Echidna’s tea party was probably the most important event from this episode. And while I do believe they did a great job adapting it, I think they could’ve done a bit more to explain what exactly was going on. Aside from that though, episode 3 also skipped some of the most important details regarding sanctuary so far. So let’s continue our cut content series and take a look a what exactly we missed out on!

@@cactusbread2215 Echidna is a great character. Maybe my favorite from this arc. Every time she appears it's pure gold. She and Subaru have a great dynamic. But not best girl. Not even close. In terms of being a potential love interest she's just about the worst one imaginable. Unless you're into some pretty weird shit.

@@Bleiser3 I understand cutting content for time constraints, but after Shield hero ending on L'arc's arc instead of Naofumi's justice, and Honzuki covering one entire part per season as opposed to letting each arc have its own needed time, I can't help but imagine the content was cut because the directors didn't understand the material they were working with as opposed to the more logical conclusion, which is the aforementioned time constraint.

I was hoping for at least 6 witches in that first tea party but there is so much to cover and just so much you can cram in 20 mins which makes me wonder just how much will be rushed in future episodes . Or if this season will end half way through this arc if they keep pretty faithful to the source material.

Damn, the thing about the second pact and the second realm he's visited seems so important, I can't imagine why they would leave it out. Since Subaru apparently doesn't remember what happened in Echidna's realm, and has forged a pact that is similar to one he already has that forbids talking about the thing, it is quite likely that he had a conversation with Satella before that wasn't shown.

As for the tea that "didn't taste like water, or green tea, or black tea," the anime made it extremely misleading. ここで生成したものだから、言ってしまえば、僕の体液だ。It's something that was made here, if you were to ask me I'd say it was my body fluids. 僕の城で生成したものだから、言ってしまえば、僕の体液だ。It's something that was made in my castle, if you were to ask me I'd say it was my body fluids. The difference being, as previously mentioned that this realm is her "castle," which is also an embodiment of her mind, so it being produced within this "mind realm" kind of equates her tea to be "her fluids." By glossing over this, the anime made it seem like Echidna spat into a cup right there on the hill and gave it to Subaru XD Removing the "castle" setting altogether, it also removed the line Subaru said that impressed Echidna first (before going up the hill and drinking the tea): 「けど、城はねぇよ。お前の領域、借金の形に椅子とテーブル以外持ってかれたの？」 "but... there's no castle. This domain of yours, did loan sharks take everything except for a table and couple of chairs?" Echidna becomes impressed he can joke around in the presence of a Witch.

This makes me more curious about Roswaal as a character. He reminds me of Mephisto Pheles from Blue Exorcist, a man who has enough knowledge to manipulate both sides of a board game and toy with people as if he were the mastermind of the world he's built. What is he and how many secrets he holds?

@@The_Custos I think he's more like an anti-hero. He won't go out of his way to antagonize anyone, but if you stand in the way of his goals, he won't be that merciful. I mean, his goal isn't even that bad, though his methods are... questionable. I think Pandora will still be the final villain.

He also was able to meet some of the other witches- Pride, cut off 3 of his limbs, Sloth just wanted to sleep and was punched to recover/heal the missing limbs by another

Qufox I think that only happened in the Web Novel (Not sure since I did not read the LN) but the way the Tea Party took place and how all the witches were introduced was vastly superior in the novels. Specially Daphne, Minerva (The one healing the limbs and damage body) and Echidna herself with her “Thirst for knowledge” monologue. Skipping content already kind of tell us that the adaptation will be rush. The Web Novel took roughly 150 chapters to complete the whole Arc and the LN cut that in half so I guess the Anime will go at fast speed as well.

I don't know when this occurs in the webnovel, but this is a later scene in the LN. As the anime adapts the LN, it makes sense Subaru has not met the other witches yet.

Much of this information was given or hinted at already within the time constraints of this episode and the one after. Furthermore, a lot of this context can be spread out and drop fed to us throughout later episodes without causing significant problems to the main narrative or pacing.

Love re zero. Definitely going to give a read with the light novel version. I did enjoy the ex light novels that explained a little more in depth about the re zero world along with character back stories. :)
