As an atheist, even I think, "christans bad", movies are painfully played out.

I haven't seen the movie but I've read the book. The message isn't really "Christians bad", it's more "obsessive religious fervour can be bad, but is often a reaction to trauma. Also, if you're dealing with a troubled child, you need to put aside your prejudices and listen to what she's trying to tell you, even if it's expressed in a worldview that you don't share."
