What makes this scene so emotional and powerful is Geralt's reaction. Thoughout the entire game, Geralt never really shows any emotion, especially in his body language and facial expressions. But the moment he turns Ciri over, his pain is as clear as day, and is simply overwhelming to witness.
@catbuikhang64829 жыл бұрын
travis kerns "Witcher is stripped of emotions" or i believe he did say that in some dialogues, and this scene proves that the love is great enough for a witcher to shiver
@TechnoMinarchist9 жыл бұрын
+The Hell Angel Geralt is the only Witcher that couldn't have his emotions taken away from him; however because he's a Witcher, people expect him to be coldhearted, and thus they treat him as a coldhearted bastard, so eventually he figured that he might as well begin acting like one if everyone had already decided for him... It's hard to be a kind person and get treated terribly due to false expectations. It got to him. The first time he left Kaer Morhen he saved a woman and her father from a bandit attack. Instead of thanking him they got angry at him for killing the bandits. He vowed to never help another person ever again. Yen and Ciri pulled him out of that attitude. As bad as Yen was for him often in the books, she was very good at getting him to act like his true self.
@nicksooter23578 жыл бұрын
+travis kerns That's well said, Travis. In fact, I'm pretty sure it's the only time he shows that kind of emotion in the entire trilogy...which is why that scene is so damn powerful.

After 80+ hours of gameplay, I finally reached this scene. It's one of the most powerful moments in gaming I've ever experienced. I knew Ciri couldn't be dead, but it was still absolutely heartbreaking to see Geralt, usually a stone-faced badass, overcome with such heavy sadness. And the 10 minutes afterwards with the two of them just talking in the cabin was a really warm, enjoyable scene. Man, I love this game.
@Loxias19894 жыл бұрын
I don't know why but for me the most powerful moment in the witcher 3 is when Geralt tells the dreams woman in Novigrad that he died alongside Yennefer and Ciri took them to a place where apples never fall or trees die. I don't know why but I had some kind of emotional breakdown at that point cause Geralt was so into telling this memory and it was death

My heart fucking shattered when he first looked at the hut with the news of her, and stopped in front of the door. The devs on this game did an exceptional job of conveying the agony and heartbreak of this scene. Taking it slowly, all the nuances of Geralt's reactions, it made me feel like i was actually him and that he was afraid to open the door and see inside yet knowing he must. All this time of hunting Ciri down so desperately and he finds this. I cried my fucking eyes out.

This scene hits even harder because it is the first time that we see Geralt, the stoic grumpy hero who never surrenders who always finds a way, break. Even when Triss or Yen were endangered we never saw this side of him. We always only saw the strong witcher, almost stripped of emotions and with that in mind it is even more shocking to see him lose it. Geralt was always the guy who would stay calm, you could always rely on him that he would not do stupid things due to his emotions, he always has himself together and focused. To see him break like that is scary and makes him so much more human at the same time...

Kratos killing Zeus, Joel loosing his daugther, killing first dragon in skyrim, ending of journey, limbo ending. This Moment surpasses it all. I am a tough person, sometimes very emotional movies make me cry but never any game. This made me cry every time i watch it. The musical score in incredibly ridiculously good. The setting is perfect. Timing exceptional. I got to this scene after 100 hours into the game. I was shocked to see her. But the relief i got was insane like some divine intervention. I remember reading somewhere that some journalist/blogger guy claimed Geralt never shows any emotions beyond anger and cynicism. He clearly never got this far. He also must've never even beaten White Orchard (Geralt's obviously shocked and happy to see Yennefer, and there's several later conversations in Vizima immediately following where Geralt can effectively declare parental protectiveness, love, and palpable romantic awkwardness and regret. But that's beside the point).

ISchulz Actually, witchers are trained not to show any emotion, so it's quite normal that Geralt doesn't show off anything except when he feels something really powerful and extreme: like anger, disdain, nostalgia or, in this case, love.

***** In polish he says it better "I wish I could cry". It gives out even more emotions.
@ventusvero44845 жыл бұрын
You got bad information. There are other witchers in the book that retain the capacity for love, but they are rare (other witchers in the game aren't supposed to be as colorful as they are). The Trial of Grasses does kill emotions per se (though the books trend this way), but its better to think of it as extreme emotional states. You'll never see a witcher break down and start crying. You'll never see a witcher paralyzed by fear. Being humored or pissed doesn't cause them to be irrational. It's part of what makes them such great killers and so fearsome. Now, as for the White Wolf, his trial of grasses didn't go the same as everyone else's, leaving him with a more intact emotional self (along with bleaching his hair and other pigment things, he was given a lot more mutagens than normal) , capable of what you see and more susceptible to moral dilemmas (the killing monsters trailer, for example, shows well how Geralt differs from other witchers that would have just gotten paid and moved on). Geralt's failure (or aberrant mutation) during the trial of grasses works because, despite how hard he rails against fate (geralt really hates the idea of fate) no other witcher could have formed such a bond to the child of destiny, even though he tried pawning Ciri off more than once when she was a child, after her grandmothers kingdom fell. In the end, this scene was done beautifully for people who have no clue what the law of surprise is and those that know how the law of surprise with Duny and Yurga kept bringing Ciri and Geralt back together.

Perfect example of how you don't need words to invoke emotion. Compare this to Darth Vader in Revenge of the SIth's silly "Noooooo!". Nuance and capturing how something would be in real life is key. One of the most memorable best done scenes ever in a game...
@alexh27179 жыл бұрын
for those who wonder: the scene starting at 3:33 is the scene in the last short story "Something more" before the main series begins. Reading those last 2 pages is even more tear-producing than this.

Very powerful scene, nothing has made me cry harder, I legitly fucking chocked in tears. God damn you CDPR ! Very well executed, all those emotions were perfectly conveyed. His hesitation to enter the hut, his hesitation to turn her around, the face of realization, the reunion with the scene from Sword of Destiny, just fucking amazing. It's no wonder this game has gotten so many prizes they eventually ran out of prizes to give.

Fuck this scene. Especially when Geralt was rocking her back and forth. I can only imagine the words he was saying. The fucking inability to weep. Maybe wishing it was him instead? I'd have killed myself if I found out all I ever cared about died. Doesn't help that I have a crush on Ciri. Would've hanged myself like the Bloody Baron. Sidenote, that was a very intriguing storyline too. Watching the worst ending in the game where Ciri dies because of self doubt and Geralt goes to the Crones to grab Ciri's medallion and pretty much breaks down while being surrounded by all manner of monsters is currently taking an emotional toll on me. Whole day today I've been feeling sad as shit. Couldn't do work. Lack of sleep didn't help either. I fucking HATE and LOVE this game. I should just stick to games with subpar storylines so I don't get all emotionally invested in characters. FUCK me. Fuck you CDPR for making a very very captivating storyline and game!

One of the most beautiful scenes in this game! Witcher 3 is the first game after The Last of Us that contains those very little and soft details in the characters facial expressions which perfectly describe their fealings to the player. In a way that no words or hysterical crying is needed to make the player sympathize. At least that's how the game appeared to me. Great game!

The most devastating and heart breaking moment I've ever seen in games. The last one which I clearly remember was in Bioshock Infinite ending. Still remember it. Knowing what happened in books makes me feeling this even stronger. Not gonna lie, It's unusual to me to feel such a strong sadness toward fictional characters and crying over them but this time it is a complete exception. The song is called _Wolf And The Swallow_ in the official OST. Just look for it. Crying every time when I listen to it. It invokes so emotional moments of the game and my life. Can't hold tears. Clearly on par with "Go Your Way" trailer.
@truefenriz9 жыл бұрын
Not gonna lie, this scene really got to me. The body language and music set up the moment brilliantly with Geralt's grief conveyed without spoken dialogue. The subsequent relief was also well done though not as well as said earlier sequence. More games should have moments where dialogue isn't necessary to convey emotions and this was the scene that finally convinced me to buy Witcher 3.

+Patryk Rębisz I believe u have already beaten the game. I read the whole saga long time ago and managed to play the game only now. When dwarves said, that she is dead, i felt like rock. I stopped moving and breathing. I thought that they might thought of other woman, that it is not Ciri. But when Geralt opened the door and i saw the legs i just started breaking up inside. Fuck, i didn`t shed a tear because i was in a real shock. When Geralt made it into seeing her face and when i saw his facial expression, all the pain - it resembled me. Geralt was me at that moment. And then that magic light flies in - i strain like a string and shout inside - please, please be Ciris soul! And this light just flies into her and awakens her out of her endless sleep. I almost passed out. My ending was like that. I was cherishing her after first met moment everytime, i knew that i couldn`t lose her again. I overprotected her. I got feeling similar to those which i got when i was reading the book. And in the ending i ORDERED her to stop and not go inside - but she disobeyed. I felt destroyed, when Geralt said to Emhir, that Ciri is dead. I wanted to exit the game and uninstall it. But i made it into the final quest, and when i saw Ciri there, waiting for me, and when i knew that she became a witcher and started to live her life happily - i was shining. It was so unexpected. I am so emotional now that even your small comment made me write all this stuff. This game deserves a book. It is a great ending of the witchers story.
@Clauudz8 жыл бұрын
+Megalodon I had the same ending. Honestly I was crying the whole time from the point when Geralt said to Emhyr that she was dead. He tricked Emhyr and us. :P I knew there was one bad ending and almost was about to close and replay the game, because I felt like I completely fucked up. But I continued to see what would happen and there was Ciri. I felt so happy and relieved. It's amazing that a game can do that to you. I hope to be able to read the books someday too.
