I really hated season 2 tbh. I can recognize there were great aspects to it but it felt like the Greeks and port people in general became irrelevant almost instantly once it ended which left that season seeming aloof and disconnected from the overall narrative. I also didn't really like any of the port people in general. In part because they were all racist but I also didn't really didn't care for their characters much. Frank Sobotka more than the others I guess but he's like the pick of a shit-filled litter. They weren't super compelling or interesting. Conpared to the main cast, even though we all know theyre pretty much all assholes in one way or another, you kinda like pretty much all of them (apart from select people you're clearly meant to hate like Colicchio). Even Herc is hard to hate due to his dynamic with Carver and the good side of him.

@@joedorben3504 I think season 1 was so different, so brilliant that the shirt to season 2 was jarring. New scenario, new characters. Season 2 answered the question "how are so many guns, drugs, etc getting in the country?? someone must be in on it" and thats exactly what was explained and why in seas2 Sobatka was trying to keeo the jobs going, take care of his family, his union that he made a deal with the devil and was helping to destroy his own city

This is what I hate about hypocritical Hollywood, they put films up for Oscars, Toni Awards etc. when a series that literally knocks everyone off their feet, with excellent writing & acting it is more or less ignored. This was one of the best series I have ever witnessed& the other was Body Guard from England, another series with top-notch acting in every sense of the word than they are reluctantly mentioned. The wire from the beginning to end kept you on the edge of your seat with excitement and suspense. Kudos and respect, this is what television should be about.

I personally agree. Season two was disturbingly deep with smuggling drugs/women into the USA through the ports and season 4 is so damn emotional because of the kids' impoverished environment, peer pressure, the educational system, etc. By and large, the Wire is such a landmark series that I can watch it over and over with the same enthusiasm as if I'm watching it for the very first time.

Season Four was Shakespearean. It's absolutely PERFECT. I was only a couple years older than Mack Wilds, Julito McCollum, Jermaine Crawford, and Maestro Harrell...and it felt like these were legit drama prodigies or savants they way they made that heavy material seem as raw and real and relatable as it could possibly be without ever feeling like they took away from the rest of the brilliance of that cast, writing, and direction. It's apex mountain TV for me to this day.

I remember how torturous it was having to wait a week between episodes in a year between seasons. When his masterpiece was finally over, yes I actually cried, I couldn’t wait for the box out to be released so I could have it forever and watch it whenever I want which is at least once a year. I have been a fan of David Simon since Homicide: life on the street , which is a lesser known gem, and love all of his series but The Wire is televisions greatest masterpiece. And raise the bar that no one else has been able to reach since. IMHO ✌🏼

Just mad respect to Michael K Williams, Wood Harris and Robert Wisdom for their performances in the show. I particularly love the characters of Daniels and Carcetti for the reason that they show how the corruption in the system doesn't allow you to be good. Either you are corrupt or you are out. While Daniels takes the noble option, Carcetti doesn't. And then, there are characters like Colvin and McNulty who are willing to set it all on fire, just to weed out the corruption and get things done.

With the times of now and my own growing out of that dependency I see it much deeper. I went to work tonight and listened to all 8 episodes of the 20 year anniversary podcast and topped it off with this interview cause I didn't wanna let it go. I'm left absolutely grateful to see it in this light and know these actors, writers ect. are telling the absolute truth about how it impacted them even after all this time. You All worked out an absolute timeless masterpiece without a doubt. Us die hards are the reward I guess cause the only reason you didn't get it is cause like it's been said, it maybe a little to real for the powers that be to get the vote.
