Prime Minister Narendra Modi has brought a new issue into his campaign - the allegation that Adani and Ambani are sending "tempo loads" of black money in cash to the Congress. While the Congress has quickly turned this around to target the BJP, Modi's supporters and the big media appear confused by this sudden outburst. The Wire's Jahnavi Sen speaks to Sushant Singh, Lecturer, Yale University and Consulting Editor, Caravan and Siddharth Varadarajan, Founding Editor, The Wire about what this could mean. They also discuss the Election Commission's role during the ongoing elections and why the claim that India has become a 'Vishwaguru' in the last 10 years doesn't hold water.

Nobody wants to raise their voice against a fascist because may be fascist has gained undue control of a system which can be (will be?) used against anybody who raises their voice or even expresses dissent. Whether it is Dr Swamy, Satyapal Malik, Rupani, Jagadish Shettiar or Dr Parakala Prabhakar - everybody is hinting at some glaring violations as well as authoritarian behavior by this fascist.

Constitution is an inanimate entity. It won't stand up and administer hand cuffs or shoot bullets. It's custodians and front runners are under his grip. They want to follow his orders so avoid his lethal sticks and who knows - some may even enjoy the carrots that come along?!

Best thing BJP can do to save itself and to be relevant in indian politics is to win the election of 2024 somehow and the next day remove Modi from any role in the party or government and replace him. This would save the party. Otherwise the drowning Modi ( which is undisputable) will drag BJP as a national political party to the form of a group of bigots and idiots. I hope the party learns a lesson from how unceremoniously Advani was sent packing. BJP, to save itself, should do a Modibandhi one evening at 8 pm. It would be fun.

Yeah just like the land scam in Goa detected in 2022... Started during the "cleanest CM" tenure, planned and executed during the covid phase. Now Trying to downplay the extent of the land grab by not calculating using the current commercial land rates. Unfortunately the most "educated" state don't know how to ask the political candidates the right questions. One of the biggest thing we the people have to TELL our candidates that since we elected you based on the candidature / backing of a particular party...If that fellow wants to change his party allegiance, that person has to resign and come back to the electorate for election to that second party.

This is a good interview on the current developments. It is gratifying that The Wire is doing excellent journalism in bringing truth to the public and exposing the falsehood of the ruling dispensation. It is a fact that many people do not think that the Election Commission is doing things which they are supposed to do. They are not impartial. That is the problem.
