This movie rocks and is the best werewolf movie ever made and to say it's a remake is a disservice to all horror movies. The power and the savagery of the wolf is genuinely frightening. It being his dad and what not was actually surprising. And your fans are just insufferable. All they be is yes men and you don't even respond to your comments.

I genuinely love this movie. I think most of Hopkins' sleepy performance can be boiled down to just making weird choices about the character he was playing. I guess Hopkins wanted to convey that he was cold and calculating, and so it just comes across as emotionless.

I think that was actually the point. He was hiding a whole aspect of himself. I think Hopkins wanted to sell the idea that he found his human form to be dreary, uninteresting, and distasteful. Because he seems to perk up a lot later on in the movie when he's being true to himself, as opposed to hiding himself.

Anthony Hopkins played the character just right. Emotionally unavailable, full of contempt, regret, and most importantly, just as he says in the movie, dead inside. He doesn't have a sense of urgency or surprise because he already knew exactly what was going to happen. He knew he killed his son, and when Lawrence arrived, he knew he would end up turning him and he would kill also.

Wait, did she say that they can only be released by someone who loves them at 8:24? So that makes them even harder to stop. How terrifying would it be if werewolves were actually real and would rampage like this? The Wolfman is already pretty OP from a physical standpoint. The speed, power, and durability, surpass basically anything and makes it top of the food chain, but then you have to love the person who is a werewolf to stop them for good. And then, adding to the difficulty, you have to use silver bullets or somehow be able to set it on fire and decapitate it.

This was the first R rated movie my parents took me to see when I was a kid, I love this movie so much and yes some of the performances were bad, but Del Toro was so great in it, the effects, and score of this film are absolutely fantastic. This movie is everything a Werewolf fan would want in the gore department it will always hold a special place on my heart.

Always love kill counts; glad to finally see some love for this movie, or at least some recognition of what it was trying to do! Anyone else notice a random lack of audio/eng-subtitles around 22:34 - 22:45? Is this due to a copyright strike warning?

Despite its few flaws, I absolutely love this film, the werewolf is my second favourite after Kessler, and this was the last movie I went to see on the cinema with my grandad before he passed away, who was a huge wolfman 1941 fan and who also got me into horror, so to me this movie is so sentimental

This werewolf moments in this movie scared the shit out of me when i was either 10 or 11 and i had a fear of werewolves. Now for some bizarre reason in my late teens I find werewolves cool and i can appreciate this movie (most of it) for giving me the sense of being terrified.

This movie is the perfect reflection of the time in which it was made. Messy production, uneven effects that are great when good but eye-rolling when not, some performances that leave you scratching your head while others shine through, and an absolutely killer gothic setting… I really enjoyed it :-D

So I saw a comment about Anthony's performance being drowsy on purpose and I agree. Sir John is bored of being a human. Its about having power to him. Hiding who he really is would most definitely be boring to him. After confessing to Lawrence he kinda let's that kid out with the harmonica and so on. He loves the wolf within. Hes cold and calculating. Hell by the end of the movie he says "You're head of my kingdom Lawrence, you'll always be apart of my kingdom Lawrence" so it makes sense that Sir John would want to share this glory. And I'm doubly sure Sir John knew Lawrence would get out of the asylum.

I always loved this movie, it's so much fun. Werewolves are my favourite monsters so I've got some bias. Not a lot of werewolf movies with this kind of budget behind them, even with its problems it's easily one of the more notable werewolf films. Also, the director's cut is definitely better, the theatrical version doesn't do the characters justice.

hopkins enjoyed this, and heres a quote from an interview about how he played the character: "So I thought well I'll play it like an, a quite, a much quieter man, based on someone that I knew when I was a little boy. He was an old farmer who was kind of eccentric and he used to come to my father's bake house. My father would give him stale bread to feed his pigs, you know. And I used to follow him, he was fascinating. We, all the kids, built up this fantasy about him that he was a demon or something. He was just a harmless old man, he didn't speak very much. So I based my character on him, and on the coldness-there's one line in the script when I say to Benicio Del Toro, I say 'by the way, I'm sorry to-your brother's body was found in a ditch, on the priory road. Do you have the right clothes for the funeral?' So cold. And I liked that about him. So I pulled that coldness right through the character. But he's not particularly crazy or bad or anything, he's just eccentric and distant and ice cold" edit: if he hadnt played it like the guy he knew, it would have been better
