The Witcher is an upcoming TV series exclusive to Netflix, based on the Witcher series by Andrzej Sapkowski, who will serve as a creative consultant on the show. It was announced on May 17, 2017 and its first season will consist of 8 episodes and set to be released on December 20.
In December 2017, it was announced that Lauren Schmidt Hissrich will be the series' showrunner and on January 20, 2018, Lauren Hissrich tweeted that the script for the pilot episode is finished.
The series was filmed in Hungary, Poland, and the Canary Islands.
Filming began in October 2018 and concluded in May 2019. It's been confirmed from casting news and promotional material that the first season will adapt most of the collection of short stories from The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny.
In November 2019, before the first season even premiered, it was announced the show was already renewed for a second season and would begin production in London in early 2020, with a planned debut in 2021.
In September 2018, it was announced that Henry Cavill would play Geralt of Rivia

Sorceres are born with a magic connection, and are honed through studies to perfect it. Mages are people who learned magic through relentless studying. Witchers = mutated human beings that know basic magic and have animalistic characteristics.

I say, Yenn is the most beautiful female character in all of games. I had a crush on her 15 years ago when reading books. I never played The Witcher games but the way she looks there made me watch all the custscenes and I really enjoyed it.

I struggel with one thing... how could Yen put Geralt in a hypnotic state with a spell if witchers are immune to magic?

I think they're not immune to everything, just resistant to some. The show was just more absolute with 'mutants are immune' which made it more confusing. Since witchers take tonics and stuff to prepare for fights, clearly there are some things that still affect them.

To the people who run this site, I am a fan of "The Witcher", and I can't wait for the new season to start. Please understand I'm not bad mouthing the series but damn it is tough to follow when you start watching from a dead start. Understand I have never read the original books, and I don't know how much good it would have done me since they have only just been translated into English in like the last twelve or so years. Please understand I'm an old fart and read "Lord or the Rings" Back in the 1970, when I was entering high school. So? Sadly, they do make a ton of od assumptions in this show about what a witcher is and who Yennerifer is and where you are and hence I have had to resort to watching a number of KZfaq videos in order to follow what the heck is going on. Mind you, it's actually a cool story but it's tough to make a TV series that doesn't lose too many folks and still tells the story, I truly do get that as well.

Witcher is full of names that are from all over the world. Sometimes those are names of People, sometimes of places or important landmarks (Angoulême, Demawend). It is easier to take existing names (especially if they sound a bit foreign, and to Polish ear, and certainly to the Eye, since IDK how you even pronounce those names correctly) and use them. And Sapkowski specializes in old European and Persian linguistics - hence Demawend is used as a name.

The differences and the shortcuts the Netflix version sometimes used suit the format of the show. So far the story's details hasn't changed so much, most of what happens is like an alternate route but leads to a similar conclusion to books/games.

johnny muamua Tissaia used common magic or light magic i guess while fringilla used dark magic which comes with a heavy price to even the extent of a life. Dark Magic in many ways can be way more powerful than light magic but it really depends on the person

Sodden was absolute bloodbath. Yen was overpowered by many other mages, the fact that Fringilla blinded her was random, that is all. Tissaia was the most powerful of all expect Lara Dorren gene holders.

the djinn magic that tied them together was nullify by a wish from another djinn (djinn magic can only be break by another djinn) and found out that there still in love.

Djinn didn't put love in their hearts, this is in the books, yennefer got it all wrong in the series, so much so that Geralt tried to explain himself and she didn't let .. The series used this fact as an artifice for the couple to are separated , since in the book blood of the elves they are separated by another mative, and the series will adapt this book, so they needed to be separated ..

The "evil" milfgardian sorceress was one of them before she got evil, was she not? In the netflix series I was not sure who she was, but in this clip I saw her as one of the deciples again. She was so unimportant to me that I didnt recognise her when I watched the episode.

In the tale something ends , something begins yes, they get married but not in the temple because of the elven blood of yennefer .. But in the book the lady of the lake they don't get married, but they stay together But the end is quite tragic

But after her transformation when she first meets Geralt she is over 70 years old, she should have this worldly and sophisticated feel about her that she miss.

after a djinns 3 wishes its near impossible to recapture, i suppose geralt couldve wished for her to have kids but he only had 1 wish left and needed it to save her life, she wanted to use her body as a vessel aka she becomes a sorcerer with the power of a genie but she wouldve died if geralt didnt wish for their fates to be bound. btw just cause their fates are tied doesnt make their emotions false or untrue they do genuinely love eachother and i hope yen realises this early in season 2.

Didn't the author say that while not legally Canon as far as licensing goes, the games are the true sequel to the books? I may be remembering wrong. I guess I just prefer Geralt to have a happy ending
