I work on ships like that. That one is a fossil made in the late 1980's... But it does have 'DP" system or thrusters. So once its out to sea it can sail at maybe 3-5 knots to location to drill. And once its at drilling location, they either anchor if its shallow, or in deep water they dynamically position over the drill location during the duration of the well.

I worked on the Jim Day from the first well it ever drilled to the last one in 2016. That isnt the Jim day in the video. The Jim Day had 6 columns and blue NOV cranes. Its a cool video regardless, not tying to take anything away from that.

Is that one of the three they have dry docked on the aransas pass side? It's amazing how big those are and seeing them float by.

That’s a different rig. Jim day isn’t going anywhere soon. I work at the dock. It keeps good fish around here though lol
