, in Japanese folklore spirits/yokai can inhabit just about anything, including doors. Though, yokai in doors usually refers traditional paper doors that have had holes poked in them for peeping toms to peek through that have gone too long without being meded but that could be where the inspiration for a sentient door came from.

That is very interesting stuff! God, I love asian folklore. Thank you for sharing ^^
