On a school trip to Tower Bridge we saw them filming the river bit in that black speedboat. Someone told it was the new James Bond film being produced and I, irritating little shit as I was at age 9 or 10, shouted off the bridge “OI! JAMES BOND!” To which Pierce Brosnan, or more likely his stunt double, turned and waved at us. It’s all been downhill for me since that moment.

They were really hard on this movie, but I do find it to be an enjoyable watch. It's got a goofy spirit to it, but knows how to be serious at times. I do think Renard is a very underwhelming villain, though. Robert Carlyle was much less threatening here than he was in Trainspotting.

Yeah, I know that the whole point is that the miners are on strike, hence not in the mine, but you have to have a scene where Charles Bronson saves Merryl Streep from the collapsed mine!
