Sad about Mcgroarty I thought he could be a Chris Krieder type of guy for us. I feel Lucius who finds himself because of injury behind Lambert,Chibrikov,Barlow,Salmonsson,Heinola. Could also want out just no leverage. Whether jets include Ehlers,Perfetti,Mcgroarty,Lucius,Iafallo,Pionk,Stanley in trades guys I'd look for in return. 1. I think UFA Hamonic,Reimer,Driedger,even Staal/Bortuzzo from ThunderBay. 2. Byram/Savoie or Benson from Buffalo 3. BreadenSchneider NYC 4. KentJohnson/Mataychuk Columbus 5. The way the Jets do draft and development is not working. They keep their draft picks in the minors far too long. Let them play on their entry level contracts on the 4th line, limited minutes and let them develop and move them as they improve. The entry level contract would allow them to take the money save and use it to get better quality veterans. Unless of course they have drafted poorly and these guys just aren’t good enough which brings up a problem with their drafting.

You are right. Jets keep their young players in the minors far too long, but there is a reason for that and it's not a good one. The greedy Jets ownership does not really care if they ever win a cup, all they care about is making money. They want to win enough games just to make the playoffs every year, to give fans false hope and try and keep the arena full during the regular season. The jets would rather play mediocre players that can produce "somewhat" now, rather than give ice time to young studs that may need a little time to get really productive. They are hoping that if these studs stay in the minors long enough, they will reach the level of mediocrity needed to put them in the lineup, without setting the team back at all. 99% of teams that win a cup have to go through some growing pains and have down years with development before they win. Rutger could be one of the best players in the nhl in a few years, and.lead a team to victory. However, Jets ownership is not willing make the sacrafices needed to allow that.to happen.

@@marksydor3108 your view is a bit more negative and conspiratorial that what I was getting at. I don’t think it’s a grand scheme. After some really great drafts early on they have had a bit of a drought lately. They seem to have a few good young ones now. I’d like to see them play, make some mistakes and maybe by the all star break the team would round into form.

Well, it's hard to have good drafts when you are a middle of the road team that squeaks in the playoffs, and consistently gets a bad draft spot. With the exception of getting lucky with Kyle Connor at 17, most of the jets decent drafts were in the top 10 or near top 10. Sheifele was drafted #7. Ehlers #9. Trouba #9. Laine #2 etc. Perfetti at #10. Morrissy #13. Even McGroarty at #14. However, even although some of these guys are very good, none of these guys are superstars and wouldn't make a lot of teams first line. I am assume you are smart enough to look at Colorado's roster and figure out why they trashed the Jets in the playoffs. To win a cup you need superstar talent, either that or an insanely deep team deeper than the jets. Only way to get superstar talent is to tank and get a good draft spot. If you tank you risk losing fans for a while. Something jets ownership will never allow. To give young guys a chance means you risk losing games, and again risking attendance numbers. Call me a conspiracy theorist all you want but the Jets made it past the second round only once in 13 years and Chevy still has a job. There are teams with even better records that have fired their Gm's. You can kiss Chevy's ass all you want by saying he is such a smart GM that makes all these wonderful trades, but the truth ot it is, if the Jets don't more regularly make the conference final or even a stanley cup final, it proves nothing. The reason Chevy still has a job is because he is doing exactly what ownership wants. Keep a mediocre team that squeaks in the playoffs every year and sucker fans into going to games. It was working well before when the economy was good, because the "I am just happy to have a team" folks were going to games. Now that more people have to make tough choices with their money, it's the diehard fans that live and die for hockey that they need to count on for support. The problem is those fans want results, and their patience is finally wearing thin and attendance numbers are going down.

There's a problem when Dylan Samberg is the only prospect that's become regular in the past 5 years. The Jets system is antiquated. We see other teams, contending teams, infuse their rosters with youth players. And if they do well, they become regulars. If they struggle, they send them down. But they give their prospects a realistic chance.

I really would love our team to trade for Trevor Zegras if we were to trade Rutger McGroarty. Zegras would help more on the business side on our team selling tickets than he would on the ice and that's still helping our team just in a different capacity. Plus he has a better supporting cast with us than he does in Anaheim. A Zegras and Vilardi duo would be very fun to watch. We can trade Ehlers for a 2025 1st rounder and get some moneyball/solid bargin bin players in FA like a Shayne Gostisbehere and maybe a Carter Hart.

The easiest & best solution to this dilema is to give McGroarity what he wants ....a top six roster spot!!! He'll either sink or swim right ....kids these days are so much further along at a younger age than guys were 15- 20 years ago alot more of them can step right in and play big roles right away!!! Chevys draft & develope in the minors model has fast become outdated, its time to adjust or this is going to only get worse w our top prospects!!!

I'm just a little surprised the rumor was that he wasn't even being given a chance to fight for a spot. Part of me wonders if the Jets were squeamish about him being good enough to get a spot and burning an ELC year early before Appleton and Iafallo's contracts were over. Doesn't seem great either way!

@@LockedOnJetsNHL Exactly. So many people think Rutger wanted a guaranteed spot. No. He just wanted to be given a realistic chance to fight for one. And for the organization to just continue to want to follow the same antiquated development process and stick him on the Moose is troubling. And to give deference to Appleton or Iafallo or any other veteran over a forward prospect that plays physical and can score makes no sense.
