The kit I used is Italeri 1/9 WLA.
In response to the news of Akira Toriyama's death, I made the illustration of Son Goku from Dragon Ball riding WLA, which is shown on the cover of the illustration ``The World of Akira Toriyama.''
Akira Toriyama also makes models, and his skills are excellent.
Perhaps for this reason, WLA is drawn with great precision down to the smallest detail.
This is an illustration rich in detail with just the right amount of deformation.
Dragon Ball's Son Goku wears a U.S. military uniform and rides the WLA, a design that will captivate everyone regardless of genre.
Making
I tried to recreate the illustrations from ``The World of Akira Toriyama,'' but it took a lot of effort.
What caught my attention was the wheels.
At first, I made the rim out of transparent plastic borad to make it look like the wheel was rotating, but it felt very strange, so I stopped making it.
I don't think it would look strange if it was on a 1/24 or 1/35 scale, but as the scale gets larger, I feel like it would start to look strange unless some deformation is added to the whole thing.
In this illustration, the wheels are drawn in an oval shape to give a sense of movement.
Also, if you look closely, the body of WLA is deformed diagonally forward to give a sense of dynamism.
However, the details are as precise as the actual WLA, and the sense of balance in this genius artist's drawings is of a level that no average amateur modeler like me could imitate, even after a thousand years.
The illustrations drawn by Akira Toriyama add animation effects to the reality of the actual vehicle, making them truly realistic.
Akira Toriyama's work skillfully blends these elements to achieve the ultimate balance of visual effects, and I believe that the quality is at a level that would win a visual effects award in the illustration field.
I cannot directly imitate Akira Toriyama's illustrations.
Instead, I'm going to increase the detail of the WLA to the highest level and put a Son Goku figure on it.
Reinforcement
Since I will put a large figurine, I reinforced the steps, kickstand, and seat post attachment points with metal wire.
Olive drab paint
If you look at war movies and color photos of current and past combat vehicles, you'll see that there are many different types of olive drab, some greenish, some brownish, some yellowish, and there's no right answer.
According to the "JIS Color Standards", olive drab is described as a dark grayish greenish yellow.
It is basically a variation of yellow, but it is difficult to imagine the actual color from this representation.
The actual painting method seems to have been a mixture of black and yellow, or brown and green, but this is also a color that is difficult to imagine.
However, olive drab is a major color in clothing, and I think it is a color that is visually familiar.
The WLA olive drab depicted in "The World of Akira Toriyama" is more brownish, so I used that as a reference.
If you paint the model with just Olive Drab, it will lose its three-dimensional feel.
It is better to give color changes such as brightness and fading.
I painted olive drab with oxide red → yellow → diluted dark green.
Next, I painted it with yellow enamel paint and olive drab, and weathered it with rust orange and ground brown.
leather painting
I painted leather items with yellow and red.
Then I paint them with hull red or red brown or dark brown.
By adding the ground brown to the color shading, you can create a more realistic finish.
I would like to use a bright brown such as tan for the bright parts of the leather, but I often fail, so I adjust it with yellow and red.
figurine
I made Son Goku from Dragon Ball using Sculpey.
If I made a figurine with the same proportions as the illustrations in "The workd of Akira Toriyama'', it would be impossible to put figurine on a motorcycle, so I made the Son Goku with proportions that would allow him to ride on a motorcycle.
Putting a figurine on a motorcycle is a process that requires a lot of patience and poses and changes dozens of times.
Next time, I would like to make a three-dimensional version of Akira Toriyama's illustrations.
I pray for Akira Toriyama's soul.
