There is a saying that each Bond actor gives his best performance in his 3rd film, so that wouldn't be surprising.

It was an added final season to Remington Steele that resulted in Timothy Dalton starring in The Living Daylights instead of Pierce Brosnan.

@@tank3143 The audience asked for one last season of Remington Steele. It was a massive mail in petition for one more season. That wasn’t the entire point. NBC also offered to help Brosnan travel between NBC and MGM filming locations to take care of filming if MGM was willing to work on the schedule. It would be a tight schedule. MGM said no.

He was considered as a replacement for Roger Moore, but deemed too young. Interestingly enough Timothy Dalton was a possible Connery replacement but also deemed too young at the time. Finally Roger Moore was considered to play James Bond for Dr. No, however he was busy with his television commitment.

Yea, it's one of the better films of the 90s. In fact, this one is always in the TOP 3 list when I rank the 90s Bond movies.

golden eye isn't just an all time classic movie with Pierce Brosnan as 007 but also an all time classic movie game based on that film but the world is not enough was on another level.

Convention Detention it’s been better received in recent years but back in 1989 it did poorly at the box office due to its poor market campaign and went against hits like Batman Indiana Jones 3 and Lethal Weapon 2. The serious dark tone of Timothy Dalton was ahead of its time and fans were not ready then after being used to Roger Moore’s light hearted approach and style as Bond in 7 films over 12 years.

GoldenEye is underated amazing film.

You are aware that literally everyone in every generation always says the world's gone to s**t and was best whenever they happened to be young, right? Yeah, there's a viral pandemic, that happens every once in a while. Look up the 1918 novel flu pandemic - it was WAY worse. People were dropping dead within hours of catching the thing after it had gone around the world and mutated badly due to the awful unhealthy living conditions during WW1. Our grandparents had 6 years of a horrific world war which even included the detonation of two nuclear weapons on civilian targets, the evil fire-bombing of residential Dresden and the mass torture and slaughter of 6 MILLION Jewish people. They had over a decade of rationing and awfulness, conscription and so on - so by comparison what we have to deal with here is nothing at all. Yes, there are corrupt politicians... welcome to the human world. That's literally always been the case and in fact most of history was far worse. Yes, "kids these days" are different because we've made a very different technological world for them to grow up up. That's literally always been the case too. Parents once all thought rock and roll and young people wearing colourful and comfortable clothes was the devil's work. Incidentally, The World is Not Enough was a terrible POS movie (though granted, Spectre is way worse for other reasons).

What happened with Richards in TWINE, in her secondary Bond girl role, is she ends up having a bit of sass, she’s a bit of fun and a good point of difference to the elegant Elektra - which Bond himself registers. He treats her much differently to how he interacts with Elektra. He’s much more cynical with her and helps show a different side to Bond in the same film where he’s also more emotionally invested with the lead Bond girl - that dynamic rarely happens in Bond movies.

Not him. Just the writing and insistence on Halle Berry. She really wasn't the best choice as her acting is not up to spec on the scale needed to be a Bond co-conspirator. Take her character out and the movie goes on with minimal rewrites. Lucy Liu could have played the part better.

Same here! I was 38 when this film came out and felt that anticipation as I had for every Bond movie since The Spy Who Loved Me. The three year lag, Halle Barry (whom I don't like as an actress) as the main Bond girl and perhaps advancing age dampened my enthusiasm for Die Another Day, even though Brosnan was great again in that film. I like Daniel Craig and his films have been mostly very good, but this movie marked the end of an era for me.

GoldenEye was his only good movie as Bond, but I think Pierce was great in all four. Hell, he's the reason why I can still watch and enjoy Die Another Day, simply because he's such a great Bond, the only one better is Sean Connery. As much as I also like the others, they don't hold a candle to these two.

actually the subplot and pierce brosnan and the female villain and pretitle sequence...and cold blooded killing of the female villain were the only best in the movie but none of the above reasons will make a movie better

Thank you, Craig is a great Bond, but Brosnan is the Bond I grew up with so I noticed those similarities too and scoffed a bit. Forget that people didn't like his 007 movies, I enjoyed them a lot, GoldenEye and TND my favorite, his acting is always beyond Boffo :)b

Every bond film borrows something from another one. I laugh at you for not knowing that Goldeneye is basically the same plot as moonraker. What matters is which Bond film is actually the better film.
