Women often appear as the subject of portraits in art of the Renaissance period. Discover how portrayals of women changed radically during this time, notably in the dynamic and “psychological” art of Leonardo da Vinci. This period saw the rise of Sofonisba Anguissola, a female painter who was regarded as a marvel by her contemporaries, and women patrons, who used rank and wealth to collect and display the most valued art of their time.
Antonella Doucette, Faculty Art History, Worcester Art Museum and Instructor, Worcester Institute for Senior Education, Assumption College, Worcester.

11:20 Ah yes. :D 25:33 Love Professore Doucette's sense of humour! 35:22 Ah, va bene! 41:56 Family Portraits 46:11 Bless her, she is the only lecturer to emphasize the most important focus in Leonardo's oeuvre: to express the sublime quality of one's soul. Brava, Antonella! ❤ 52:00 Symbolism of what used to be the hinged diptych of this double portrait, including the pelican piercing its own breast to feed its young (= charity); and the unicorn, symbol of purity 1:04:02 Post-Council of Trent 1:25:50 She speaks of the 'misattribution' of works of art---but this did not only apply to female artists; and there was certainly a motive, an intent, behind this.
