I agree with your point about the young guys. Jets are making so many stupid moves with guys like Perfetti and Ehlers, it has definitely developed into a distubing pattern. I just wonder if this McGroarty thing is Cutter Gauthier 2.0?

Brutal reaction. This is because the jets couldn’t guarantee him playing time next year. He has to earn his spot on an nhl team he can’t be just guaranteed the spot. Put in your time in the ahl if you have to don’t just req a trade. Not on chevy at all. I’m the biggest rutger fan out there but this is way more him being entitled than it is chevys fault. One thing I will agree on is if we just let go of appleton and let rutger play in that spot we wouldn’t be dealing with this rn. But other than that, he’s being an entitled American

Did Laine put in his time? I recall him being on the opening night roster, as an 18-year-old. Kyle Connor was a mainstay on the roster early in his second season. Same with Hellebuyck? Now, look at players like Heinola, Capobianco, Gawanke, Chisholm, Kovacevic and Salomonsen. Two of those guys were lost for nothing on waivers, another left after never getting an opportunity, and another is a UFA because he didn't get in enough games prior to turning 25.

@@pomerlain8924 laine was a 2nd overall man wakeup that’s a horrible comparison. Kyle Connor played college then on the moose then proved himself. If rutger went to the moose I bet he’d get nhl mins in no time. Heinola has been treated brutal, capo was just an unnecessary signing adding to a logjam of dmen. Chisholm was a victim of the logjam and left but that’s natural in the nhl. And salomonson is 20 years old and has been playing in Sweden and will get on the team as soon as next year so that’s a brutal comparison as well. And gawanke we traded to San Jose bc he wasn’t good enough to make the jets, and wasn’t even good enough to make San Jose so left for Germany.

If the Winnipeg Jets are a draft-and-develop team, why: - have they: -- gone nine straight playoff games having allowed at least four goals and won only ONE of them? -- yet to win a playoff series following a 2021 sweep of the Oilers? - is Kevin Cheveldayoff still their GM even with: -- no post-2018 conference final appearance? -- his newest Habs', Canucks', Flames', Leafs' and Sens' counterparts having been appointed after December 2021, leaving only his Oilers' counterpart, Ken Holland, as having been appointed no later than the 2019 off-season?

Appleton is at his peak performance a fringe fourth liner on a Stanley Cup contender but on the Jets he is a guaranteed third liner...this makes very little sense to me. He has enough seasons of NHL play to show what he is capable of, I see no logical argument against moving him to the 4th and opening up 3rd line wing to a competition between guys like Chibi, Lambert, and Rutger. Hell if Monahan leaves and the Jets aren't able to trade Ehlers for Necas they have to run Perfetti or Lambert or Vlad at 2nd line center anyhow which opens a spot anyway. The veteran cap-ceiling experiment needs a drastic change in this situation...it has not worked since 17-18...when a youth movement was allowed to hit its stride.

Chibrikov is in Russia this season for some reason or other. School? McGroarty would be a cancer in the locker room. Wait and see what we get for Ehlers (who has stated he will not re-sign) and McGroarty. Chevy will make a great deal.

What a reaction, Peg City. Earn your spot on the Jets team, instead of coming across with an entitled postion, Rutger is my reaction. I really liked Rutger McGroarty when he was drafted, then when he was here for the camps, etc, a "team guy with sandpaper". This guy in some of my discussion, would/could have the "C" on his jersey. Thats how I feel/felt about him! Honestly, I plainly disappointed with Rutger McGroarty. Also, I'm waiting to see what the likes of Heinola & Perfetti do this year (go like gang busters first portion of year, then begin to tail off as the teams ramp up their play physically going further into the season). These two will never be able to play an entire season, Peg City. Cuss and swear all you want at Jet management, I will defend the direction the Jets management have/has gone or going with these two. This reaction on this site regarding some players is way over the top.

There's nothing entitled about it. He's not going to sign just so he can spend years buried on the Moose while guys like Appleton, Iafallo and Stanley are given preference. Look at the history of the Jets recent draft picks. Heinola has been buried on the Moose. He made the Jets out of camp last year, breaks his ankle, and doesn't get another chance. Guys like Lambert, Chibrakov, Salomonssen, and Barlow, to name a few still don't have a guaranteed chance to be regulars. How long is it going to take for people to understand that this current culture around this team is not working. Look at the lack of results in the playoffs. Patrik Laine was playing as a rookie. Andrew Copp was playing as a rookie. Jacob Trouba was playing as a rookie. Connor Hellebuyck was playing as a rookie. You're not developing young players by keeping them constantly buried on the Moose. Look at other teams around this league. Look at the Stars with Wyatt Johnston and Logan Stankoven. Look at the Hurricanes with Seth Jarvis. Look at the Rangers with Braden Schneider, Alexei Lafreniere, and Adam Fox. Look at the Bruins with Matthew Poitras and Mason Lohrei and John Beecher. Just to name a few. They don't just draft young talent. They give the young talent a realistic chance to succeed, and even if they stumble early one.

@@pomerlain8924 Sorry, not going to get into with a Jet supporter, as I'm one as well. Please look at how players like Schef, Lowry and Conner began their early years as Jets. As far as the other Jets you listed, they have only been drafted in the last year or two. There time will come, as would have McGroarty. Now, as far as Heinola and Perfetti, I don't hold them in the high regard as some do. Continue, but I will disagree. Heinola isn't Makar as many Jet followers believe he is and Perfetti, well he's got many backing him, but he does play. I will say no more.

@@camper2737 The problem you all continue to have is that you're happy to have these prospects, but don't want to use them. That's the problem with this organization. They continue to pay deference to vets and don't play young guys. And the prospects get buried in the AHL. Leon Gawanke was a RHD with a big shot that never got a chance and signed in Germany. Declan Chisholm never got a real chance and is now a regular on the wild and QBing their second PP unit. And if Ville Heinola is not that good, why is he not traded. If he's not that good, why did he make the team out of camp last year? The organization has buried on the Moose for years and killed any trade value he has. That's not how you treat prospects. Look around the league. Contending teams are actually giving rookies a legit chance to play. Look at the Stars. Look at the Rangers. Look at the Hurricanes. And the Panthers may not have had rookies, but they had a whole lot of players who had been contributing early on in their career. Most of the guys are 27 or under. Most of the Jets are 30 or over. And this current approach the Jets keep taking with prospects is not making this team better. They're not contending for a cup. In McGroarty, you have a skilled physical forward, which is something the Jets do NOT have and something they sorely need. Guys like Appleton, Iafallo, and Namestnikov are not difference makers, and McGroarty, as a raw rookie could make more of an impact. And the misperception is that McGroarty wanted a starting spot waiting for him. That is false. What he wanted was to be given a realistic expectation that he would have a chance to make the team next year. And what was related from management was that there wasn't a realistic chance of that happening. And that's the problem. You have a stud first round pick, and you don't want to give him the very best chance to make the team. Are players like Appleton, Namestnikov, Iafallo and Niederreiter so much more important than giving a stud in McGroarty a chance? And then you wonder why this team is nowhere close to winning a cup.

Ok, I guess by that reasoning the jets aren’t convinced that’s he’s ready ….. ok, well if that’s the case then why the hell would he want to go to the AHL when he has the option to stay and play big time ncaa hockey? I’ve seen plenty of AHL hockey and I’m going to say NCAA competition is as good if not better than the AHL. So I don’t blame the player in the least.

I legit think he was wanting to play with the Jets if he was given a fair opportunity to have chance. And as good as he is as a prospect, and the fact that the roster is in desperate need of some new blood, he should have gotten an opportunity. But when they said there's no realistic path to him making the line-up next year, and knowing the history the Jets have of having prospects toil away on the Moose, Rutger wasn't having that. Totally understand where he's coming from. If the Jets won't give him a real opportunity to play, trade him to a place that will. The Jets organization is shooting themselves in the foot by living in this bygone era where they keep prospects in the AHL for years and reward loyalty. This is a results-based business now, and you have to play your prospects to see what you have.

How has not fast-tracking any of the other Jets draft picks improved the team? McGroarty is a leader who can be the heartbeat of the team. He more than likely may not need AHL seasoning. But how will we know if he's not given a true chance. Trouba, who also went to Michigan, didn't have AHL seasoning, and he played his first game for the Jets at 19 and was a mainstay until he was traded. McGroarty would make more of an impact than Mason Appleton or Alex Iaffalo. And what impact Logan Stanley having when he's not even a regular in the top 6. He should be in the AHL, but instead he got protected over better players like Kovacevic, like Chisholm (who's QBing the second PP unit for the Wild), and even Michael Eyssimont (who signed a two-year extension in Tampa.

@@neatmike7184 He's not being entitled. They told him they don't have a clear path for him making the team. So why would he sign? He's a first round pick and wants a path to making the team. Not wasting away in the AHL. That's already happening with Heinola, Salomonson and Lambert. Not to mention how Perfetti was treated. This is a culture problem that's on Chevy. He pays too much deference to veterans while shafting young talent. Leon Gawanke left for Germany. He was a right-shot d-man with a heavy shot that tied for the AHL lead in goals from defenseman last year on the Moose. What have the Jets needed desperately? A right-handed defenseman with a big shot. He never got a chance and chose to sign in Germany. The Jets organization seem to think burying young players in AHL for years is the proper development path. It's not. You have to give young players a real chance at playing. If they succeed you move forward with them. If they're stumbling, then you send them down to refine their game.
@neatmike7184
@neatmike7184 19 күн бұрын
@@pomerlain8924 actually you’re wrong on many accounts. Gawanke was simply not good enough to make the jets and even if he was, he didn’t straight up leave us for Germany. We actually traded gawanke and then he left after he wasn’t even good enough to make San Jose. Ville has been treated brutal youre correct but he would’ve been on the team this year if not for injury. Lambert isn’t having that done to him he’s been given a chance in the nhl already and will only get more chances possibly making the team next year. Morrissey, connor, hellebuyck etc. all put in time on the moose that’s how it works when you’re a draft and develop team. Connor even played college and THEN went to the moose where he proved he was nhl ready. The jets have a path for him, but it just wasn’t a guaranteed spot on the team in the upcoming season which makes total sense especially when you’re a contending team.
@pomerlain8924
@pomerlain8924 16 күн бұрын
@@neatmike7184The Jets are nowhere close to contending. And just because others put in time on the Moose in previous years doesn't make that the norm now. You can't keep young players marinating in the AHL for years. The Stars were contending for the top spot and brought up Logan Stanloven. The Rangers gave their rookie players real chances to play, like K'Andre Miller, Braden Schneider, and Lafreniere. This whole culture this organization has with rookies is what's holding this team back. What has this team done since 2018? But yet, they should keep going with the same development process because the other players went through it? Nevermind that this current team, full of veterans, folds anytime they face adversity. Nevermind, that this team full of veterans doesn't have enough players built for the playoffs? Never mind that this team full of veterans continues to have scoring droughts anytime the top 5 can't score because of lack of scoring depth. So when Rutger is tearing it up on another team and being a big factor in that team making the playoffs and going far, and the Jets are once again losing in 5 games, just remember that we could had McGroarty and didn't give him a realistic chance to play because he just had to follow the blueprint that other players had to go through. And expect this to happen again and again because the Jets now have a reputation for how they screw over prospects. Having them is better than using them.

There are no perfect prospects. Every rookie coming into the league will have deficiencies that they will have work on and improve. That shouldn't prevent them from getting a chance to make the team. If the Jets aren't going to allow prospect a realistic opportunity to make the team simply because he's not perfect, then they are shooting themselves in the foot. Especially, when they have roster players who themselves have plenty of deficiencies. Rutger's physicality to go along with his skill is something none of the Jets' forwards have. That, alone, should earn him a chance at making the team.

And this is the problem with this organization. The Jets may draft young talent, but yet they completely misuse them by not giving them a realistic chance to play on the main team. Chevy does not make moves to open space up for them. It seems Chevy just wants to collect draft picks to say they have them. But gotta show that loyalty to Appleton, Namestnikov, Ehlers, Schmidt and Pionk. This team needs a jolt with an infusion of younger talent. But that's not possible if they keep favoring all the veterans. And now the top draft prospect is wanting to be traded because he's not being given a realistic option to make the main team. This is why I say the Jets need a new front office that has a different mindset. These excuses for Chevy are getting tired. He relies too much on loyalty and not enough on actual results. He's not going to move Appleton or Namestnikov to give McGroarty a true shot to make the team. He fills holes, but he is not forward thinking and willing to take risks.
